Overview

What is PromptHero?

PromptHero is built around three pieces: a searchable library of AI image and video prompts, a multi-model generator, and a catalog of one-click tools. It went live in September 2022 - its founders say seven days after Stable Diffusion's public release - with the domain registered on 25 August 2022 and the first Wayback capture dated 1 September 2022. The site describes itself as the #1 website for prompt engineering.

The library is the entry point. Prompts are browsed through Featured, Hot, New, Top and Video feeds, or through pages dedicated to each generative model: Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, ChatGPT Image, Nano Banana, Veo, Sora, FLUX, Seedance, Seedream, Riverflow, Kling, Runway, Luma, DALL-E, Leonardo AI, Openjourney, Claude and Gemini. Theme pages cover photography, anime, fashion, architecture, 3D, cyberpunk, portraiture, product shots and more. A separate directory lists what the site reports as about 41.2k models and add-ons - checkpoints, LoRAs, textual inversions, ControlNets, hypernetworks, aesthetic gradients, VAEs, poses, wildcards and workflows. PromptHero also publishes its own Stable Diffusion fine-tune, Openjourney, on a dedicated site.

The generator sits behind an account and runs on credits. Around ninety one-click tools sit alongside it: headshots, logos, upscalers, background removal, colorization, text removal, face swap, product mockups, book and album covers, posters, tattoo and outfit generators, plus playful ones such as face raters and compatibility tests.

An Academy adds nine paid video courses covering prompt engineering, Midjourney, ComfyUI, fine-tuning, ControlNet and Deforum, consistent characters, branded content, YouTube and Zapier. Community mechanics sit on top: streaks, a member of the day, verified profiles and a PRO badge. iOS and Android apps are published, and the app page claims 1.5M+ creators worldwide.

The publisher is PromptHero Inc., incorporated in Delaware, with a company page on its second official domain. Every footer reads 'Built with love by ElevenYellow', and PromptHero appears in the ElevenYellow portfolio. An 'As seen in' strip points to the New York Times, Washington Post, Business Insider, ABC, Politico, TechCrunch and Fast Company, and a public status page is hosted on UptimeRobot.

When to use PromptHero / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if PromptHero is the right fit.

When to use PromptHero

  • Solo creatives and freelancers who need a visual quickly - a social post, a thumbnail, a poster, a product mockup - without a studio budget.
  • Small marketing teams that produce a steady stream of visuals and cannot brief an agency for each one.
  • Prompt writers hunting for a starting point that has already worked, searchable by model or by visual style.
  • Curious users who want to compare several generative models from a single interface, without installing ComfyUI or Automatic1111 locally.
  • Beginners learning prompt engineering, who can follow the nine paid Academy courses priced from $29 to $199.
  • Mobile-first creators who generate, browse and share from a phone through the iOS and Android apps.

When not to use PromptHero

  • Organizations that require a signed data processing agreement: no customer DPA is published or offered.
  • Developers planning a software integration: PromptHero publishes no public API documentation.
  • Anyone who needs generations to stay private on the free plan - on Free, and when using credits alone, all creations are public and can be indexed.
  • Regulated sectors that need data residency guarantees: hosting is declared in the United States and other countries, with no region choice.
  • Users under 13 (16 in the EEA), and families: both mobile apps are rated 18+.
  • Work where the authenticity of an image matters - journalism, evidence, documentation - and teams needing a self-hosted or on-premise deployment, which does not exist here.

How to use PromptHero

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Browse or search the prompt library straight away - no account is needed to look.
  2. Open a prompt to read its full text, the model that produced it, the author and the engagement counters.
  3. Use the reuse button to send that prompt to the generator with the text pre-filled.
  4. Sign in when prompted: an email magic link or a one-time code, or a Google sign-in - there is no password to choose.
  5. Pick a model and launch a generation; each run consumes credits from your plan or from a purchased pack.
  6. On Free, or on credits alone, expect public generations, stricter moderation and standard speed.
  7. On Starter or Pro, generations are unlisted, every model is available and requests go through a priority queue.
  8. For a result without writing a prompt, open the tools section, upload an image or type a short instruction, and run the tool in one click.
  9. Install the iOS or Android app to create, explore and share from a phone.
  10. Optionally take an Academy course to sharpen your prompt writing - nothing needs to be installed or configured at any stage.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The whole prompt library can be browsed without an account and without paying.
  • Model coverage is unusually broad and tracks new releases closely - Nano Banana, Veo, Sora, Seedream, FLUX.
  • The free plan is permanent rather than a countdown, and credits can be bought outright without any subscription; they roll over and never expire.
  • One-click tools remove the need to write a prompt at all, which lowers the entry barrier considerably.
  • Sign-in is passwordless (magic link or one-time code), so no password is stored, and the account can be deleted from both the app and the web.
  • Privacy practice is documented rather than implied: named subprocessors, a published collection table, and input images deleted within 24 hours without being tied to the account.
  • Native iOS and Android apps complement the web, and the Academy adds a teaching layer that few competitors offer.

