What is Sloyd?
Sloyd is a browser-based 3D creation platform built by an Oslo team, and its history explains its shape. The company started with a parametric geometry kernel of its own, written to produce clean, optimised, game-ready meshes long before text-to-3D became a mainstream topic. Generative AI came later, in late 2024, once it was clear that a purely parametric workflow could not cover open-ended ideation. Both approaches now sit in the same product: the parametric side for precision and repeatability, the generative side for exploration.
That gives three ways in. You can describe an object in plain language and get a model back, upload a photograph, sketch or render and have it turned into a textured asset, or start from one of several hundred handcrafted templates and shape it with sliders and toggles. A fourth path, the AI image apps, generates or edits pictures first so they can be fed into 3D generation afterwards.
The commercial argument Sloyd repeats most is unlimited generation on paid plans: the core workflows are not metered by credits, so iteration never stops to count tokens. What separates Sloyd from a novelty generator is how much technical control it exposes. A separate public API, billed in prepaid credits, lets other products embed the same generation pipeline. GDPR overview
Implementation is concrete rather than declarative. The privacy policy, effective 23 April 2025, is built on Regulation (EU) 2016/679 together with Norwegian data protection law, and names Sloyd AS, organisation number 927 129 043, as data controller. Legal bases are stated case by case: contract for private customers, legitimate interest for business contacts, accounting obligations for payment records, and consent for marketing. Seven data subject rights are enumerated, including erasure, restriction, objection and portability. Transfers outside the EU/EEA without an adequacy decision rely on EU standard contractual clauses, and the policy links to the EDPB for complaints. Contact runs through privacy@sloyd.ai. No Article 27 representative and no DPO is named, which is consistent with a controller established inside the EEA.
Who owns the data?
Under the Terms of Use, users receive a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to use the models they export inside their own creations. The paid Plus and Pro plans add a commercial licence with no royalties, and the pricing FAQ states plainly that subscribers own what they generate; the free Guest tier carries a personal-use licence only. Redistribution and marketplace reselling remain a Pro-only right, although a freelancer may deliver Sloyd-based content directly to a client. For personal data, the privacy policy names Sloyd AS as data controller. Uploading reference images that contain third-party copyrighted material is prohibited.
Reuse rights
Exported models can be reused without asking further permission, within the licence attached to the plan. Alterations are expressly allowed: retexturing, applying shaders, and adding or removing parts of a model. Commercial use is permitted on Plus and Pro, while the Guest tier is restricted to personal use. Two reuses stay fenced off. Commercial 3D printing requires a custom licence negotiated with support, and redistribution or marketplace reselling is reserved for Pro subscribers, though direct delivery to a client remains open to freelancers. Using generated models to train AI systems is marked as not allowed on Guest and Plus, and requires contacting the vendor on Pro.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Sloyd publishes very little about where data physically lives. No hosting country, no region and no data centre provider is named anywhere on the site, and there is no trust or security page. What the privacy policy does establish is the jurisdictional frame: Sloyd AS acts as data controller under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and Norwegian data protection law, which places the controller inside the EEA. The policy also confirms that data can leave the EU/EEA, stating that transfers to countries without an adequacy decision rely on EU standard contractual clauses, an acknowledgement of extra-EEA processing with no indication of destination. Third-party IT providers act as data processors and are covered by data processing agreements, but none is named. Payment data is handled by an authorised third-party processor, and Sloyd states that it stores no financial information itself. The domain resolves to an Amazon anycast address, which identifies a CDN edge node and says nothing about where user content is stored. Anyone with a data residency requirement will need to ask directly.

- Uploading a reference image you do not own is prohibited, and responsibility for that check sits entirely with the user
- The vendor's identity differs between the Terms and the privacy policy, which makes it harder to know who you are contracting with and where a claim would be pursued
