Flot AI
Flot AI is a desktop and web copilot that works inside any app or website. Highlight text or press a shortcut to write, rewrite, translate, summarize or reply, and save anything worth keeping to a searchable AI memory.
What is Flot AI?
Flot AI is a universal AI copilot published by Cubo World Inc., a Delaware company. Rather than asking you to open yet another chat window, it installs on Windows or macOS and layers itself over whatever you are already using: an email client, a word processor, a browser, a CRM, a code editor or a social platform. You highlight a passage and the assistant appears in place, or you press a keyboard shortcut to summon it without a selection. A web app is available for anyone who would rather not install software.
The product has two halves. The first is the copilot itself, which edits and generates text: improve writing, fix spelling and grammar, make a passage shorter or longer, change its tone, simplify it or paraphrase it, then summarize, list key takeaways, explain, find action items, translate or draft a reply. It also writes from scratch, producing blog posts, outlines, social media posts, press releases, essays, creative stories and code. More than a thousand one-click prompt templates ship with it, and paid plans add custom prompts.
The second half is AI Memory, a personal knowledge base built on the same one-click principle. You save notes, screenshots, documents and links as you meet them, with no filing or tagging required, and retrieve them later through AI-enhanced search or by conversing with your own memory.
Model access varies by plan. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are available on paid tiers, GPT-4 runs on the Windows and Mac desktop apps, and the Unlimited plan routes through Enterprise ChatGPT on Microsoft Azure with response times advertised as four times faster. More than 200 languages are supported for processing, and the site itself is published in nine.
Usage is metered in credits: one per ordinary query, one per embedding, one per five kilobytes of saved note, and nothing for a memory search. The free plan is permanent rather than a timed trial. Flot AI claims more than 720,000 professionals, a 2024 category award and backing from OpenAI's startup programme, all figures presented on its own site and not independently verifiable.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Flot AI handles your data.
GDPR overview
Flot AI devotes a page to the subject and claims compliance in plain words: "Flot.ai is fully compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation(GDPR)." The claim comes with concrete artefacts. A Data Processing Addendum is published and attached to the Terms of Service, GDPR-compliant processing agreements are said to be signed with every sub-processor, and the sub-processor list is named openly: AWS, Stripe, Apple, Google and DeepL. The privacy policy enumerates the data subject rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and objection to purely automated decisions, exercised through a Data Subject Application Form sent to contact@flot.ai. Two gaps stand against this: no Article 27 EU representative is designated and no Data Protection Officer is named, while all processing takes place in the United States.
Who owns the data?
Under the Terms of Service you warrant that you own the Input you submit, and the Data Security page states plainly that your data belongs to you and your team, is never sold or shared with anyone, and can be exported at any time. Cubo World Inc. nevertheless takes a worldwide, transferable and sub-licensable license over your content in order to operate and improve its current and future products, a purpose that explicitly includes training Flot.ai's AI. Cubo World remains the exclusive owner of the software, source code and site content themselves. The Data Processing Addendum lets the customer choose deletion or return of all personal data when the contract ends.
Reuse rights
You may reuse what Flot AI produces for you without asking permission: the Terms place ownership of the Input with you and reserve no rights over the Output. The publisher's own reuse is broader than a reader might expect. By submitting content you grant Cubo World Inc. a worldwide, transferable, multi-level sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, modify, translate, record and otherwise exploit it for the limited purpose of operating or improving existing and future products, which the Terms state includes training Flot.ai's AI. Personal data collected alongside it, including order and transaction records, marketing data, IDFA and IDVF identifiers and device logs, may be shared with third parties in the United States or abroad where legislation allows, and is handled by named sub-processors such as AWS, Stripe, Apple, Google, DeepL and Auth0. What the Terms never grant you is any right over Flot AI itself: you may not copy, rent, lend or redistribute the software.

Hosting summary
All Flot AI data is processed and hosted in the United States; the GDPR page states this without qualification and no EU or regional alternative is offered. The publisher describes physically secured data centres that are SOC 2 compliant and certified to ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018. Data is encrypted in transit over HTTPS and at rest, and sensitive material such as passwords, authentication tokens and status check-ins is never written to logs. Rotating daily backups are kept of all account data. Card details are submitted straight from the browser to a PCI Service Provider Level 1 gateway and, the vendor states, never touch its own servers. Hosts and services are monitored around the clock, software is patched regularly, and manual and automated vulnerability scans run continuously. The named sub-processors are AWS for database storage, Stripe for payments, Apple and Google for sign-in, DeepL for translation and Auth0 for authentication, each covered by a GDPR-compliant processing agreement.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Flot AI.
- Your submitted content may be used to train the vendor's AI, since the Terms permit it explicitly and no opt-out exists, so avoid pasting confidential or client material
- The content licence granted to the publisher is unusually broad: worldwide, transferable and sub-licensable across multiple levels
- A tool that writes in place, everywhere, makes it easy to send AI-drafted text you have not truly read, and accuracy remains your responsibility
- Leaning on an always-available copilot can quietly erode the habit of drafting, editing and recalling unaided
- AI Memory encourages you to store screenshots and documents in a third-party service hosted in the United States, so think before saving anything sensitive
- GDPR compliance is claimed without an Article 27 representative or a named Data Protection Officer, which weakens the route to redress for EU users
- Advertised prices are introductory and rise after the first term, so check what you will actually pay at renewal
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low. Download the installer and, on macOS, drag Flot.ai into Applications; on Windows, run Flot.exe and wait for it to finish, three documented steps either way. If you would rather not install anything, the web app runs in a browser. Signing up takes one click with a Google account. There is no API key to obtain, no server to configure and no technical knowledge required: once installed, you highlight text or press a shortcut and the copilot appears.

Should you pick Flot AI?
Flot AI answers a real irritation: the constant round trip between the document you are writing and the AI tab that helps you write it. By installing on Windows or macOS and appearing wherever you highlight text, it removes that trip almost entirely, and the AI Memory half gives it something most writing assistants lack, namely a place to put what you learn and a way to ask for it back later. Bundling ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini under one subscription that starts below the price of ChatGPT Plus is a genuine argument, and the permanent free plan means the claim can be tested at no cost.
The reservations are equally concrete. There is no mobile app and no public API, which rules out several categories of user outright. More importantly, the Terms of Service grant the publisher a broad licence over submitted content that explicitly covers training its AI, and nowhere does the site offer a way to opt out; anyone handling client or confidential material should weigh that carefully. All processing happens in the United States, GDPR compliance is asserted without an Article 27 representative or a named Data Protection Officer, and the legal documents date from 2023 and disagree on which company is actually responsible.
Set against that, the security disclosures are more detailed than most tools of this size offer, with named sub-processors, a published DPA and certified data centres. Flot AI suits individuals and small teams who write constantly in varied tools and value convenience and price over data governance. Organizations with procurement or compliance requirements will want answers on training opt-out and data residency before adopting it.
