CareConnect AI Assistant
An AI medical scribe built into the CareConnect GP practice software, which listens to a general practitioner's consultation, transcribes it in real time and turns it into a structured SOAP-style consultation note the doctor reviews before saving.
What is CareConnect AI Assistant?
CareConnect AI Assistant is an AI medical scribe for general practitioners, published by the Belgian medical software company Corilus and built directly into its CareConnect GP electronic patient record. It is not a separate application: there is nothing extra to install, and the assistant cannot be used outside that software.
The vendor describes three steps. First, transcription: the doctor starts the consultation and presses record, and the assistant listens for the whole conversation, converting speech to written notes in real time. Second, interpretation: the conversation is turned into structured notes following the SOAP method, keeping only the clinically relevant content while identifiable details are automatically removed. Third, review: the note is placed in the consultation report inside CareConnect GP, where the doctor can add context, change anything, and then save it to the patient record. Nothing is written to the record without that approval, and the doctor chooses on each individual consultation whether to use the assistant at all.
Under the hood the assistant uses large language models, and Corilus is explicit that it does not run on ChatGPT but on a medically specialised AI partner. That partner is named: Cavell handles the audio-to-text conversion as a subprocessor, and appears in the published subprocessor list for CareConnect General Practitioner. Processing is not local. The recording is sent to a secure external server within the EU under a zero data retention policy, and the raw audio is deleted immediately once converted. Generating the final note takes roughly five to twenty seconds after the consultation, while speech-to-text itself is close to instant.
The limits are stated as clearly as the features. It is not a medical device and is not meant for diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, prognosis or treatment. It handles one language per recording, Dutch or French only, with no automatic translation, and only one recording can be active at a time. It ignores non-verbal signals such as silences or emotion, and can struggle when several patients speak in the same conversation. An internet connection is required throughout. An external multidirectional microphone is strongly recommended, and Corilus ships one free of charge in a starter kit. Announced future work includes automatic summarising of documents, generated patient letters and a personal terminology dictionary.
What it does
- Transcribes the spoken consultation into text in real time
- Structures the transcript into a SOAP-style consultation note
- Strips identifiable details out of the generated notes
- Places the draft note into the CareConnect GP consultation report for review
- Automatically codes an assessment when one is recognised during the conversation
- Distinguishes the doctor from the patient, and from an accompanying person
- Deletes the raw audio as soon as it has been converted
When to use CareConnect AI Assistant / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if CareConnect AI Assistant is the right fit.
When to use CareConnect AI Assistant
- Belgian general practitioners already working in CareConnect GP who spend too much of the consultation typing
- Solo and group practices that want shorter, better-documented consultations without hiring a scribe
- Doctors who want to keep eye contact with the patient instead of facing a screen
- Practices with strict privacy expectations, where audio must never be stored and never feed model training
- Practice managers looking for a documentation gain that requires no new software to install
When not to use CareConnect AI Assistant
- Patients: the assistant is a tool for the clinician, never a service addressed to the person being treated
- Any practitioner not using CareConnect GP, since the assistant only exists inside that software
- Clinicians needing a diagnostic aid: the vendor states it is not a medical device
- Consultations held in any language other than Dutch or French
- Practices wanting on-premise or offline processing, or the ability to replay a recording afterwards
How to use CareConnect AI Assistant
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Make sure the practice already runs CareConnect GP, which the assistant requires
- Order the free starter kit containing a microphone and a patient information mat, or reuse an existing external multidirectional microphone
- Avoid the built-in laptop microphone and any unidirectional model, because transcription quality drops sharply
- Activate the feature inside CareConnect GP, following the dedicated support article
- Optionally follow the onboarding webinar and the step-by-step manual before the first live consultation
- Inform the patient before the assistant is used with them for the first time, using the information document Corilus provides
- Start the consultation and press record; the assistant listens for the whole conversation
- Let the note be generated, which takes about five to twenty seconds once the consultation ends
- Read the draft note, correct anything the model misheard, add context, then save it to the patient record
- Optionally rate the transcription quality afterwards, directly in CareConnect GP
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Fully native inside CareConnect GP, with no extra tool, no extra login and nothing to install
- Audio is never kept: it is deleted as soon as it is converted, under a zero data retention policy
- Consultation data is never used to train the model, which is trained on dummy and test data only
- Processing takes place within the EU, with a published subprocessor list and a downloadable DPA
- The doctor keeps final control, reviewing and correcting every note before it reaches the record
- Fifty consultations a month are included at no extra cost in an existing CareConnect GP licence, and the microphone starter kit is free
- Onboarding is well supported, with a webinar, a step-by-step manual, an extensive FAQ and a patient information document
Cons
- Completely locked to CareConnect GP: without that software the assistant simply does not exist
- Effectively limited to Belgium, since it follows Belgian practice software, Belgian legal framing and Dutch or French only
- No offline mode at all, as a permanent internet connection is required
- Processing is not local: the audio leaves the practice for an external server, even if it is deleted straight away
- One language per recording and no automatic translation, so consultations with patients speaking another language run more slowly
- Neither recording nor transcript is kept, so a note can never be checked back against what was actually said
- The real entry price is not public, because access depends on a CareConnect GP licence that is quoted separately
Pricing & Plans
There is no permanently free plan. Access to CareConnect AI Assistant is included by default in the cost of an existing CareConnect GP licence, which covers fifty consultations per month at no additional charge. Beyond that volume, an Unlimited package can be added for EUR 33.63 per month, giving an unlimited number of AI consultations. The starter kit containing the microphone and the patient information mat is supplied free of charge to doctors using CareConnect GP. The price of the underlying CareConnect GP licence itself is quoted separately by Corilus and is not part of this tool's published pricing.
