Overview

What is Chatling?

Chatling is a customer support platform from Envision Labs Inc., built around a claim it states plainly: resolution rather than deflection. Instead of steering visitors toward a help-centre link or a ticket queue, its AI answers from the company's own material and escalates only when it genuinely cannot help.

The platform ships two distinct products. AI Agents decide for themselves which steps to chain — querying an order database, then updating a CRM record — without anyone mapping the path in advance. AI Chatbots follow flows assembled in a drag-and-drop builder from blocks such as Send Message, Capture Response, AI, Conditions, Actions and Send Email. Either can run on a website widget, on WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and Messenger, or through the API, and every conversation lands in one shared inbox.

Answer quality rests on the knowledge base. Chatling ingests websites, documentation, help centres, FAQs, individual URLs and uploaded files, stores them in a Pinecone vector database hosted in Ireland, then re-syncs them daily, weekly or monthly depending on the plan, so replies track current pricing and policies rather than last quarter's.

Model choice is unusually open: up to 28 models across five providers, among them GPT-5.5, GPT 5.4, Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Sonnet 4.6, Gemini 3.5 Flash, Mistral Large 3, Grok 4.2 and DeepSeek V3.2. That breadth carries an economic edge, because chats are unlimited on every plan and billing runs on AI credits instead. Each reply costs between 0.5 and 14 credits according to the model, which turns model selection into a direct cost lever — and, on the free plan, narrows the choice to four models.

Around this core sit the pieces a support team actually uses daily: a Copilot that drafts replies and summarises threads for human agents, reusable canned responses, file attachments, CSAT surveys, downloadable transcripts, operating hours, domain whitelisting and geo-blocking. Reporting covers resolution, peak hours, top countries and the questions customers ask most. Seventeen named integrations include Zapier, HubSpot, Zendesk, Zoho, Google Sheets and Cal.com, alongside seven site platforms from WordPress to Shopify. Chatling claims more than 1,000 teams and displays 4.7 out of 5 on G2 and 4.3 on Trustpilot.

What it does

  • Answer customer questions instantly using your own website, documentation and help-centre content
  • Hand a conversation to a human agent with an AI-written summary of the exchange so far
  • Run one agent across a website widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and Messenger from a single inbox
  • Build conversation flows by drag and drop, with no code involved
  • Execute real actions mid-conversation: query a database, update a CRM, send an email
  • Capture and qualify leads through in-chat forms, including outside working hours
  • Measure satisfaction with a post-chat CSAT survey and track resolution in the reports

When to use Chatling / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Chatling is the right fit.

When to use Chatling

  • Small and medium-sized businesses that need round-the-clock support without hiring a support team
  • E-commerce brands fielding order-tracking, shipping and product questions outside working hours
  • SaaS companies wanting onboarding and technical questions answered straight from their own documentation
  • Digital marketing agencies building and running chat agents on behalf of several client websites
  • Real estate, education and events organisations answering the same handbook or listing questions all day

When not to use Chatling

  • Enterprises that require SOC 2 or ISO 27001 evidence before signing, since Chatling claims neither
  • IT teams whose security policy mandates SSO or SAML, which the platform does not document
  • Organisations needing self-hosted or on-premise deployment, as only the vendor's cloud is offered
  • Large support desks, because seats stop at three and each extra seat is billed separately
  • Teams that need guaranteed response times or support in a language other than English by phone or chat

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • A permanent free plan with unlimited chats and two AI agents, with no credit card required
  • Unlimited chats on every plan: billing follows AI credits, so conversation volume is not the cost driver
  • Twenty-eight models from five providers, which lets you trade answer quality against credit cost yourself
  • Fully public pricing: tiers, per-unit add-ons and a complete feature comparison table
  • Main hosting inside the EU, in Amsterdam, even though the company is Canadian
  • A strong data posture for a vendor this size: fifteen subprocessors published, a DPA with SCCs, contractual no-training commitments from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, and GDPR requests answered in 14 days
  • A seven-day money-back guarantee refunded in full with no questions asked

Cons

  • AI credits are the real ceiling: 100 a month on the free plan against 14 credits for a single GPT-5.5 reply
  • Seats are very tight at one, two and three, with each extra seat billed at 10 USD a month
  • WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram and the API are all absent from the free plan
  • Removing the Powered by Chatling badge means the Plus plan or a 35 USD monthly add-on, and the CSAT survey and AI chat summary are Plus-only too
  • Support is English-only and email-only, with no service level guaranteed without a separate contract
  • No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, no documented SSO or SAML, no self-hosted option and no mobile app
  • Documentation contradicts itself on server location and on the minimum age, and the privacy policy has not been revised since July 2023

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Chatling handles your data.

