GDPR overview
The privacy policy, effective 21 August 2026, addresses the GDPR concretely rather than in general terms. It states that EU and UK users hold the rights afforded by GDPR and UK GDPR, including the right to complain to a local data protection authority, and that access, correction and deletion requests are handled by email at support@captionrich.com. International transfers are covered by providers offering appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. Section 3 names eight processors and the role of each, section 5 sets out retention, and the policy sets a minimum age of 13, or 16 in the EU. Three things are absent: no Article 27 EU representative is designated, no Data Processing Agreement is published or offered, and no security certification is claimed.
Who owns the data?
Users keep ownership of the videos and captions they create, and captionrich states it claims no rights over that content. Editing runs locally in the browser; only the extracted audio is sent to the transcription provider to generate captions, and it is discarded afterwards. When a project is saved to the cloud, the source video and its assets are stored in Cloudflare R2 under the user's account so the project can be reopened on another device. A saved project can be deleted at any time, and deleting the account removes all of them. Paid plans cover commercial use, so exports may be published for personal channels, brands or client work.
Reuse rights
Exports belong to the user and can be reused without asking permission: the terms grant ownership of the videos and captions produced, and every paid plan explicitly covers commercial use, including client projects, brand channels and paid advertising. Nothing in the published terms requires attribution, and no plan applies a watermark, so an exported MP4 can be posted as-is. On the vendor side, the stated uses are operational: authentication, loading and storing projects, enforcing plan quotas, processing subscriptions through Polar, sending transactional email, answering support requests, and measuring aggregate site usage. captionrich states it does not sell data, runs no advertising trackers, and does not use customer content for ad targeting.