- bundled into the existing licence cost
- fifty AI consultations per month
- EUR 33.63 per month
- unlimited AI consultations
Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how CareConnect AI Assistant handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is documented rather than merely asserted. Corilus NV is the publisher, at company number 0428.555.896, and its general privacy statement carries a version date of 25 June 2024. A data protection officer is appointed and reachable at dpo@corilus.be, with reports and abuse going to qc@corilus.be, and the Belgian Data Protection Authority named as supervisory authority. A data processing agreement is published as a downloadable PDF together with an annex of technical and organisational measures. Subprocessors are listed per profession: for CareConnect General Practitioner they are Combell for hosting, Spryng for SMS, Matomo for analytics and Cavell for AI. Transfers outside the EEA are allowed only under an adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses, binding corporate rules or Article 42 certification. Corilus itself holds an ISO 27001:2022 certificate covering, among other things, software development for its general practitioner applications, though not the whole group.
Who owns the data?
The healthcare professional remains the controller of the patient data. Corilus acts as a processor, a role it sets out in the data processing agreement it publishes for its medical customers, and Cavell acts as a further processor for turning speech into text. Corilus states plainly that its privacy statements do not cover the patients of its customers: the caregiver is responsible for the health information and the medical record. In practice the doctor decides consultation by consultation whether to use the assistant, reviews the generated note, edits it, and only then saves it. Nothing enters the patient record without that approval.
Reuse rights
Use of the data is narrow and stated. The audio of the consultation is processed to be transcribed; alongside it the assistant reads the patient's gender, the record language and the medication and problem lists, purely to make the transcription more accurate. Corilus states that no further personal data is processed. The recording, the transcript and the note are used for no other purpose than producing the consultation note the doctor asked for, and are not reused. Corilus reserves only the right to keep purely technical data to improve the service, explicitly excluding the practitioner's data, the patient's data and the content of the recording. The doctor is free to reuse the saved note as part of the medical record.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Processing of the consultation audio takes place within the EU, at the subprocessor Cavell, under a zero data retention policy: the raw audio is deleted as soon as it has been converted to text. Corilus states that data is stored on secure servers within the EU, and undertakes more broadly to process personal data within the European Economic Area and Switzerland wherever possible. Transfers to a third country are permitted only under an adequacy decision from the European Commission, standard contractual clauses, binding corporate rules or Article 42 certification. Combell is the hosting partner named in the published subprocessor list for CareConnect General Practitioner, though no specific hosting country is stated. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. One caveat worth stating: the marketing website itself resolves to a content delivery node geolocated in the United States, which reflects where the brochure pages are served and says nothing about where consultation data lives.

Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting CareConnect AI Assistant.
- It is not a medical device: never let a generated note stand in for clinical judgement on diagnosis, monitoring or treatment
- Large language models mishear, especially specific medical terminology, so the vendor's instruction to reread every note is not a formality
- Automation complacency is the real risk over time: the easier the note appears, the less carefully it tends to get checked
- Informing the patient before first use is a legal obligation on the doctor, not something the software handles
- The audio leaves the practice for an external server, so the practice depends on a subprocessor's controls even though the audio is deleted at once
- Nothing is kept, so if a note is later disputed there is no recording or transcript to fall back on
- The product website still carries unreplaced template content, including a placeholder phone number and email address that are not real contact details
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very easy for an existing CareConnect GP user. Nothing needs to be installed: the assistant is already part of the software and only has to be activated, following a dedicated support article, with an onboarding webinar and a manual available. The single hardware requirement is an external multidirectional microphone, supplied free on request. The heavy prerequisite sits upstream rather than in the setup itself: the practice must already be a CareConnect GP customer, which is a procurement decision rather than a technical one.

Should you pick CareConnect AI Assistant?
CareConnect AI Assistant is a deliberately narrow tool, and that is its main strength and its main limitation at once. It does one job for one audience: turning a general practitioner's spoken consultation into a structured SOAP note, inside the CareConnect GP record where that doctor already works. Because it is native to that software rather than bolted on, there is nothing to install, no second login and no copying between systems, and fifty consultations a month come with the existing licence.
Its privacy posture is unusually well documented for a tool of this kind. The raw audio is deleted as soon as it is converted, neither recording nor transcript survives the end of the consultation, processing happens within the EU, and Corilus states without hedging that consultation data never trains the model. The subprocessor list is public and names Cavell as the AI partner, a data processing agreement is downloadable, and a data protection officer is reachable. Corilus also holds an ISO 27001:2022 certificate whose scope covers development of its general practitioner applications, though not the entire group.
The trade-offs are real. The assistant is inseparable from CareConnect GP, which makes it effectively a Belgian product working in Dutch and French only, with no offline mode and no way to replay what was said. The genuine entry price is not public either, since it depends on a licence quoted separately. Anyone already inside the Corilus ecosystem will find a mature, carefully governed assistant that removes a meaningful amount of typing. Anyone outside it cannot use this tool at all, and should read the vendor's own reminder that it is not a medical device and that every generated note still needs a doctor's eyes.
