What is Hypergene?
Hypergene is a cloud platform from the Swedish software company Hypergene AB, based in Malmo, which brings financial planning and analysis together with project and portfolio management in one system. The company has been trading for more than twenty years, employs over 250 people across Sweden, Norway and Finland, and reports more than 600 customers across the Nordics in both the public and private sectors. It has been owned by Thoma Bravo since 2023.
The platform is sold as three packages. Hypergene Planning covers strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting, analysis, KPI tracking and performance reporting, and is aimed at the public sector, real estate companies and non-profits. Hypergene Profitbase is the finance platform for commercial organisations, adding consolidation, risk management, asset management, treasury management and custom Power BI visuals. Hypergene Portfolios serves PMOs and project managers with project, idea, risk and application portfolios plus a HUB that consolidates them.
Artificial intelligence appears in two distinct places. The AI Wizard is built into every portfolio: it runs AI search across portfolios, generates summaries of reports, meetings and insights, detects risks and deviations early, suggests next actions from goals and current context, and surfaces overlaps and synergies between projects. Separately, Hypergene Planning AI is an optional paid add-on to the Planning package, governed by its own service terms and billed partly on consumption. Both run on models supplied by Microsoft and hosted in Azure data centres inside the EU, and each user only ever sees data their permissions already allow.
Delivery is a managed cloud service reached through a web browser, with OpenID Connect authentication, TLS and RSA encryption at rest and in transit, backups every two hours and round-the-clock monitoring. Data is stored within the EU and EEA, and customers can contractually require that all processing take place exclusively in Sweden. There is no self-service route: buyers book a demo or request a quote, and the platform is then configured with industry-specific models by a delivery team of consultants, solution architects and project managers.

Pricing & Plans
There is no free plan and no free trial, and no price is published. The pricing page carries no figures at all: it presents the three packages and then a form headed Request a quote, inviting the visitor to submit contact details in order to receive tailored options and prices. Two contractual tiers exist and are named in the terms documentation, Enterprise and Essential, but neither carries a public rate. The service description states that charging reflects the number of users actually in place and which parts of the software are used. The optional Hypergene Planning AI add-on is billed as a basic fee invoiced in advance plus a consumption-based element invoiced in arrears against actual usage. Profitbase add-ons such as Salary Adjustment and Transparency Act are charged as extras. Because no entry-level figure is published, no starting price, currency or billing unit is recorded here rather than risk quoting a misleading number.

GDPR overview
GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly and backed by documents rather than assertions. Hypergene AB is named as controller for its website and acts as processor for customer data, with Data Processing Terms published as PDFs in English and Swedish for both the Enterprise and Essential tiers. Those terms name the Swedish supervisory authority (IMY), restrict transfers outside the EEA to adequacy decisions or the 2021/914 Standard Contractual Clauses, and list five approved sub-processors with their country and role. Personal data is deleted at the latest sixty days after the contract ends. The company holds an ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certificate issued in its own name (number 2713, Qvalify AB, valid to 30 April 2028). No Article 27 representative is designated, which is expected for a company established in Sweden. No minimum age is published.
Who owns the data?
The customer owns its data. Hypergene contracts as a processor under the GDPR while the customer remains controller, and the AI service terms state plainly that the customer owns its AI data, meaning both the input it submits and the output the AI returns. Hypergene grants itself only a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use, edit and modify that material, and only so far as delivering the contracted service requires. It may sub-license the same narrow rights to its named sub-contractors on identical terms. On termination the customer chooses: the database and all documentation are handed back, or everything is permanently deleted beyond recovery.
Reuse rights
Customers may use their own data and the AI output freely; nothing in the published terms restricts reuse, and export is provided through a REST interface returning CSV, NDJSON or JSON as well as Excel and CSV downloads from the interface. Two caveats are stated. First, AI output is not exclusive: Hypergene warns that the same or similar output may be generated for other customers, so it should not be treated as proprietary content. Second, output is supplied as-is, is described as preliminary and non-binding, and must be reviewed and approved by a person before any decision is taken; it is explicitly not professional or financial advice. On Hypergene's side, use is confined to delivering the service. Customer AI data is kept separate from other customers' data, is never used to train the models behind the feature, and is not stored by the third party supplying those models, which processes it only for the duration of the session.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Customer data is stored within the EU and EEA. The service description states this outright, and adds that customers may require all processing to take place exclusively in Sweden. The data centre is run by Videnca AB, a Swedish sub-processor certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 in its own right. Each customer environment has its own database instance. Communication and storage are encrypted using TLS and RSA, authentication runs on OpenID Connect, operations are monitored around the clock and data is backed up every two hours to an external system. The AI feature is hosted separately in a Microsoft Azure environment in EU data centres, with Microsoft named as the sub-processor that both supplies the model and hosts it. Five sub-processors are approved in total: three Swedish companies, one Finnish group company, and one Indian firm providing support and maintenance. Transfers outside the EEA require an adequacy decision or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Should you pick Hypergene?
Hypergene is an enterprise platform first and an AI product second, and it is honest about that order. The AI Wizard and the optional Hypergene Planning AI are assistance layers - search, summarisation, risk detection, prioritisation - laid over a mature planning and portfolio foundation built up over two decades. Buyers evaluating it as a standalone AI tool will misunderstand what they are looking at; buyers evaluating it as a Nordic FP&A and PPM suite that has added credible AI will find the fit much better.
What genuinely distinguishes it is the paper trail. Very few vendors publish their general terms, SLA, data processing terms, service descriptions and dedicated AI terms as open PDFs in two languages for both commercial tiers. Those documents carry commitments that marketing pages rarely make in writing: customer data is not used to train the models, it is kept separate from other customers' data, the model provider retains nothing beyond the session, personal data is deleted within sixty days of termination, and five sub-processors are named with their country and role. The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certificate is issued to Hypergene AB itself, with a number and an expiry date, not borrowed from a hosting provider.
The costs are equally clear. Pricing is entirely opaque, there is no trial and no free tier, and nothing can be assessed without engaging sales. The API exists but is undocumented in public. The market is realistically Nordic, and in Finland only the Portfolios package is sold. One detail deserves a second look: the data processing annex promises processing within the EEA while also listing an Indian sub-processor for support and maintenance. Worth raising before signing.
