Overview

What is Aiforsite?

Aiforsite is a construction productivity platform built by Aiforsite Oy, a Finnish company founded in 2016 and headquartered in Espoo, with a UK subsidiary, Aiforsite UK Ltd, opened in London in spring 2022. Close to 30 people work on it, drawn from construction, artificial intelligence, product and software development, and the company reports more than 100 delivered projects across Finland, Norway, Denmark, India, Malaysia and the United Kingdom. The offer is packaged as AIC — Artificial Intelligence for Construction — and has three layers. Wendy AI is the AI component, and the two should not be confused: Aiforsite is the platform and the company, Wendy AI the assistant. It works in the background, turning project data into alerts, reports, summaries and recommendations, and presents them in a web app with an enterprise level and a project level. It won The Most Innovative Digital Project Delivery category at the WDBE 2024 Awards in Tallinn on 4 October 2024. Underneath sit five Smart Products. The Real-Time Location System measures productive time and the root causes of lost time, the metric the company calls tool-time. 360 Reality Capture records walk-through video on site, extracts stills every one to two seconds and serves them in a web viewer where observations are raised and tasks assigned. Site Cameras cover safety, tidiness, material availability and attendance, indoors and out. Condition Monitoring uses wireless sensors for concrete strength and drying, temperature, humidity and air pollution. Drone Reality Capture adds aerial documentation for setting out, logistics, inspections and measurement. Wendy AI also draws on third-party data APIs and the customer's own planning, logistics, quality, cost and HSE applications. Around the software sits a method rather than a licence: lean principles, a weekly Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle and an on-site Productivity Engineer service. The stated premise is blunt — up to 60% of the hours worked on a construction site are said to be wasted time. Case studies name Mace Group and Fortum, and the partner network includes Exigo in Denmark, Marstrand in Norway, Intekno in Turkey and Visilean in India.

What it does

  • Measure productive working time task by task and production area by production area
  • Compare planned hours against actual hours and catch schedule drift early
  • Receive alerts, summaries and recommendations without having to ask for them
  • Track subcontractor performance zone by zone and task by task
  • Document the site in 360-degree video, drone imagery and fixed camera feeds
  • Monitor site conditions automatically: concrete strength and drying, temperature, humidity and air pollution

When to use Aiforsite / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Aiforsite is the right fit.

When to use Aiforsite

  • Main contractors and site management teams that want to measure productivity as it actually happens rather than as it is reported
  • Projects where planned-versus-actual tracking of subcontractor hours carries contractual weight
  • UK sites working under the Building Safety Act and Part L, where a traceable Golden Thread of evidence is expected
  • Organisations willing to deploy hardware on site: wireless sensors, fixed cameras and location beacons
  • Large enterprise clients moving from a single pilot site to a whole portfolio, for whom the three user training workshops and the three-phase Productivity Roadmap are standard parts of the offer

When not to use Aiforsite

  • Consumers and private individuals: the terms state that the mobile app is not for consumer use, and the service is limited to users aged 18 and over
  • Teams looking for self-service sign-up: the entry point is a sales demonstration, and only one of the five modules carries a public price
  • Field crews expecting to work from a tablet or a phone: the 360 web application is designed for a computer
  • iPhone-only sites: 360 capture requires an Insta360 X2-X5 camera and a recent Android smartphone, with no documented iOS route
  • Organisations that want to wire the tool into an existing information system themselves: no public API documentation is available
Get started

How to use Aiforsite

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Request a demonstration or book a meeting: there is no self-service sign-up
  2. Take the 30-minute demonstration with an Aiforsite expert
  3. Agree the scope and have the hardware installed on site for the modules you select: sensors, cameras and beacons
  4. Create an account and open the built-in Demo Project to explore the interface before recording anything of your own
  5. For 360 Reality Capture, download the Android application and connect an Insta360 X2-X5 camera
  6. Walk the site filming in 360 degrees, then transfer and upload the footage; the system extracts stills every one to two seconds
  7. Review, annotate and assign tasks in the web viewer, which is designed for a desktop or laptop rather than a tablet or phone
  8. Put the team through the three user training workshops, a standard part of the enterprise offer, with separate training for executives
  9. Set up account administration: named accounts, enforced strong passwords, optional two-factor authentication and login logging
  10. Run the weekly Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle around the productivity report, optionally with an Aiforsite Productivity Engineer handling deployment, collection and reporting

