Relay Athletic
Relay Athletic is a strength and conditioning platform where coaches write training programmes by voice or prompt, deliver them to athletes through a branded mobile app, and track logged loads, readiness and compliance in one place.
What is Relay Athletic?
Relay Athletic is a strength and conditioning platform built around the act of writing a training programme rather than storing one. It brings together three parts: a web workspace where coaches build and periodise blocks, a mobile app that delivers those sessions to athletes, and a marketplace where coaches can sell their programmes.
The centrepiece is an AI agent governed by what Relay calls the coaching brain. The coach writes down, once and in their own words, their principles, progression rules and the exercises they favour or avoid. Every draft the agent produces starts inside those rules and draws on the coach's own exercise library. A prompt such as an eight-week off-season block, four days a week, with a rotational power focus, returns a complete plan broken into named phases. Nothing reaches an athlete until the coach assigns it, and every set, rep and load stays editable. Voice input works the same way: a session spoken aloud comes back structured into the right block, and can be corrected in the same breath.
Around the builder sit the pieces a working coach needs. The exercise library ships with more than 1,200 movements, accepts unlimited custom ones, and can be filled in bulk from CSV or Excel with YouTube and Vimeo links intact; an autofill function writes tags, muscle groups, equipment and coaching notes. Programmes export to PDF and Excel under the coach's logo. Custom questionnaires capture readiness, wellness or pain alongside logged load. Testing hardware from VALD, Kinvent and Hawkin Dynamics feeds results onto the athlete profile.
On the athlete side, a white-labelled iOS and Android app carries the coach's branding and videos. Athletes log sets in a couple of taps, record RPE, comment on exercises, send video feedback and message their coach, with partial offline support. The app is free to them and their seat is included in the coach's plan.
Relay also publishes an MCP server, so a coach already working in Claude or ChatGPT can look up an athlete, write a session or progress a block without leaving the conversation. The interface is available in nine languages. The publisher claims more than 1,000 coaches, naming clubs and universities among its users.
What it does
- Write a full periodised training block from a plain-language description
- Dictate a session out loud and get it back structured into exercises, sets, reps and notes
- Assign one programme across a whole roster, each athlete on their own loads
- Rebuild an existing programme from a spreadsheet, a PDF or a photo of a whiteboard
- Collect readiness, wellness and pain reports through custom questionnaires
- Sell programmes from a branded storefront paid straight into the coach's own Stripe account
- Drive the account from Claude or ChatGPT through the Relay connector
When to use Relay Athletic / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Relay Athletic is the right fit.
When to use Relay Athletic
- Strength and conditioning coaches who write programmes daily and want out of spreadsheets
- College and university performance staff running periodised blocks across large squads
- Online and remote coaches managing rosters spread across different countries
- Private studios and rehabilitation clinics tracking readiness, pain reports and return to play
- Coaches who want to sell their programmes directly without paying a platform commission
When not to use Relay Athletic
- Athletes shopping for a training app: the athlete side is free and only opens through a coach's invitation
- Coaches looking for a plain library to store programmes they have already written elsewhere
- Practitioners working outside resistance training, which is the discipline the product is built around
- Anyone under 18, since the terms restrict account holders to adults
- Organisations that require a signed data processing agreement before purchase, as none is published
How to use Relay Athletic
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Sign up and start the seven-day trial, which needs no payment card
- Import your existing exercise library from CSV or Excel, keeping your YouTube and Vimeo links
- Write your coaching brain: principles, progression rules, preferred and avoided exercises
- Describe or dictate the block you want, or build it manually at the keyboard
- Split the programme into named phases with their own colour and week range
- Review and edit the draft, then approve it session by session
- Invite athletes with a link or code so the programme is waiting when they open the app
- Assign the programme to an athlete or a whole team with a start date
- Add questionnaires to collect readiness or pain alongside logged load
- Optionally connect Stripe to sell programmes, or add the MCP connector in Claude or ChatGPT
Pros & Cons

- Voice dictation and the agent remove most of the repetitive data entry
- Drafts stay inside the coach's own methodology and exercise library
- No Relay commission on marketplace sales, only Stripe's processing fees
- Athletes never pay, and can train from a browser if they prefer not to install the app
- Seven-day trial with full access and no payment card required
- Interface available in nine languages, with the database hosted in the EU
Cons
- No permanent free plan: a subscription is required once the trial ends
- Pricing is driven by seat count, so the bill grows with the roster
- Advanced analytics, hardware integrations and API export sit outside Relay Plus, on quotation only
- No data processing agreement is published or mentioned anywhere on the site
- The HIPAA claim on the homepage carries no certificate number, auditor or compliance page
- The European hosting message is qualified by the privacy policy, which places hosting and part of the AI processing in the United States