Cons

  • On the free plan every creation is public; there is no private mode below Starter.
  • No public API documentation, so nothing can be wired into another product.
  • No published postal address and no contact page: everything goes through email addresses.
  • No customer DPA is published or announced as available on request, and no way to opt out of training is documented.
  • Interface and content are English-only, and no list of supported languages is published.
  • Pricing is hard to read: monthly rates without commitment are not exposed in the static HTML, and generation costs are expressed only in credits, with no per-model grid.
  • Community content is uneven and unverified, content restrictions are tighter on Free than on Pro, and account closures come with no appeal process.

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how PromptHero handles your data.

GDPR overview

The privacy policy, effective 20 April 2026, devotes section 12 to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and cites the GDPR by name. It states the legal bases relied on - contract performance, legitimate interests, consent and legal obligations - and lists the rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection to marketing and withdrawal of consent, along with the right to lodge a complaint with a local supervisory authority. Requests go to hello@prompthero.com, with a 30-day response commitment. International transfers to the United States and other countries are acknowledged, with standard contractual clauses invoked 'where required'. Two gaps remain: no Article 27 representative is designated for the EU, and no data protection officer is named. The company is incorporated in Delaware and its terms apply Delaware law. PromptHero never claims compliance outright; it publishes the machinery and leaves the reader to judge.

Who owns the data?

PromptHero's terms leave you as the author of your prompts, uploads and generated images, but the terms of service published in the FAQ grant PromptHero a perpetual license to broadcast, display, distribute, sell and produce derivatives from your contributions, including on other platforms such as Slack, Discord, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube. Anything you mark public - prompts, images, and your profile handle, avatar, prompt count and streak - is visible to other users and may appear in search engines. Unlisted, private generations are reserved for the Starter and Pro plans. Accounts can be deleted from the mobile app (Settings > Account > Delete Account) or from the account settings page on the web.

Reuse rights

PromptHero lists the purposes it processes data for: running the service, handling payments and credits, transactional emails, personalization, moderation, usage analytics, fraud prevention, marketing emails you can unsubscribe from, and aggregate activity displays. When you generate, your text prompts and any input images are transmitted to third-party model providers, currently Replicate, Inc. and Together AI, Inc. Moderation runs through AWS Rekognition, OpenAI's moderation API and keyword filtering. The named subprocessors are Stripe (payments), Brevo (email), AWS (infrastructure, storage, moderation) and Render (application hosting); analytics rely on Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager on the web, and Mixpanel on mobile. The company states that it does not sell personal information, performs no face recognition or faceprinting, and does not use images containing faces to train its own models. Input images are deleted within 24 hours and are not attached to the account. Beyond that single carve-out on faces, no general commitment against training on user content is published and no opt-out is documented. Public prompts are community contributions: the site itself advises checking whether a prompt can legally be reused elsewhere.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Under the privacy policy effective 20 April 2026, account data is kept for as long as the account is active, and so is private content. Prompts and images marked public are kept indefinitely. Images uploaded as generation inputs are a special case: they are deleted within 24 hours and are not attached to the account. If you delete your account, PromptHero says it will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where it must retain it for legal, compliance or legitimate business purposes. Moderation records are among what survives that deletion. Anything you made public may also persist outside PromptHero's control, in search engine caches and third-party archives, long after the account is gone.

Hosting summary

PromptHero does not run its own infrastructure. Amazon Web Services provides cloud infrastructure, image storage and automated moderation through Rekognition, and Render hosts the application; Stripe handles payments and is announced as PCI DSS compliant. The privacy policy, effective 20 April 2026, states that information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where its service providers operate, and invokes standard contractual clauses 'where required' rather than as a systematic safeguard. Prompts and input images submitted for generation also travel to third-party model providers, currently Replicate and Together AI. The site is served behind Cloudflare, resolving to the anycast address 104.26.1.223, and traffic is encrypted in transit over TLS. Two things are not offered: users cannot choose a hosting region, and no security certification - SOC 2, ISO 27001 or equivalent - is mentioned anywhere. In practice, treat the United States as the effective jurisdiction, with additional processing wherever the named providers operate.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting PromptHero.