GDPR overview

GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly and backed by concrete artefacts rather than a single sentence. A dedicated EU data protection page covers security, GDPR, the DPA and subprocessors. The published DPA incorporates the June 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses. Main storage and processing sit at DigitalOcean's Amsterdam data centre, described as a deliberate step beyond what the regulation requires. Fifteen subprocessors are listed with purpose and location, with notification available for new ones. Data subject requests are answered within 14 days against the 30 the regulation allows. Technical and organisational measures appear in Exhibit C of the DPA, with encryption at rest and TLS 1.2 in transit. Two gaps remain: no Article 27 EU representative and no data protection officer is named, and Chatling claims no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification.

Who owns the data?

Customers keep ownership of everything they put in. The terms state that your content remains yours, that Chatling claims no intellectual property rights over it and will never sell it, and that it is neither accessible to nor shared with other customers' chatbots. Chatling acts as data processor and the customer as controller and data exporter under the DPA. Two carve-outs deserve attention: you grant Chatling the right to display your chatbot publicly according to the privacy settings you choose, and any testimonial you publish about the product, directly or through a third-party platform, may be reused in its marketing. Payment details are held by Stripe, and Chatling retains copyright over the look and feel of the service itself.

Reuse rights

You can extract your own content at any time and reuse it freely, with no permission to request from Chatling. The restrictions run the other way, and protect the platform rather than limit your data. You may not reproduce, duplicate, sell, resell or otherwise exploit any part of the service, nor copy its HTML, CSS, JavaScript or code, nor reverse-engineer Chatling or the third-party packages it relies on. Stripping the "Powered by Chatling" badge with CSS or JavaScript instead of subscribing to the corresponding plan is expressly prohibited. Documents you upload as knowledge sources are permanently deleted from the servers once processed, or within seven days if processing fails, so the raw files do not linger on the vendor's side.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Personal data is kept only as long as the stated purposes require, and never longer than the period during which the user has an account, unless tax, accounting or other legal duties impose more. Once no legitimate need remains, data is deleted or anonymised, or securely isolated from further processing when deletion is impossible, as with backup archives. Documents uploaded as knowledge sources are permanently deleted once processed, or within seven days if processing fails. On termination the account and its data are removed from active databases, though some records may be kept for fraud prevention, disputes and legal compliance, and content is scheduled for irreversible deletion shortly after a subscription ends. DPA compliance records are held for three years. The chatbot's lead-form cookie lasts 365 days. The privacy policy in force is dated 11 July 2023.

Hosting summary

Chatling states that its main data storage and processing infrastructure sits at DigitalOcean's data centre in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, presented as a deliberate choice beyond what the GDPR requires. The privacy policy, last updated in July 2023, contradicts this by stating that servers are located in the United States; the site does not reconcile the two. Fifteen subprocessors are published with purpose and location: DigitalOcean in the Netherlands, Pinecone in Ireland, SnapShooter backups in Frankfurt, PostHog analytics and AWS in Germany, and Cloudflare, Postmark, Stripe, Render, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and xAI in the United States, with Mistral in the EU. International transfers are covered by a DPA carrying the June 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses. Customer data is encrypted at rest and TLS 1.2 protects data in transit. The domain resolves to a Cloudflare anycast node, which is a network point of presence and not a storage location. No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification is claimed by Chatling itself.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Chatling.

