Overview

What is Doks.ai?

Doks.ai is a chatbot builder for companies that already own the answers but keep re-typing them. You point it at your material, it learns from it, and it replies to visitors in your place. Accepted sources are website URLs, an XML sitemap, knowledge base articles, helpdesk tickets, uploaded documents and pasted text; supported formats are Markdown, Markdoc, MDX, HTML and plain text, with AsciiDoc and reStructuredText announced for later. There is no cap on how many documents you train on. The quotas that matter are characters per project and monthly message credits, one credit being one GPT-3.5 Turbo message.

The engine is ChatGPT. The FAQ says GPT-3.5-turbo runs by default and that GPT-4 is coming soon, while the pricing grid already lists GPT-4 as included on the two lower tiers and marks it Coming Soon on the two upper ones. That contradiction sits unresolved on the live site and is worth knowing before you buy.

Deployment is deliberately plain: a script pasted into your page head renders either a floating support button or a custom search trigger for documentation. One project equals one chatbot, and the tiers sell two, five, ten or fifteen of them. Training takes one to two minutes on average, and a Retrain AI button refreshes the bot free of charge whenever your content moves.

Beyond answering, the widget collects. Lead generation forms, helpdesk tickets, sales enquiries, offline messages and demo bookings all live inside the chat window, with configurable field types, and a visitor can escalate to a human at any point. The bot detects the language of each question and replies in it, or you can pin a language in the Base Prompt. Appearance, tone and personality are all adjustable, and the Doks branding can be removed. A working demo answers questions about Doks.ai itself on the homepage.

What it does

  • Train a chatbot on your website, XML sitemap, documentation, uploaded files or pasted text
  • Answer visitor questions in natural language, in whatever language the question was asked
  • Deflect repetitive support tickets before they reach a human agent
  • Capture and qualify leads through customisable forms inside the chat window
  • Hand over to a human agent, open a helpdesk ticket or let visitors book a demo
  • Retrain the bot as often as you like, at no extra cost, whenever your content changes
  • Match the widget to your brand and track what people are actually asking

When to use Doks.ai / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Doks.ai is the right fit.

When to use Doks.ai

  • SaaS teams that already publish public documentation or a knowledge base and want it answered conversationally
  • Small support teams drowning in repetitive questions, where deflecting even a third of tickets frees real hours
  • Solo founders and small businesses: the entry tier costs 19 USD a month and setup is advertised at two minutes
  • Documentation owners working in Markdown, Markdoc, MDX, HTML or plain text, including GitBook users
  • Sites that want to capture and qualify leads inside the chat window, with human hand-off and demo booking built in

When not to use Doks.ai

  • Anyone whose knowledge lives in video or audio: Doks.ai handles text only, and you must transcribe first
  • Teams that need a permanent free tier, since only a 7-day trial survives and refunds are never granted
  • Developers who expect to drive the product through an API, as no API documentation is published anywhere
  • Buyers whose procurement requires a signed DPA, a named subprocessor list or an identified legal entity
  • Regulated use cases the terms exclude outright, including medical guidance, tailored financial advice without human review and political campaigning

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Doks.ai handles your data.

GDPR overview

Doks.ai never claims GDPR compliance in so many words. Across the nine pages collected, the acronym appears exactly once, inside a transfer clause promising that supplementary measures keep the protection guaranteed by the GDPR from being undermined. What the privacy policy does publish is real enough: Standard Contractual Clauses said to be implemented and available on request, a designated Data Protection Officer reachable at support@doks.ai, and the full list of EEA and UK rights, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent and the right to complain to a local supervisory authority. Responses are promised within fourteen working days. Missing, however, are a Data Processing Agreement, a named subprocessor list and any Article 27 EU representative. The policy has not been updated since 1 June 2023.

Who owns the data?

You keep ownership. The terms state that you retain all rights to the content you submit, and the affiliate agreement repeats that the customer owns and retains all rights to Customer Data. In exchange you grant Doks.ai a licence to use, modify, reproduce, publicly display and distribute that content on and through the service, and the company reserves a perpetual, worldwide, sub-licensable right over any feedback or suggestions you send. Doks.ai may monitor and edit user content without being obliged to. Practically, your material also passes through OpenAI, listed among the third parties in the privacy policy. After termination the company may delete everything, and it is not recoverable.

Reuse rights

Nothing in the published documents grants you a right to reuse Doks.ai's own material: the terms reserve the website, graphics and marketing content to the company and forbid using them for monetary or non-monetary gain without explicit permission. Company names, logos and marks may only be used to identify yourself as a customer. Your own content is a different matter, since you keep your rights over it and can export, edit or delete it from the dashboard. On its side, Doks.ai uses the personal data it collects for account management, billing, support, fraud prevention, legal compliance, marketing and targeted advertising, plus aggregated analytics. It shares data with categories of third parties including OpenAI, ad networks, hosting providers, analytics tools and payment processors, and states it has neither sold nor shared personal information for commercial purposes in the past twelve months.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
The privacy policy sets a clear ceiling: no purpose described in it will require personal information to be kept for longer than three months past the termination of the user's account. Data is otherwise kept only as long as the stated purposes require, unless a longer period is legally mandated. Once there is no ongoing business need, information is deleted or anonymised; where that is impossible, for instance because it sits in backup archives, it is stored securely and isolated from further processing until deletion becomes possible. If you ask to close your account, it is deactivated or deleted from the active databases, with limited retention allowed for fraud prevention, disputes and legal obligations. Access, correction and deletion requests are answered within fourteen working days. Separately, the terms warn that after cancellation your data may be deleted and cannot be recovered.

