Audionotes is a voice-first AI note-taker published by 1811 Labs, a consumer AI product studio run by Vatsal Sanghvi, which started building the app in May 2023 in the wake of OpenAI's Whisper release. It accepts five kinds of input, namely a live microphone recording, an uploaded audio or video file, an image, a typed note or a YouTube URL, and returns a finished note: transcript, summary, generated title and clean formatting, with no manual editing required.
The transcription layer is deliberately multi-model. Recordings are routed across OpenAI Whisper v3, Assembly AI Universal and Slam-1, Deepgram Nova 2 and Google Gemini 2.5 Pro, the engine being chosen according to the language and the audio profile, while summarisation, title generation and AI-assisted editing draw on GPT-4-class models from OpenAI and on Google Gemini. The tool advertises 99+ languages with automatic per-segment detection, a manual override and speaker diarisation switched on by default, each voice labelled and renamable. Claimed accuracy reaches 95% on clear single-speaker audio and 85 to 92% on second-tier languages, and a published table grades every supported language into four word-error-rate bands.
What separates the product from plain transcription is the output layer. More than 100 ready-made prompts, custom templates and imported ChatGPT prompts turn the same recording into meeting minutes, lecture notes with quizzes and flashcards, a journal entry, structured medical notes, a blog draft or an email, and you can chat with a note to interrogate its content. GDPR overview
Audionotes never states in so many words that it is GDPR compliant. What the privacy policy does offer is an explicit list of rights available "depending on your location (e.g., under GDPR, CCPA, or other data protection laws)": access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection and withdrawal of consent, all exercised by writing to hello@audionotes.app. Beyond that list the framework is thin. No EU representative is designated under Article 27, no data protection officer is named, no data processing agreement is offered to customers, and no retention period is expressed in days or months. The policy is governed by Indian law with exclusive jurisdiction in Bengaluru, and transfers to India, the United States and the EU are announced with "adequate safeguards" that are never described. The document is dated 15 September 2025.
Who owns the data?
Under the Terms of Service you remain solely responsible for the audio, notes and files you submit, and the FAQ states plainly that you retain full ownership of your content. By uploading it, you grant 1811 Labs a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, process and display that content, but only as far as is necessary to provide and improve the service. The platform itself, meaning the software, code, design and the AI models behind the summaries, remains the property of Audionotes, 1811 Labs and its licensors. You can delete your account and every piece of data attached to it at any time from the Account Centre.
Reuse rights
The notes, transcripts and summaries you generate are yours to reuse without asking permission: nothing in the Terms restricts what you do with your own output, and the product is built around getting it out again, through exports to TXT, DOC, PDF, SRT and HTML, published and shared notes, and automatic delivery into Notion, Zapier, WhatsApp or a webhook endpoint of your own. One clause deserves a second look, and it concerns the tool rather than the content: the licence granted to you over the service is described as limited to personal, non-commercial purposes, which sits awkwardly beside the professional use cases the site itself promotes. Your ownership of your material is unaffected, but the permitted scope of use is narrower on paper than in the marketing.

The privacy policy is brief on this point. It states that data may be stored and processed in countries outside the user's own jurisdiction, naming India, the United States and the EU, and adds that such transfers include "adequate safeguards" without ever describing them: no standard contractual clauses, no adequacy mechanism, no named data centre, cloud region or hosting provider. What is named is the processing chain: OpenAI and Google Gemini for transcription and summarisation, Deepgram and Assembly AI for speech-to-text, plus unnamed analytics, hosting and cloud providers. Content is described as encrypted both in transit and at rest. One technical observation worth noting is that the domain resolves to an anycast CDN node on Amazon infrastructure, which says nothing about where the data itself is stored. In practice, a European user should assume processing in India and the United States, without contractual detail on the safeguards applied.

Very low for everyday use. There is nothing to install on a server and nothing to configure: create an account, then record on the web or in the mobile app, with no card required for the free plan. Five input types, a multi-model transcription pipeline and an output layer of more than a hundred prompts make it genuinely more than a transcription app, and the free plan is generous enough to judge the product before paying anything. Students, meeting-heavy professionals, clinicians writing up notes and creators who think out loud are all served by a use case the site has actually built for, not merely claimed.
Its privacy posture is also above the segment average. Training opt-out has been obtained from every provider and applies to every plan, the AI subprocessors are named one by one in the privacy policy, and content is encrypted in transit and at rest. Few tools in this category are that specific.
The governance around it is where the product falls short. There is no postal address anywhere on the site, no explicit GDPR compliance claim, no Article 27 representative, no customer data processing agreement and no retention period expressed as a figure. In short, a capable and unusually candid tool for individuals and small teams, and a harder sell to any organisation whose procurement checklist starts with a legal entity and a signed DPA.
