Overview

What is Cryptohopper?

Cryptohopper is a cloud-hosted trading bot for cryptocurrency markets, published by the Dutch company Cryptohopper B.V. (Hamerstraat 3D, Edam, Chamber of Commerce number 70270481) and founded in 2017 by two brothers, Ruud and Pim Feltkamp. The site sells it as the world's most customizable crypto trading bot, and the claim is really about the number of settings it exposes.

The principle is straightforward. You connect one of the eleven officially supported exchanges - Binance, Binance.US, Coinbase Advanced, Kraken, KuCoin, OKX, Crypto.com, Bitvavo, BingX, BitMart or HTX - through Fast Connect (OAuth2) or API keys. Your coins never leave that exchange, and Cryptohopper states it never asks for withdrawal rights. Your bot, called a hopper, then runs in the cloud continuously, even with your computer switched off.

Use splits into three levels. The easy path relies on ready-made marketplace templates, a Copy Bot mirroring an experienced trader, third-party signals, trailing orders, DCA and portfolio bots. The professional path adds paper trading, backtesting and the Strategy Designer, a no-code builder combining over 130 technical indicators and candlestick patterns to open and close positions. Above that sits Algorithm Intelligence, which imports strategies, signals and TradingView feeds, backtests them together, scores and ranks them market by market, then switches between them as the trend changes - the page calls it your pocket hedge-fund.

A social layer surrounds the product: a marketplace where professional traders sell templates, strategies, signals and copy bots, trading tournaments, an XP-based Cryptohopper+ loyalty programme with Plus, Pro, Expert and Master levels, and a free multi-exchange Trading Terminal. Developers get a public API in beta with webhooks and code samples, plus a Model Context Protocol server exposing candles, order-book depth and bid/ask imbalance to Claude, Cursor or any MCP client.

The company claims 1,151,419 traders, more than nine million transactions worth an estimated two billion US dollars each month, exchange uptime between 99.52% and 99.92%, and a 4/5 rating over 362 published reviews. It is equally explicit about its limits: Cryptohopper is not a regulated entity, it gives no personal financial advice, and it says the platform suits only users who fully understand the risks involved.

What it does

  • Trade automatically around the clock on one or several connected exchanges
  • Build a trading strategy without coding, from more than 130 technical indicators and candlestick patterns
  • Copy an experienced trader with a Copy Bot, or subscribe to third-party signals
  • Train an AI that scores, ranks and switches between strategies as the market turns
  • Backtest a configuration on historical data and run it in paper trading before risking real money
  • Apply trailing stops, DCA, short selling and event-driven triggers, and run arbitrage or market making on the top tier
  • Feed live market data to an AI assistant through the Cryptohopper MCP server

When to use Cryptohopper / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Cryptohopper is the right fit.

When to use Cryptohopper

  • Beginner traders who want an automated bot without writing a line of code, using ready-made marketplace templates or a Copy Bot
  • Casual traders who cannot watch the market all day and want a hopper running in the cloud around the clock
  • Algorithmic traders who want to build, backtest and rank their own strategies in the Strategy Designer and Algorithm Intelligence
  • Asset managers who need to steer several client portfolios and connected exchange accounts from a single dashboard
  • Professional traders and developers who want to sell strategies, signals or copy bots on the marketplace, or plug into the API, webhooks and MCP market-data server

When not to use Cryptohopper

  • Anyone under 18: the terms require users to be at least eighteen years old
  • Investors who want stocks, ETFs, forex or any traditional market, since the platform is crypto-only
  • People looking for personal investment advice: the terms state that Cryptohopper gives no personal recommendations on settings and no personal financial advice
  • Anyone trading money they cannot afford to lose, or who does not fully understand the risks the terms insist on
  • Users who need a supervised, regulated provider with a documented data-protection framework, since the footer states plainly that Cryptohopper is not a regulated entity

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Cryptohopper handles your data.

