What is EarthDataInsight?

EarthDataInsight, shortened to EDI, is the geospatial platform built by Latitudo 40, an Earth Observation company based in Naples. It exists to turn satellite imagery into something a city technician or an underwriter can act on without being a remote sensing specialist: twelve ready-made environmental layers, computed continuously over any chosen area, and read through a browser.

The layer catalogue is the heart of the product. Land surface temperature is delivered at 10-metre resolution in degrees Celsius, and a second version supplies four measurements a day. Around it sit surface urban heat island, surface reflectivity (albedo), a heatwave risk index scored from 0 to 100 that combines hazard, population exposure and urban morphology, park cool islands ranked by their cooling effect, a microclimatic performance index for green infrastructure, carbon storage, tree cover density, tree height, building height and flood risk. The flood layer draws on Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, elevation models and ERA5 reanalysis.

Latitudo 40 describes a four-stage chain behind these outputs. Acquisition blends open data from ESA Copernicus and NASA with high-resolution imagery bought from Planet, Airbus and Satellogic, plus meteorological data and ground sensors. Processing applies machine learning and generative AI to fuse those sources, detect patterns and generate synthetic data — the publisher's flagship example being a super-resolution NDVI layer rendered at one metre from Sentinel-2 imagery natively captured at ten. Analysis produces risk identification and forecasting. Visualisation is offered three ways: an interactive web dashboard, API integration, and custom reports and charts.

Commercially the platform is sold as a subscription. A customer starts with a single layer and adds others during the term; the imagery period is freely chosen, historical archives included; nothing is installed. There is no published price and no self-service sign-up — every route leads to a quote request.

EDI is one of two live products. EarthDataPlace, a marketplace for satellite datasets, runs on its own domain, and two further products, LAURA and EnviroSensing, are announced as forthcoming. Named deployments include ENEA, Statistics Canada, Dinapsis in Benidorm and the Urban EVOLUTION pilots in Naples, Catania and Perugia.

GDPR overview

Latitudo 40 is an Italian company and therefore falls under the GDPR, but it never claims compliance in so many words, and never denies it either. The published privacy policy is an iubenda document last updated on 10 February 2026 and titled Privacy Policy of www.latitudo40.com: its scope is the marketing website, not the EarthDataInsight platform. Within that scope it lists the full set of data subject rights — withdrawal of consent, objection, access, rectification, restriction, erasure, portability and complaint to a supervisory authority — and names the third parties involved: Google, Webflow, Cloudflare, SiteGround and Microsoft. No data protection officer is designated, no Article 27 representative is needed since the publisher is established in the EU, and no minimum age is stated. Nothing is published about how platform users' data is handled.

Who owns the data?

No contractual document specific to EarthDataInsight is published. The only terms reachable from the product — found in the application bundle — are headed Terms and Conditions of app.earthdataplace.com and therefore govern Latitudo 40's other product, its data marketplace, not this platform.