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • One published figure on a market where almost nobody publishes: 169 EUR per month plus VAT for the 360 Reality Capture module
  • A complete chain in one place: sensors and cameras, platform, AI, plus training and hands-on support services
  • Detailed contractual documentation, with data processing clauses built into the customer contract and explicit GDPR roles
  • Automatic blurring of people, a real compliance argument on a site where third parties come and go
  • Hosting with AWS and Microsoft Azure, with the option of placing the stored data in the European Union
  • Checkable references: Mace Group, Fortum and the WDBE 2024 award
  • A Demo Project included on account creation, and a European publisher under Finnish law with an EU head office and local partners in several countries

Cons

  • One public price across five modules: nothing is published for Wendy AI, the location system, the cameras or the sensors
  • No dedicated pricing page — the figure sits inside a product section and in clause 9 of the terms
  • The contract provides for training the AI on raw site data, with no documented way to opt out
  • No named list of subprocessors: the schedule identifies categories only
  • Third-party hardware is compulsory for 360 capture (Insta360 X2-X5 camera, recent Android smartphone), and no App Store link is published even though the terms name Apple
  • No public API documentation, and no free trial or free plan announced
  • Uneven publication housekeeping: a privacy policy citing the repealed Directive 95/46/EC and Safe Harbour, a missing robots.txt, part of the links pointing to aiforsite.com, and no documented interface languages

Pricing & Plans

There is no free plan and no free trial. A single price is published, and it covers one module only: 360 Reality Capture, sold as the Pro Plan at 169 EUR per month excluding VAT — the same tier the terms and conditions name Standard, at the same figure. It includes 240 minutes of video upload per month and 10 users per project; additional upload is charged at 25 EUR per 100 minutes, within a project ceiling of 7,200 minutes. Invoicing is in advance on 14-day payment terms, by card or bank transfer, with contractual late interest of 10% per year, and prices may be amended on 10 days' written notice. No price is published for Wendy AI, the Real-Time Location System, Site Cameras, Condition Monitoring or Drone Reality Capture, nor for the platform as a whole: those are quoted. The 30-minute demonstration is free of charge.

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Aiforsite handles your data.

GDPR overview

Concrete mentions exist. The Data Security page states that data protection standards such as the GDPR are taken into account in data management, service contracts and at the construction site, and the terms define both the EU GDPR 2016/679 and the UK GDPR. Roles are set out: the Customer is controller, Aiforsite processor, with data processing clauses built into the customer contract at section 12 and Schedule 2. Informing data subjects and handling rights requests fall to the Customer, which is advised to consider a DPIA (Article 35) and document its approach (Article 24); templates for site signage and contract clauses are supplied. Transfers outside the EU/EEA rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. No Article 27 representative applies, the publisher being established in Finland. One weak point: the website privacy policy, version 1.0 and undated, still cites Directive 95/46/EC and Safe Harbour.

Who owns the data?

The terms leave ownership where it starts: no intellectual property rights are transferred in either direction. The Customer grants Aiforsite a non-exclusive licence to copy, reproduce, store, distribute, publish, export, adapt, edit and translate Customer Data, but only as far as reasonably required to perform the agreement. Customer Data covers whatever is uploaded, transmitted, supplied or generated by the platform, excluding usage analytics and server logs. Under the GDPR the Customer is the controller of site data and Aiforsite the processor; for the website itself, Aiforsite declares itself controller. At the latest when the contract ends, customer data is removed from the platform and its cloud environments and returned to the Customer.

Reuse rights

Nothing in the terms stops the Customer from reusing its own data: no intellectual property rights change hands, and the data is returned when the contract ends. Site data — production, attendance, 360 imagery, environmental conditions — is processed on the Customer's behalf. On Aiforsite's side the terms go further than pure service delivery: raw data collected on site may be used as training material for the AI, the stated example being the automatic people-blurring feature, and where raw data is not needed for development, anonymised or pseudonymised data is used instead. People are automatically blurred in stored images and videos, although the data processing schedule describes face blurring as a chargeable option. Data subjects on site include workers, subcontractors, supervisors and visitors. Website data feeds analytics, direct marketing and enquiry handling, with Google Analytics truncating the IP address before transfer, and the privacy policy states that personal data is neither sold nor rented.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
At the latest when the contract ends, Aiforsite removes all customer data from the Productivity Platform and from the cloud environments where it is stored, and returns it to the customer as agreed. Beyond that, the website privacy policy commits only to keeping personal data as long as lawful use, applicable policies and the law require or permit, without stating a fixed period. One concrete figure is published: the texts of online customer service conversations are usually kept for up to 30 days. Where a user profile is changed, a copy of the previous data may be retained for legal purposes. No retention period is published for site data itself — 360 imagery, location records, condition readings — so how long that material is kept before deletion has to be agreed contractually.