GDPR overview

There is no mention of the GDPR anywhere on the site - the regulation is never named, neither to claim compliance nor to deny it. What stands in its place is a short privacy policy last updated on 21 January 2020, with no legal basis for processing, no access, rectification or portability rights, no data protection officer and no Article 27 representative. The terms, refreshed on 30 July 2025, only refer generically to applicable data protection laws and to appropriate contractual safeguards with providers. The single concrete right offered is account deactivation, after which data is deleted within 30 days. The publisher is established in the Netherlands, so it falls squarely within the GDPR's scope, yet displays no compliance statement. Privacy contact: info@cryptohopper.com, Johan van Hasseltweg 18a, 1022 WV Amsterdam, +31 85 876 9694.

Who owns the data?

Cryptohopper describes itself in its terms as the exclusive licensee of all intellectual property rights covering its services and everything made available through them. Users receive only a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable licence, withdrawable without notice if the terms are breached. Content posted in the user forum stays user-generated; Cryptohopper does not monitor it but may remove it. Personal data is provided voluntarily and, in the privacy policy's words, not shared with outside parties except to the extent necessary to provide the service: analytics, monitoring, payment, cloud hosting and security providers, some outside the user's country, plus limited data sent to exchange partners to check offer eligibility. Ownership of trading data and exchange API keys is never addressed.

Reuse rights

The licence granted to users covers use of the platform under the terms and the active subscription, nothing more. Article 8.3 forbids copying, reselling, sublicensing, modifying, reverse-engineering or translating the platform, creating derivative works, and pulling data out of it with automated systems - what the terms call screen-scraping. No clause grants any right to export or commercially reuse the market data the platform supplies. What users can freely monetise is their own output: through the Pro Traders programme they may sell the templates, strategies, signals and copy bots they create on the marketplace. On the personal-data side, users can act alone: deactivating the account from the profile settings triggers deletion of their data.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Cryptohopper keeps user data for 30 days after an account is deactivated, then deletes it permanently. Deactivation is done by the user from the profile settings, under "Deactivate your account". During those 30 days the account can be reactivated at any moment simply by logging back in. Deletion covers hoppers, subscriptions, templates, strategies and other account data. Changing a username or an email address does not require deactivating the account. Beyond that, nothing is published: the site gives no retention period for active accounts, logs, billing records or trading history, and never mentions anonymisation.
GDPR contact

Hosting summary

Cryptohopper declares no hosting country or region anywhere on its site. The only relevant statement is in the terms, where cloud hosting appears as one category of third-party provider among analytics, monitoring, payment and security, with the warning that some of these providers may be located outside your country of residence. None of them is named. Jurisdiction, by contrast, is explicit: the publisher Cryptohopper B.V. is established in Edam, in the Netherlands, the terms are governed by Dutch law, and the competent court is in Amsterdam. On security, the privacy policy states that sensitive exchanges travel over an SSL-secured channel and are encrypted and digitally signed. The front end is served behind Cloudflare, whose anycast network resolves to a United States node, but that says nothing about where data actually rests. In short: a clear European jurisdiction, an undisclosed hosting footprint.

Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Cryptohopper.

  • Financial loss is real: automated crypto trading can wipe out part or all of your capital, and the site itself tells you to only put in money that you can afford to lose
  • Illusion of performance: the profits shown in the site's screenshots are described as illustrative and possibly exaggerated, and past marketplace results say nothing about the future
  • Delegated judgement: letting a bot decide around the clock can erode the discipline and market understanding you would otherwise build yourself
  • Behavioural pull: constant notifications, tournaments, XP levels and leaderboards form an engagement loop that encourages overtrading
  • Herd risk: copying a trader or buying a signal hands your capital to an unsupervised third party whose quality Cryptohopper explicitly declines responsibility for
  • No supervision and a thin safety net: the publisher is not a regulated entity, liability is capped at 1,000 USD, and stolen Cryptohopper credentials are the user's own responsibility under the terms
  • Blurred data governance and recurring cost: no GDPR mention, no named subprocessor, no declared hosting country, and a subscription that stacks on top of exchange fees
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Setting up is easy; tuning is not. You create an account, then connect your exchange through Fast Connect (OAuth2) or API keys, with a tutorial provided for key creation. No programming is needed: the site promises expert tools without coding skills, and marketplace templates, Copy Bots and third-party signals give beginners a shortcut. The real difficulty lies in the strategy settings: indicators, triggers, DCA and trailing. A testimonial admits it took a while to get used to the settings. Documentation, an academy, a helpdesk and Discord and Telegram communities help. The API and MCP server target a technical audience.