  • The terms grant PromptHero a perpetual and very broad license over your contributions, including producing derivatives and distributing them on other platforms.
  • On Free, and on credits alone, everything you make is public and indexable - assume no confidentiality for client work or personal photographs.
  • Moderation is strict and final: an account can be closed immediately and permanently over content referencing minors, with no appeal process.
  • The contract bites in several places: a $300 fine per spam or self-promotion message, liability capped at the greater of $100 or the last 12 months of fees, automatic refund only if the last payment is under 7 days old, and cancellation required 24 hours before renewal.
  • Every generation sends your prompt and any input image to third-party providers (Replicate, Together AI), and no training opt-out is documented.
  • Both apps are rated 18+ and generated content can be mature; credits, streaks and a member-of-the-day board also reward coming back daily, which is worth watching if you are prone to compulsive use.
  • Community prompts are unverified: the site itself warns that you should check whether a prompt can legally be used elsewhere, and leaning on the library can quietly replace developing your own prompting judgment.
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Very low. On the web there is nothing to install: a browser is enough, and the library can be read before signing up at all. Registration is passwordless - an email magic link or a one-time code, or a Google sign-in. The mobile apps are ordinary App Store and Google Play downloads. There is no API key, no technical configuration and no integration to wire up; one-click tools need only an uploaded image or a short instruction. The only real learning curve is writing good prompts, and the library and the Academy exist precisely to shorten it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to browse prompts?
No. The library is fully browsable without signing up. An account is only required to generate images or videos.
Is there a permanent free plan?
Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and includes a limited number of daily generations, at standard speed and low priority. Everything created on it is public.
Can I buy credits without a subscription, and do they expire?
Yes: 1,000 credits for $59 or 2,000 credits for $99. Credits roll over and never expire. Generations made on credits alone remain public and moderation is stricter.
Which generative models does PromptHero cover?
Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, FLUX, Sora, Veo, Nano Banana, Seedance, Seedream, ChatGPT Image, DALL-E, Leonardo, Kling, Runway, Luma and Openjourney, alongside a directory of roughly 41.2k models and add-ons.
Are my generations private?
Only on Starter and Pro, where generations are unlisted. On Free, and when using credits alone, they are public and may be indexed by search engines.
Is there an API?
No public API documentation is published. The terms of service mention an obligation to link back when using their APIs, but no documentation page exists on the site.
Is there a mobile app, and is there a minimum age?
Yes, iOS and Android apps are published, and both are rated 18+ on their respective stores. The service itself is not intended for anyone under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area.
Is my data used to train AI models?
The site states only that images containing faces are not used to train its own models. No general commitment is published, and no training opt-out is documented.
Where is my data hosted, and how do I delete my account?
AWS handles storage and infrastructure, Render hosts the application, and transfers to the United States and other countries are acknowledged. An account can be deleted in the app (Settings > Account > Delete Account) or from the account settings page on the web; deletion or anonymization follows within 30 days.
How do I contact PromptHero?
hi@prompthero.com for general enquiries, hello@prompthero.com for personal data and GDPR requests, and contact@prompthero.com for Academy for Teams.
Conclusion

Should you pick PromptHero?

PromptHero is strongest where most generative tools are weakest: discovery. Millions of community prompts, pages for every current model and a directory of roughly 41.2k models and add-ons can be browsed at no cost and without an account, which makes the site useful even to people who never generate anything on it. The ninety or so one-click tools answer the opposite need - a result without writing a prompt at all - and the mobile apps put both within reach of a phone.

The trade-offs are clear enough to decide on. On the free plan, and when using credit packs alone, every creation is public and indexable; privacy starts at $16 per month billed annually. There is no public API documentation, no published data processing agreement and no postal address, so anyone with procurement or integration requirements will run out of road quickly. The terms of service also grant PromptHero a perpetual license over contributions, which deserves a careful read before uploading anything sensitive or commercially valuable.

Read as what it is, the arbitration is straightforward: PromptHero is a consumer-facing creation and inspiration tool, not an enterprise building block. Solo creatives, freelancers and small marketing teams cover a lot of ground for a modest price, with an unusual teaching layer in the Academy. Larger organizations carrying legal, residency or integration obligations will find the documentation thin.

The product is not standing still. It has belonged to ElevenYellow since late 2024, and development has continued since - mobile apps, and support for the 2026 crop of models.
