FlowGPT
FlowGPT is a community marketplace where you chat with over a million user-made AI characters and prompts, switching freely between GPT-4o, Claude, Gemini and in-house models. A free tier is permanent; Flux credits unlock premium engines.
What is FlowGPT?
FlowGPT calls itself the best AI ChatGPT Character & Prompt Store, and the label is fair: it is part prompt library, part character-chat platform, and part creator economy. The homepage advertises more than a million characters and bots contributed by users, sorted into thirty-one categories that fall into two very different families. One is practical — Job Hunting, Academic, Business, Programming, Marketing, Image Generator, Prompt Generator, Productivity. The other is roleplay — Anime, Fantasy, Scenario, Celebrity, Lover, Parents, Siblings, plus personality tags such as Dominant, Submissive, Caring & Fluff and Toxic, and a Jailbreak DAN category the platform makes no attempt to hide.
What sets the service apart is model choice. Instead of tying you to one provider, FlowGPT exposes its own tuned models — Apollo, presented as its strongest and built for immersive roleplay, Ares for longer replies and Iris for fast, focused ones — alongside third-party engines including GPT-4o, GPT-4o Mini, Claude, Gemini, PaLM, Mixtral-8x7B, Llama and Nemomix. You can switch model mid-conversation or set a default for every bot, and adjust temperature and creativity yourself.
Usage is metered in Flux, an internal credit whose cost tracks the model: open-source engines are free, the fastest OpenAI model costs 0.5 Flux per thousand words, and the Anthropic model costs 3. Free models remain available at a zero balance, so the platform never locks you out entirely. Paid membership adds a monthly Flux allowance, unlimited chat on five featured models and enlarged conversation memory.
Around the product sits a creator economy: bounties with cash prizes, Flux tips between members, a leaderboard and paid tasks for community actions. The publisher, FlowGPT Co., is registered in Oakland, California and raised ten million dollars in a pre-Series A round led by Goodwater Capital in February 2024, claiming millions of monthly users across 110 countries at the time. The interface ships in twelve languages. Adult AI-generated content sits behind an eighteen-plus gate, and the platform describes its own moderation as light.

- Very large community catalogue covering both productive and entertainment uses
- Low paid entry point at USD 14.99 per month, cancellable at any time

- Advanced controls exposed to the user: temperature, creativity and memory

Cons
- No mention of the GDPR, no DPA and no Article 27 representative in any published document

- No formal subprocessor list, only a handful of named SDKs and integrations
- No documented way to exclude your data from model training, and no stated position on the practice
- Terms and privacy policy are dated 30 March 2024 and have not been revised since
- The terms were published with unresolved Chinese review comments, including "please fill in the overseas company name"

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how FlowGPT handles your data.
GDPR overview
There is no mention of the GDPR at all. Neither the terms of service nor the privacy policy contains the words "GDPR" or "General Data Protection Regulation", names a data protection officer, designates an Article 27 representative in the European Union, cites a legal basis for processing, or lists the usual data subject rights such as rectification, portability or objection. The policy borrows one GDPR-flavoured phrase, "rights and freedoms of natural persons", without citing the regulation behind it. The rights actually described are US ones: the Californian CCPA, with access and deletion answered within 45 days, a Nevada sale opt-out, and California's Shine the Light provisions. No standard contractual clauses or transfer safeguards are published. The interface ships in twelve locales including German, French, Italian and Spanish, so a European audience is plausible without any documented GDPR framework behind it.
Who owns the data?
You keep ownership of what you post. The terms define anything you upload as your User Submission and make you solely responsible for it, while stating that FlowGPT owns the Services themselves. Notably, the document recovered contains no explicit licence granted by you to FlowGPT over your submissions. The privacy policy says uploaded content and images are stored on the company's servers, that you may delete them at any time, and that your data will not be modified, sorted or used beyond its intended function without your consent. Comments are public by design. The company states it does not sell personal data, but reserves the right to transfer it to a third party in a merger, acquisition or bankruptcy.
Reuse rights
Reuse is deliberately narrow. Users receive a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable and non-transferable licence to download and display content locally, and only for the purpose of using the service itself. Any other reproduction, modification, distribution or storage requires prior written permission, and you may not copy, translate, publish, broadcast, sell or otherwise commercialise content you do not own without the rights holder's consent. Crawling, scraping and spidering are expressly prohibited, as is storing any significant portion of the content. Use is restricted to personal, internal, non-commercial purposes and not on behalf of a third party. Comments are an exception in the other direction: posting one implies consent for the community to view, copy, download and share it inside the platform. You can download your own submissions before closing an account.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
No hosting location is published. The privacy policy says only that uploaded content and images are "stored on our servers", naming neither a country nor a region, and no trust or security page could be reached. What can be established is jurisdictional rather than physical: the publisher, FlowGPT Co., is a US company registered in Oakland, California; the terms are governed by Californian law; and disputes go to JAMS arbitration in San Francisco County. The domain resolves behind Cloudflare on an anycast address geolocated in the United States, which identifies the CDN edge and says nothing about where data is actually stored. The policy names third-party components that process user data — a Firebase push SDK, a ClickStream analytics SDK and an attribution SDK — plus integrations with OpenAI and text-to-speech services, but publishes no formal subprocessor list. There are no standard contractual clauses and no documented international transfer safeguards.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting FlowGPT.
- Adult AI-generated content combined with self-described light moderation means you may meet material you did not go looking for
- AI girlfriend and boyfriend personas invite parasocial attachment and can make compulsive use easy to slip into
- A prominently featured Jailbreak category actively encourages working around model safeguards, with all that follows
- With no GDPR mention and no disclosed hosting country, a European user cannot tell what happens to their data
- The publisher never states whether conversations train its models, and offers no way to opt out
- Comments are public by default and posting one implies consent for the whole community to copy and share it
- Binding individual arbitration and a class action waiver apply, with only a thirty-day window to opt out
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low. FlowGPT is a web application with nothing to install, and the catalogue can be browsed before you even register. An account takes an email and password, or one click through Google. Chatting works immediately, and building your own bot requires no code. The only two things worth learning are how Flux credits are consumed and which model to pick for a given task; advanced controls such as temperature and creativity are optional and can be ignored entirely.

Should you pick FlowGPT?
FlowGPT is one of the most generous free AI platforms of its kind. The catalogue is enormous, the free tier is real rather than decorative, and the breadth of model choice — three in-house engines plus GPT-4o, Claude, Gemini, PaLM, Mixtral and Llama in one interface — is rare at this price. The Flux credit system is legible, credits roll over rather than expiring, and the creator economy of bounties and tips gives the community a genuine reason to keep contributing.
The reservations are about governance, not features. The published documents make no reference to the GDPR, name no European representative, offer no data processing agreement and disclose no hosting location. Nothing states whether user conversations feed model training, and no opt-out exists. Both legal documents are frozen at 30 March 2024, and the terms still carry unresolved Chinese review comments asking the drafters to fill in the company's name and address — which also casts doubt on the Oakland address they publish, since the homepage metadata says San Francisco and the funding announcement says Berkeley.
Add adult AI-generated content behind an eighteen-plus gate, self-described light moderation and a prominent Jailbreak category, and the picture is clear enough: FlowGPT is an excellent playground for individuals exploring prompts, characters and model comparison, and a poor fit for regulated or professional use. There are also signs the company is moving on — its LinkedIn page now reads Kaon (prev. FlowGPT), and its recent mobile apps ship under other brands. Worth using for what it does well, worth watching for where it goes next.
