ChatNode
ChatNode turns a company website, documents and knowledge bases into AI support agents that answer visitors around the clock, run real tasks through AI Actions such as bookings and API calls, and hand tricky conversations over to human staff.
What is ChatNode?
ChatNode is a no-code platform for building AI agents that handle customer service. Published by ChatNode AI LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, it positions itself squarely against the scripted chatbot: where a classic bot follows pre-built flows and only ever answers, a ChatNode agent learns from your material, completes real tasks and escalates when it cannot.
Training is the starting point. The agent crawls your website and ingests documents, URLs or text pasted straight into the dashboard. PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and plain text files are accepted, capped at 8 MB per file on the Free and Lite tiers and 20 MB above them. The free plan allows 500,000 characters per bot; paid tiers raise that to 12,500,000 characters per agent, with training URL quotas running from 8 on Free to 10,000 on Scale. Auto-retrain refreshes the agent's knowledge every 14 days from the Standard tier onwards.
What sets the product apart is AI Actions. The agent can call your own APIs, handle Stripe billing, book meetings through Calendly or Cal.com and capture leads, so it books appointments, shows invoices and updates records instead of merely replying. Allowances run from 5 actions per agent on Lite to 20 on Scale.
ChatNode is deliberately model-agnostic. Eleven large language models can be picked per task, among them GPT-5.2, GPT-5-mini, Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview, Gemini 3 Flash Preview, Claude 4 Sonnet, Claude 4.5 Haiku, Sonar Pro and DeepSeek R1; the free plan runs Gemini 2.0 Pro. Usage is metered in message credits, one per reply for most models and twenty for the advanced ones, renewed on the 15th of each month and never carried over.
Going live is a copy-paste job: take the snippet from the Share tab, drop it into your site's HTML, and the widget works on as many sites as you like. First-party connectors cover WordPress, Slack, Notion, Zendesk, SharePoint, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Crisp, Zapier, Make and webhooks. Conversations can be passed to a human with full context, and analytics report satisfaction, popular topics and support hours saved. Custom domains and removal of the ChatNode badge arrive with Scale or as paid add-ons.

When to use ChatNode / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if ChatNode is the right fit.
When to use ChatNode
- Support teams buried under repetitive questions such as FAQs, order status and password resets
- Solopreneurs and very small businesses with no dedicated support headcount, which the Lite tier is explicitly pitched at
- E-commerce managers who want to answer site visitors 24/7 and capture leads outside office hours
- Marketers and growth teams, the audience the Standard tier names as its own
- IT and HR teams running internal help desks, onboarding and policy questions
When not to use ChatNode
- Anyone handling health, banking or other sensitive personal data, which the terms flatly prohibit
- Organisations that require a completed SOC 2 audit, since certification is only described as in progress
- Teams under an EU data residency obligation, as hosting is in the United States with no EU option
- Buyers who need a mobile app, as neither an iOS nor an Android app exists
- High-risk settings where a wrong answer could cause injury, which the terms exclude outright
How to use ChatNode
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Open a free account; no credit card is requested at sign-up
- Crawl your website and add documents, URLs or pasted text under the Data tab
- Set the brand voice and the answering policies the agent must respect
- Pick the language model that suits each task in the agent settings
- Configure AI Actions: API calls, Stripe billing, meeting booking, lead capture
- Connect the tools you already use from the Integrations section
- Style the widget under the Appearance tab: colours, fonts, avatar, welcome message
- Copy the embed code from the Share tab, paste it into your site's HTML and test it
- Switch on auto-retrain so the knowledge refreshes every 14 days
- Watch conversations under History and track results in Analytics
Pros & Cons
Pros
- A permanently free plan plus a 7-day trial on paid tiers, neither asking for a card
- Pricing published in full, tier by tier, with a comparison table and every add-on priced
- Eleven language models included in the subscription, with no API key of your own to supply
- No-code setup, with integrations advertised as taking three to five minutes
- A stated zero-retention policy: customer data is never used to train models
- Compliance transparency well above its size class: trust portal, 15 named subprocessors, published DPA
- API access and developer documentation from the entry paid tier at USD 35 a month
Cons
- SOC 2 is only described as in progress, so no completed certification at the time of review
- Hosting is United States only, with no EU data residency option
- No Article 27 EU representative is designated despite the company being Delaware-based
- A single contact channel for everything: one generic email, no contact page, no phone, no form
- No public social presence at all, which makes the company hard to verify independently
- Message credits reset on the 15th rather than on your billing date and never roll over, while advanced models burn twenty credits per reply
- Visible editorial neglect: typos in the published address, a rival product's name left in a plan description, and a pricing FAQ still quoting a previous model generation
Pricing & Plans
ChatNode offers a permanently free plan at USD 0, limited to one chatbot, one seat and 35 message credits a month, with inactive bots deleted after 14 days. The cheapest paid tier is Lite at USD 35 per month, or USD 350 per year, and a 7-day free trial is available without a credit card. Annual commitment adds two free months, a saving of 17%. Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how ChatNode handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR is addressed concretely rather than in passing. Section 6 of the privacy policy names the lawful bases relied on, confirms that impact assessments are run, states that a Data Protection Officer has been appointed, and commits to notifying a breach within 72 hours. A dedicated compliance portal at trust.chatnode.ai walks the regulation article by article, publishes a Data Processing Addendum, lists 15 named subprocessors with their country, and hosts a form for exercising access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection rights. The DPA is incorporated into the terms by reference, with the customer as data exporter and ChatNode as data importer. Two gaps are worth naming: no Article 27 representative is designated in the EU although the company is Delaware-based, and the pages we read mention neither standard contractual clauses nor the Data Privacy Framework.