Fundraising

No funding round has been announced to date: Cryptohopper B.V. has never made a raise public, and the usual startup databases list none.
The company states it grew entirely through bootstrapping, in the words of its CFO quoted in an August 2021 press release.
In August 2021 Cryptohopper appointed Eli van Goudoever as CFO with the stated mission of securing substantial funding to accelerate expansion, and the CEO presented him as the person hired to lead the fundraising. That is an intention to raise, not a raise: no completed round has been announced since.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are my funds safe with Cryptohopper?
Your funds always remain on your exchange. Cryptohopper connects to it through Fast Connect (OAuth2) or API keys and states that it will never ask for withdrawal rights.
Is there a free plan or a free trial?
Both. A free entry tier called Pioneer is offered at 0.00 USD, and every registration starts a three-day free trial of the Explorer plan.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. The Strategy Designer, the marketplace templates and the Copy Bot are all built to be used without writing code.
Which exchanges are supported?
Eleven exchanges are officially supported: Crypto.com, KuCoin, Coinbase Advanced, OKX, BingX, Bitvavo, Binance, Kraken, Binance.US, BitMart and HTX.
How much money do I need to start?
It depends on your exchange. The site indicates that starting with around 20 USD is possible, though the cost of the subscription should be factored in.
Can I run several bots?
You can hold several bots on one account, but a single subscription entitles you to one trading bot and one paper-trading bot.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes, Cryptohopper publishes an iOS app on the App Store and an Android app on Google Play.
How do I cancel, and can I get a refund?
Cancellation happens from the Subscriptions page of your account, or through the App Store or Play Store for an in-app purchase. Explorer, Adventurer and Hero subscriptions are refundable within two weeks of purchase.
Which payment methods are accepted?
PayPal, Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, Wero/iDEAL, Bancontact, Przelewy24, bank transfer, BitPay for cryptocurrencies, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Belfius, Trustly, Bancomat, Satispay, Multibanco, MB Way and EPS.
Is there an API?
Yes. A developer API is available in beta, with authentication, webhooks and code examples, alongside an MCP server that exposes market data to AI clients.
Conclusion

Should you pick Cryptohopper?

Cryptohopper has been running since 2017 behind an identified Dutch publisher, and that maturity shows. Its real strength is depth of configuration made reachable without code: the Strategy Designer, more than 130 indicators and candlestick patterns, event triggers, DCA and trailing orders sit next to a social ecosystem of marketplace templates, signals, copy bots and tournaments that gives a beginner somewhere to start. The structural safeguard matters just as much: your funds stay on your own exchange and the platform never asks for withdrawal rights, which removes the custody risk that sinks so many crypto services. Backtesting and paper trading let you rehearse before committing money.

The weak side is data governance. The GDPR is never mentioned, the privacy policy dates from January 2020, no data processing agreement is published, no subprocessor is named and no hosting country is declared. The regulatory framing is equally blunt: Cryptohopper is not a regulated entity, contractual liability is capped at 1,000 USD or the amounts paid over six months, and any losses are yours alone. The profits displayed in the site's own screenshots are described as illustrative and possibly exaggerated, which is honest but also a warning about what to expect.

Cost deserves a clear head. Twenty-nine US dollars a month buys the paid entry plan; reaching the AI, arbitrage and market-making features means 129 USD a month, all of it on top of exchange fees. On a modest portfolio, that subscription can quietly eat the gains it is meant to produce. Cryptohopper is a capable, well-built automation tool for someone who understands crypto risk, is ready to learn the settings, and trades enough capital to justify the bill - not a shortcut to easy money.
