It was born in Berlin under the name Courseau, was acquired by LearnUpon in November 2025, and took its current name on 26 May 2026; courseau.co now redirects to createupon.ai, while the application itself still runs on app.courseau.co.
The premise is summarised on the site as source to course. Rather than starting from a blank page, you hand over material you already have — recorded webinars, videos, standard operating procedures, PDFs, slide decks, audio files or a web link — and the tool engineers a course structure in seconds, then writes the lessons. What separates it from a general-purpose assistant, according to the vendor, is that the AI is anchored exclusively to the material you supplied, so the result keeps your structure and your voice instead of filling gaps with generic text. The workflow deliberately imitates an instructional designer: you describe the audience, the learning outcomes and the tone, adjust a storyboard outline, then generate.
What comes out is an interactive course rather than a document. Lessons carry quizzes, flip cards and carousels; comprehensive exams can be scored and gated; AI narration in eleven voices turns text into audio; and built-in translation opens the material to a large number of languages. An agentic editor lets you rearrange components by drag and drop, apply an organisation theme in one click, collaborate live with colleagues and roll back through version history.
CreateUpon is explicitly not a learning management system. It produces the courses and hands them on: a SCORM 1.2 package feeds an existing LMS, including LearnUpon's own, while direct links, password-protected pages, iframes, QR codes, PDF and fully editable PowerPoint cover everything else.
Plans are metered in lessons — twenty a month on Personal, fifty on Pro, unlimited on Enterprise — with source limits of five files and 100,000 words of context, raised to ten files and 500,000 words for enterprises. GDPR overview
CreateUpon claims full compliance with the GDPR and with its EU AI Act obligations, and publishes a complete data processing agreement incorporated by reference into the terms. That agreement covers EU and UK GDPR, the Swiss FADP, the CCPA/CPRA and several US state laws; it applies the European Commission's standard contractual clauses to transfers outside the EEA, commits to notifying breaches within 72 hours, grants audit rights, and requires a public subprocessor list with thirty days' notice before any change. The company is established in Dublin, so no Article 27 representative is required. One serious gap remains: the privacy policy and cookie policy pages linked in every footer render completely empty, so no privacy notice is actually readable on the site.
Who owns the data?
The terms of service are unambiguous: the content you upload and the AI output you generate remain your sole and exclusive property, and the vendor acquires no ownership rights in either. You grant a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display and process that content, but only as far as is needed to provide, maintain and improve the platform. Under the data processing agreement you act as controller and CreateUpon as processor. Two carve-outs deserve attention: suggestions and feedback you send may be reused perpetually and irrevocably, and aggregated, anonymised usage data may be exploited internally for analytics and benchmarking, provided it identifies no one.
Reuse rights
You may reuse everything you create without asking permission. Courses, text, audio, video and graphics produced on the platform are defined as your property, and your plan governs whether you deliver them internally or commercially. Exports are deliberately open, so material can leave the tool without conversion: SCORM 1.2 for a learning management system, PDF, fully editable PowerPoint, direct links, embedded iframes and QR codes. Two contractual limits apply. The unlimited-credit fair use licence covers internal training projects only and excludes freelance or unaffiliated commercial work, and each licence belongs to one named individual rather than being shared across a team, though an administrator can reassign it in full.

Hosting summary
The help centre states plainly that data is stored on secure servers located in the United States, with providers certified to SOC 2, ISO 27001 and other standards. Traffic is encrypted with TLS 1.2 or above, and data at rest with AES-256 on encrypted volumes, sensitive fields receiving a further layer. The data processing agreement adds logical separation between customers, physical and logical access controls, two-factor authentication for remote and privileged accounts, patch management and regular backups. Transfers outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum, and the governing law of that agreement is Irish. CreateUpon does one thing and does not pretend otherwise: it turns material an organisation already owns into a finished, interactive course, and then hands that course to whatever system delivers it. That focus is its main argument. Subject-matter experts who would never open an authoring studio can produce something structured and on brand in an afternoon, and the customers quoted on the site — a lean learning team, a safety consultancy, a criminology professor — describe the same shift, from weeks of assembly to hours of refinement.
The data posture is stronger than average for a generative tool. Customer content is not used for training, the AI providers are contractually barred from doing so, a full data processing agreement is public, subprocessors are listed and kept current, and encryption and single sign-on are in place.