Hosting summary

The privacy policy states plainly that the company is based in the United States and that its servers are located in the United States. It then widens the scope: your information may be transferred to, stored and processed in the United Kingdom, the United States, Taiwan and other countries, both by Doks.ai and by the third parties it shares data with. For transfers out of the EEA or the United Kingdom, the company says it relies on Standard Contractual Clauses, available on request, plus technical, contractual and organisational supplementary measures where necessary. No hosting provider is ever named; the policy only lists a category called Website Hosting Service Providers. Payment data is stored by Paddle. Network checks show the site served behind Cloudflare, which the company does not itself disclose. There is no data residency option and no European hosting region on offer, so a buyer who needs data to stay in the EU will not find that commitment here.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Doks.ai.

  • The product shows no visible activity since July 2023: no changelog entry, a footer copyright stuck at 2024 and legal documents unchanged since June 2023. Confirm the service is still maintained before you build on it
  • You cannot tell who you are contracting with. No registered company, no postal address, no about or contact page, and a single obfuscated email address serving support, legal and privacy questions
  • The site contradicts itself on GPT-4 availability and on which plan carries white labelling, so verify what you actually get before paying
  • Your content is passed to a third party, OpenAI, named in the privacy policy. Do not train the bot on material you are not free to send outside your organisation
  • GDPR compliance is never claimed outright, and there is no DPA, no named subprocessor list and no Article 27 representative. European buyers should assess this before processing personal data
  • Cancellation is final in both directions: no refunds are ever issued, and the terms allow the company to delete all your data unrecoverably once the account ends
  • A chatbot that answers confidently is not a chatbot that answers correctly. The vendor's own changelog admits past hallucinations, so keep a human escalation path visible and review what the bot tells your customers
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low, with one prerequisite. No code needs to be written: you copy a script from the dashboard and paste it into your site's head tag, which does mean access to your code or CMS. Setup is advertised at two minutes and training averages one to two minutes. You also need content the bot can actually read, whether a public site, an XML sitemap, docs or text files. A node package install is documented as an alternative. Prompt tuning and widget styling happen in the dashboard, with no API to integrate and no server configuration.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What can Doks.ai learn from?
Website URLs, an XML sitemap, knowledge base articles, helpdesk tickets, uploaded documents and pasted text. Supported formats are Markdown, Markdoc, MDX, HTML and plain text, with AsciiDoc and reStructuredText announced for the future. There is no limit on the number of documents.
Which model does it run on?
ChatGPT. The FAQ states GPT-3.5-turbo is the default and GPT-4 is coming soon, while the pricing grid already lists GPT-4 as included on Starter and Premium and marks it Coming Soon on Ultimate and Enterprise. The site does not reconcile the two statements.
Is there a free plan?
No. The free plan was discontinued, and the FAQ attributes this to the cost of serving AI messages at scale. A seven-day trial remains, covering one chatbot, 20 message credits, 400,000 characters and one lead form, with no credit card required.
What does it cost?
Four tiers, from 19 to 399 USD per month billed monthly, or 15 to 330 USD per month billed yearly, which amounts to two months free. Prices exclude tax. No refunds are issued, partial or full, though you can cancel at any time.
How hard is it to install?
You paste a script into your site's head tag, which requires access to your code or CMS. Setup is advertised at two minutes and training averages one to two minutes. A node package installation is also documented. No API integration or server configuration is involved.
Can it handle other languages?
Yes. The bot detects the language of each question and answers in it by default, and you can force a specific language in the Base Prompt section of the Playground. The site publishes no list of supported languages.
Does it work with video or audio content?
No. Doks.ai processes text only. Videos with useful content must be transcribed into text by you before that material can be used to train the chatbot.
Who owns the data, and how long is it kept?
You retain your rights over the content you submit, while granting Doks.ai a licence to use it on and through the service. Personal data is kept no longer than three months past account termination, and after cancellation the company may delete everything, unrecoverably.
Is Doks.ai GDPR compliant?
It never says so explicitly. The privacy policy mentions the GDPR once, publishes Standard Contractual Clauses, names a Data Protection Officer and lists EEA and UK rights, but no Data Processing Agreement, subprocessor list or Article 27 representative exists.
Where is the data hosted?
The privacy policy states the company is based in the United States and its servers are located there. Data may also be transferred, stored and processed in the United Kingdom, Taiwan and other countries. No hosting provider is named.
Conclusion

Should you pick Doks.ai?

Doks.ai does one thing and describes it plainly: it turns documentation you already own into a chatbot that answers your visitors, and it puts that chatbot on your site with a single script. The pricing is fully public, the legal documents are complete and dated, the docs explain the formats and the install, and a live demo on the homepage answers questions about the product itself. For a small SaaS team or a solo founder facing the same five questions every week, the entry tier at 19 USD a month and a seven-day trial without a credit card make the evaluation cheap and quick.

What should give a buyer pause is not the product but the silence around it. The changelog stops on 12 July 2023, the footer copyright is frozen at 2024, and the legal documents have not moved since June 2023. The site contradicts itself on whether GPT-4 is available and on which plan includes white labelling. There is no registered company name, no postal address, no about or contact page, and a single email address covers support, legal and privacy questions alike. The privacy policy says the company is based in the United States while the terms point to Madhya Pradesh and the affiliate agreement to courts in Indore, India.

None of that makes the tool bad, and the trial costs nothing but an hour. It does mean you should treat Doks.ai as a small, possibly lightly maintained product rather than an enterprise commitment: test it against your own content, confirm the model actually served, and avoid it if your procurement needs a signed DPA, a named legal entity or a guaranteed roadmap.