Hosting summary

Aiforsite names two hosting providers: Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Using these cloud providers, the company says, gives it the ability to define the geographical location of the stored data, "for example in the European Union". That is presented as a possibility the providers make available rather than as a contractual default, and no hosting country is named explicitly for customer data. Where personal data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, the terms rely on the standard contractual clauses adopted and published by the European Commission as the transfer mechanism. Subprocessors are described by category, including public cloud providers, and no named list is published. For the website itself, the privacy policy states that Google Analytics data is sent to a Google server in the United States, the last octet of the IP address being truncated before transfer. The jurisdiction governing the contract is Finnish, and the publisher's head office is in the European Union.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Aiforsite.

  • Raw site data may be used as training material for the AI, and no opt-out mechanism is documented: a point to settle before signing, not after
  • Continuous measurement of people at work carries a surveillance risk — workers, subcontractors, supervisors and visitors are located and filmed, and tool-time figures read carelessly become a verdict on individuals instead of a diagnosis of the process
  • Automatic blurring is presented as automatic on the Data Security page, but the data processing schedule describes face blurring as a chargeable option
  • The site contradicts itself twice: two head office addresses (Keilaranta 1 in the terms, Linnoitustie 4 A on the contacts page) and two minimum ages (18 for the service in the terms, 14 for browsing in the privacy policy)
  • The website privacy policy is version 1.0, carries no effective date and still cites Directive 95/46/EC and Safe Harbour, both repealed
  • EU data location is presented as a possibility offered by the cloud providers rather than a contractual commitment by default, and no named subprocessor list is published — only categories
  • Commercial terms worth reading closely: prices amendable on 10 days' written notice, contractual late interest of 10% per year, and immediate termination on non-payment
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Demanding by SaaS standards, much of it physical. Sensors, cameras and beacons are installed on the site itself. 360 capture requires an Insta360 X2-X5 camera plus an Android 11 or newer phone (6 GB+ RAM, 128 GB+ storage, under two years old), and the web application is meant for a computer, not a tablet or phone. Users go through three training workshops, executives a separate session. Administration means named accounts, strong passwords, optional two-factor authentication and logging; subcontractor contracts and on-site signage need adjusting too. The Demo Project lets you look around first, with no hardware.

The customer is the controller and Aiforsite the processor for site data. At the latest when the contract ends, the data is removed from the platform and its cloud environments and returned to the customer.
Is there a minimum age?
The terms set 18 for use of the service. The website privacy policy states 14 for simply browsing the site.
Is there a public API?
The terms define an API for the Hosted Services, but no public documentation for it is online.
Conclusion

Should you pick Aiforsite?

Aiforsite occupies a deliberate niche: the productivity of direct labour on site, not general document management. A company founded in 2016, around 30 people, more than 100 delivered projects, checkable references at Mace Group and Fortum and a 2024 industry award give it a maturity many construction-tech tools lack, and the contractual side is unusually solid — data processing clauses built into the customer contract, explicit GDPR roles, Finnish law. Two things deserve weighing. The terms provide for raw site data to be used as training material for the AI, with a fallback to anonymised or pseudonymised data but no documented way to opt out; on a site where workers, subcontractors and visitors are filmed and located, that belongs in the customer's own impact assessment rather than in the small print. And pricing is opaque: only 360 Reality Capture carries a public figure, at 169 EUR per month plus VAT, while Wendy AI, the location system, the cameras and the sensors are all quoted case by case. The last point is commitment. This is not software you try on your own. Hardware is installed on the site, the team goes through three training workshops, subcontractor contracts may need productivity measurement clauses, and the method assumes a weekly Plan-Do-Check-Act rhythm, optionally run by an Aiforsite Productivity Engineer. Where an organisation is genuinely ready to change how it measures site work, the offer is coherent from sensor to report. Where the ambition stops at buying a dashboard, the fit will be poor — and with no free trial, the first real test comes after the commercial process rather than before it.