Pricing & Plans
There is no permanent free plan. Access begins with a seven-day free trial offering full features and requiring no payment card. Beyond the trial, the entry point is the Relay Plus tier for a single member at 9.99 USD per month, a member being one seat occupied by either a coach or an athlete. Prices rise by tier with the number of seats, up to 299.99 USD per month for 1,000 members. Paying annually is stated to give two months free. The Club & Academy offer is not publicly priced and is available on quotation only. Marketplace buyers are billed separately and do not count as members.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Relay Athletic handles your data.
GDPR overview
Implementation is concrete rather than declarative. The publisher is established in the European Union and names itself as controller with a full postal address. The privacy policy maps each processing purpose to an Article 6 legal basis: contract performance, legitimate interests, consent for optional cookies, and legal obligation. It lists the data subject rights under Articles 15 to 21 individually, gives an address to exercise them, and states the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Transfers outside the EU rely on Standard Contractual Clauses, and third-party processors are named with their jurisdiction. Encryption in transit and at rest is claimed. No data protection officer and no Article 27 representative are designated, which is consistent with an EU-based controller. No data processing agreement is published or referenced anywhere on the site.
Who owns the data?
The terms are explicit: the customer keeps full ownership of everything created in the service, including training programmes, workout templates and athlete data. Helia AI GmbH, the German company operating Relay, acts as controller for the data it processes and retains ownership only of the platform itself, its features and its original content. Responsibility for athlete records sits with the coach: the privacy policy states that coaches must have the appropriate consent or legal basis before sharing an athlete's details with Relay. Content sold through the marketplace remains the seller's, with the coach acting as merchant of record for subscriptions bought on their page.
Reuse rights
Because ownership stays with the coach, programmes, templates and athlete records can be reused, exported and taken elsewhere without asking permission. Any programme or single workout can be exported as PDF or Excel with the coach's own logo, and exercise libraries can be imported and re-exported in CSV or Excel form with YouTube and Vimeo links preserved. The publisher grants itself no licence to commercialise customer content. Relay states that it does not train AI models on customer data, and that the Google Gemini API it relies on does not use submitted content for model training. Athlete data may nonetheless be processed by named third parties for hosting, database, analytics and AI functions.

Hosting summary
The publisher is a German company and the service is governed by German law, with jurisdiction in Frankfurt am Main. The privacy policy names each processor and its location: Supabase in the European Union for the database and authentication, with data stated to be stored in the EU; Vercel in the United States for hosting and content delivery, where data may be processed under Standard Contractual Clauses; and Google Cloud or Gemini across both EU and US regions for AI features, again under Standard Contractual Clauses. PostHog is used for product analytics, and Google Ads and Meta Pixel for advertising measurement. Data is described as encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest, with access controls and regular security reviews. Note the gap between this and the marketing claim on the homepage, which states that athlete data is stored on European infrastructure: on the publisher's own account, only the database is confined to the EU.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Relay Athletic.
- The homepage names a company and a city that do not match the legal pages or the German commercial register: check who you are actually contracting with before signing
- The HIPAA claim carries no certificate number, no auditing body and no compliance page, so it should not be relied on for a regulated setting
- Marketing says athlete data is stored in Europe, while the privacy policy places hosting and part of the AI processing in the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses
- Coaches upload identifiable athlete health data, including pain reports, and the site makes them responsible for obtaining consent themselves
- No data processing agreement is published, which many clubs, schools and clinics require before onboarding
- Leaning on the AI to draft every block can erode a coach's own programming judgement over time, especially for less experienced staff
- Billing currency depends on the buyer's location and is locked by Stripe at first payment, so the published dollar prices may not be what a European coach pays
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low, with one caveat. No technical skill is required: the publisher claims five minutes from signup to a programme in an athlete's pocket, and athletes only need to install the app and enter an invite code. The genuinely time-consuming step is migrating an existing exercise library and past programmes, and the publisher offers hands-on help with exactly that. A setup call is available on request and full documentation is published. Adding the MCP connector to Claude or ChatGPT is described as a two-minute task requiring no API key.

Should you pick Relay Athletic?
Relay Athletic is an unusually focused product. Rather than competing on breadth, it picks one job — writing strength and conditioning programmes — and builds everything around it. The AI agent constrained by a coach's own rules, the voice dictation, and the one-click assignment across a roster all serve that single aim, and the surrounding pieces (exercise library, athlete app, questionnaires, hardware integrations) are the ones a working coach actually needs. The entry price is modest, the trial asks for no card, and the marketplace takes no commission, which makes it easy to evaluate on its own terms.
Three reservations deserve attention. First, the publisher's identity is inconsistent: the homepage names a company and a city that do not appear in the German commercial register, while the legal pages, the privacy policy and the App Store listing all name a different, verifiable entity. Second, the compliance claims are softer than they look. The HIPAA badge carries no certificate number, auditor or compliance page, and the promise that athlete data is stored in Europe is qualified by the site's own privacy policy, which places hosting and part of the AI processing in the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses. Only the database is stated to sit in the EU. Third, no data processing agreement is published, which may block adoption by clubs, schools and clinics that need one before signing.
The company is also very young, having been entered in the commercial register at the end of 2025, and the domain changed hands shortly before launch. None of this contradicts the product, which is coherent and clearly built by people who know the discipline. It does mean an organisation handling athlete health data should ask for the paperwork before committing.