Who owns the data?
You keep ownership of your Customer Content, and the terms say so plainly. By putting that content into the service you grant ChatNode a worldwide, non-exclusive, limited-term licence to access, use, process, copy, store, transmit and display it, restricted to three purposes: running and improving the service, fixing security or support problems, and complying with the law. Inputs and outputs of the AI functions count as your content too. ChatNode keeps everything on the platform side, including usage analytics, which it may exploit to develop its products. Access is limited to qualified staff with a specific need, normally when you ask for support, and data is walled off per workspace by row-level controls.
Reuse rights
You can reuse what the service produces without asking: outputs are treated as your own content, exports come in standard formats for GDPR portability, any record or full conversation history can be deleted, and past chats stay readable under the History tab. Five limits apply. You may not use outputs to build foundation models that compete with ChatNode, pass output off as purely human work, ignore the documented parameters, base decisions that affect people's rights on them without human review, or infringe anyone's rights. The terms also warn, in capitals, not to rely on factual claims in an output without checking them independently, and note that another customer submitting a similar input may get a similar answer back.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Customer data sits in the United States, on Amazon Web Services, and the trust portal says so directly when asked about transfers out of the EU. The terms add that the service is operated from a US cloud, and that the service and customer content may be accessed, mirrored or administered from various locations outside the country. No EU data residency option is offered. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.3 using AES-256 in transit, backups included, and separated by workspace and organisation through row-level access controls. Fifteen subprocessors are named with their country, almost all United States based: Pinecone for vector storage, Supabase as cloud provider, Vercel for engineering, OpenAI for AI services, Stripe for payments, Cloudflare, Cookiebot, Google APIs, jsDelivr, Wistia and others. One technical caveat: the domain resolves to an Amazon CloudFront edge node geolocated in Zurich, which is a delivery point on the content network and not a place where data is stored.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting ChatNode.
- An agent trained on a snapshot of your site will state stale facts with total confidence: auto-retrain only exists from the Standard tier and only runs every 14 days
- The terms themselves warn in capitals against relying on factual claims in an output without checking them, which is easy to forget once the widget is live
- Handing the front line to an agent can quietly deafen a company to its own customers, and the weak signals a human picks up in conversation stop arriving
- A public agent answers anyone holding the link; misconfigured, it can surface internal material that was fed into its training
- Your training content, conversations and automations all live with a third party whose exit path is undocumented, which builds real operational dependence
- Data passes through many US subprocessors including OpenAI, Pinecone, Supabase, Vercel, Cloudflare and Google, so the exposure surface is far wider than ChatNode alone
- Subscriptions renew automatically and fees are largely non-refundable, while deletion becomes irreversible after 90 days, so an unattended account keeps billing and an unbacked export is gone for good
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low, and honestly advertised as such. ChatNode calls itself beginner-friendly with zero technical skills required, and offers a visual agent designer; integrations are said to take three to five minutes. The only real skill needed is pasting a snippet from the Share tab into your site's HTML, and WordPress users can go through the integration instead. Cloud connectors for Google Drive, Notion, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint are a few clicks each. Two things do call for a developer: AI Actions that hit your own APIs, and use of the ChatNode API itself.

Should you pick ChatNode?
ChatNode does what it says on the label, and does it at a price that is hard to argue with. Turning a website and a pile of documents into a support agent that can also book a meeting, show an invoice or call your API is a genuinely useful step beyond the scripted chatbot, and getting eleven language models, API access and a documented integration set from USD 35 a month is competitive. The free plan is real rather than decorative, and pricing is published in full, add-ons included.
The compliance posture is the pleasant surprise. A company this young publishing a trust portal, a Data Processing Addendum, fifteen named subprocessors with their countries and an article-by-article GDPR checklist is doing more than most of its rivals. The stated zero-retention policy on model training is a clear commitment rather than a hedge.
Set against that, several gaps deserve weight before you commit. SOC 2 is still in progress, hosting is United States only with no EU residency option, and no Article 27 EU representative is named even though the company sits in Delaware. Support runs entirely through one generic email address, with no contact page and no public social presence to verify the company against. The credit mechanic deserves a careful read: quotas reset on the 15th rather than on your billing date, unused credits vanish, and advanced models cost twenty times a standard reply.
Small signs of a thinly staffed operation show through too, from a misspelt address in the terms to a rival's name left in a plan description. For a small team or an online shop that wants a capable support agent live this week, ChatNode is a sound choice; for a regulated buyer with an audit checklist, it is not there yet.
