Overview

What is Footprints AI?

Footprints AI is a retail media platform built by Footprints for Retail SRL, a Romanian software company based in Bucharest. It serves two audiences from the same system: advertisers who want to reach shoppers, and retailers who want to sell advertising space they may not have realised they owned.

On the advertiser side, the platform builds audiences from what people have actually bought. It ingests POS transactions, loyalty card records, in-store sensor readings, screen and radio playout logs and mobile app activity, then fuses them into behavioural segments organised around shopping missions, in-store behaviour, life stage, socio-demographics, geo-context and omnichannel journeys. A predictive layer forecasts the next thirty days of shopping missions, product needs and brand affinities, with a claimed accuracy of up to 96% that the vendor explicitly says is not guaranteed. Campaigns then run across in-store digital signage, shelf screens, store radio, checkout screens, store takeovers, retailer apps and websites, and off-site inventory including DOOH, connected TV in beta, email, SMS, WhatsApp, Meta and Google.

What sets the product apart is the closing of the loop. Instead of reporting impressions served, it connects ad playback to measured shopper exposure and then to the sales that changed afterwards, at SKU and store level, with store-level control groups and A/B tests available inside the campaign builder.

For retailers, the same stack is offered white-labelled and multi-tenant, turning a chain's stores, sites, apps and shopper data into a retail media business it runs itself.

The platform is organised into five module groups: Campaigns, Audiences, Sales and Shopper Insights, In-Store Measurement, and Leads. A conversational assistant, Footprints AI Copilot, handles planning, optimisation and real-time questions, while a Creative Studio produces images, animation and video with channel specifications applied automatically. Audiences, Ads and Reporting APIs are publicly documented, with keys issued on request.

Buyers can work self-service or hand execution to a managed services team. The home page claims 30 retailers, 65 agencies, more than 500 brands, over 50 million shoppers and more than 7,000 campaigns, concentrated in Central and Eastern Europe, with offices in Bucharest, Warsaw and Buenos Aires.

What it does

  • Build advertising audiences from real purchase behaviour rather than inferred online intent
  • Launch one campaign across in-store screens, store radio, retailer apps, websites and off-site media
  • Target down to the individual SKU, the individual store and the shopping mission
  • Measure sales impact in closed loop: ROAS, uplift, new-to-brand and basket incidence
  • Trigger delivery on live signals such as stock availability, weather and sales forecasts
  • Turn a retail network into a white-labelled retail media business the retailer operates itself
  • Ask the Footprints AI Copilot for campaign planning, optimisation and real-time retail insight

When to use Footprints AI / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Footprints AI is the right fit.

When to use Footprints AI

  • FMCG brand and category teams selling through grocery, convenience and drugstore chains
  • Non-endemic advertisers in banking, automotive, telecom or travel who want to reach shoppers inside retail environments
  • Media agencies planning and buying retail media across several retail networks at once
  • Retailers and convenience chains wanting to turn stores, apps and loyalty data into an advertising business
  • Shopping-centre and real-estate operators looking to monetise footfall and customer data

When not to use Footprints AI

  • Advertisers outside the platform's live markets, who are offered only a demo environment rather than bookable inventory
  • Small advertisers with no media budget: there is no free plan and no self-serve trial
  • Teams wanting a mobile app, since the product ships as a web platform and APIs only
  • Retailers unable or unwilling to share POS and loyalty data, without which the closed-loop measurement collapses
  • Buyers who need published contract terms before engaging, as the site carries no terms and conditions or legal notice
Get started

How to use Footprints AI

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Open the self-serve sign-up from the campaign launch page and enter your first name, last name and work email
  2. Choose your country: the platform then tells you whether your market has bookable inventory or only a demo environment
  3. Select the retail partners you want to advertise with among those offered in your market
  4. Complete the campaign details, then your phone number, company and role (CEO, marketing manager, head of media, brand manager or agency partner)
  5. Wait for the login credentials, sent by email, with one set per retailer selected
  6. Size your audience in the Audience Reach Planner and preview unique shoppers before committing any budget
  7. Build the campaign plan: dates, budget, pacing and SKU, store and audience rules, with A/B tests and store-level control groups
  8. Produce creatives in Creative Studio or upload your own, letting the platform apply each channel's specifications
  9. Set conditional targeting on live and predictive signals such as stock availability, weather or forecast sales, then launch
  10. Read media and sales metrics in campaign reporting, or automate the whole flow through the Audiences, Ads and Reporting APIs