  • An agent fed stale or thin content will answer plausibly and wrongly, under your brand rather than Chatling's
  • Answers come from the knowledge base: a page that was never re-synced will keep quoting last season's prices or policies
  • Costs can surprise you if you pick an expensive model — 14 credits per reply exhausts 3,000 credits in roughly 214 messages
  • Actions write to real systems: a poorly scoped action can update a CRM record or email a customer for real
  • The chatbot's lead-form cookie stores end-user details for 365 days, which makes you the controller of that data
  • Handing all first-line contact to AI erodes your team's feel for what customers are actually struggling with
  • You inherit a long dependency chain: five model providers and fifteen subprocessors sit behind the service
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low for the standard case. Chatling advertises no-code setup in minutes, and the path is short: connect your sources, assemble the flow by drag and drop, paste the widget. Native integrations for WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, Squarespace, PrestaShop and Bubble remove any need to touch code, and one customer reports twenty minutes of configuration from a handbook and a website. Difficulty rises in two places: WhatsApp requires display-name approval, and configuring actions or the API means handling calls, keys and field mapping into a CRM. A Widget SDK exists for teams that want finer control.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which channels can a Chatling agent run on?
A website widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and Messenger, plus the API. Only the web widget is included in the free plan; the messaging channels and the API start with the Standard plan.
Is there a free plan, and what does it include?
Yes, a permanent free plan at no cost, with unlimited chats, 100 AI credits per month, 25 email credits, one seat, two AI agents, 500,000 knowledge base characters and four AI models. No credit card is requested.
How do AI credits work?
Chats are unlimited, but every AI reply consumes credits according to the model used, from 0.5 credit for lighter models such as Grok 4.1 Fast or GPT-4o mini up to 14 credits for GPT-5.5 or Claude Opus 4.8. Credits reset monthly, and extra credits cost 10 USD per 1,000.
Which AI models are available?
Up to 28 models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, xAI and DeepSeek, including GPT-5.5, Claude Opus 4.8, Gemini 3.5 Flash, Mistral Large 3 and Grok 4.2. The free plan is limited to four: GPT 5.1, GPT-4.1, GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. Section 3.2 of the terms states that your content, data sources and the chatbots' inputs and outputs will not be used by the model providers to train their models, and links to the corresponding OpenAI, Anthropic and Google policies.
Where is the data hosted?
Main storage and processing are at DigitalOcean's Amsterdam data centre in the Netherlands, a step the vendor presents as going beyond GDPR requirements. Note that the privacy policy, last updated in July 2023, still says servers are located in the United States, so the point is worth confirming.
Is a Data Processing Agreement available?
Yes. A DPA is published on the site and incorporates the June 2021 Standard Contractual Clauses. Fifteen subprocessors are listed with their purpose and location, and data subject requests are answered within 14 days.
How many languages does the AI handle?
The vendor advertises more than 80 languages on the homepage and in the pricing FAQ, and more than 85 in the features section. The list itself is never published, so only English, German and Italian could be confirmed from the site's own content.
What is the refund policy?
A seven-day money-back guarantee applies to an initial purchase. A refund can be requested by email within 14 days of that first purchase and is granted in full with no questions asked.
Is there a mobile app, and what is the minimum age?
No iOS or Android application was found. The terms require users to be 13 or older, while the privacy policy says data is not knowingly collected from anyone under 18 — a contradiction the vendor has not resolved.
Conclusion

Should you pick Chatling?

Chatling is a mature product for its segment, and it competes on two things rather than on feature count. The first is pricing structure: chats are unlimited on every plan and billing follows AI credits, so the cost driver is which model you choose rather than how many customers write in. With 28 models across five providers and a published credit cost per reply, that lever is genuinely in the buyer's hands — a rare degree of transparency. The second is its data posture, which is stronger than the company's size would suggest: main hosting in Amsterdam, fifteen subprocessors published with purpose and location, a DPA carrying the Standard Contractual Clauses, contractual no-training commitments from the model providers, and GDPR requests answered in 14 days rather than 30.

The limits are just as clear. AI credits run out quickly on premium models, seats stop at three, and the messaging channels, the API, the CSAT survey and badge removal all sit behind paid tiers. There is no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, no documented SSO, no self-hosted option and no mobile app, which rules the platform out for buyers with a formal security checklist. Documentation discipline is the weakest point: the privacy policy has not been revised since July 2023 and contradicts the EU data protection page on where servers sit, while the minimum age differs between the terms and the privacy policy.

For a small or mid-sized team, an e-commerce brand, an agency or a SaaS company that wants questions actually answered from its own content — and can live without certifications — Chatling is a credible and unusually legible choice. The free plan is generous enough to test the claim before paying anything.