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Targeting rests on actual purchases, using POS transactions and loyalty data instead of inferred online intent
  • Sales attribution runs down to the SKU and the individual store, with store-level control groups and A/B tests
  • One activation covers in-store, on-site and off-site media across several retailers at once
  • The rate card is published: four CPM tiers by campaign objective, which is rare in retail media
  • Data stays in the EU on Microsoft Azure West Europe, in per-client private clouds with AES-256 encryption
  • Open, publicly documented APIs and a genuine choice between self-service and fully managed execution
  • An unusually large body of named customer case studies, alongside a named DPO and data processing agreements

Cons

  • The list of live markets is never published: the sign-up flow only warns you that you may receive a demo environment instead of real inventory
  • There is no terms and conditions page and no legal notice anywhere on the site, so the contractual framework stays private
  • Pricing stops at the CPM rate card, with no minimum budget, no contract conditions, no free plan and no trial
  • The site contradicts itself on its own scale figures, which differ across three of its pages
  • Structured data declares a 2019 founding date while the Romanian trade register records registration on 9 October 2017
  • The GDPR page conflicts with the privacy statement on biometric data and appears considerably older
  • The privacy statement points to a retention schedule table and a last-updated date that do not actually appear on the page
Pricing

Pricing & Plans

Footprints AI sells advertising on a published CPM rate card rather than a software subscription. Four price points are set by campaign objective: 8 EUR CPM for awareness, 12 EUR CPM for lead generation, 16 EUR CPM for sales and 24 EUR CPM for loyalty. The lowest entry point is therefore 8 EUR per thousand impressions. Neither a permanent free plan nor a free trial is advertised, although several advertiser services are stated to be free of charge: media strategy and sales insights, media planning, campaign setup and campaign optimisation. No minimum budget is published, and there is no dedicated pricing page, the rate card being presented on the home page.

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Footprints AI handles your data.

GDPR overview

GDPR treatment is documented in unusual detail. A dedicated compliance page sets out the Article 5 principles, privacy by design and by default, the lawful bases, and the controller, processor and joint-controller split. A data protection officer is named and reachable at dpo@footprints-ai.com. Being established in Romania, the company sits inside the EU, so no Article 27 representative is required and none is named. Requests are answered within one month, extendable by two for complex cases. Data processing agreements are offered to clients and signed with every subprocessor. Transfers outside the EEA rely on standard contractual clauses and transfer impact assessments, with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework covering Google and Meta. The Romanian supervisory authority, ANSPDCP, is cited with its address. Alignment with ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 is claimed throughout.

Who owns the data?

Footprints for Retail SRL splits its role in two. It is the data controller only for a narrow set of its own data: platform login credentials, recruitment files and website interactions such as contact forms and newsletter sign-ups. For shopper and campaign data it acts as a data processor, working under the instructions of the retailer or advertiser, who remains the controller; the GDPR page additionally claims a joint-controller role for its Ecosystem Analytics activity. Shopper records are pseudonymised, using hashed identifiers, loyalty numbers and POS transactions. The company states it does not sell, rent or share personal data beyond the scope of its services or its clients' instructions.

Reuse rights

The published documents grant an end user no reuse right over the data held in the platform. Rights flow the other way: for shopper and campaign data the retailer or advertiser is the controller and decides purposes, retention and access through a data processing agreement, while Footprints AI processes strictly on instruction. Subject access requests about that data must be addressed to the client, not to the vendor, which only assists. The company does reserve some use of data for itself, listing the testing of new AI models among its processing purposes, although the detailed section attaches that research to in-house Retail Analytics trials in its own offices rather than to client data. Because the documents neither confirm nor deny training on customer data, the vendor's stance is recorded here as unclear, and no opt-out mechanism is documented anywhere.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Data is kept only as long as the stated purposes, legal obligations or client instructions require. For shopper and campaign data, where Footprints AI acts as processor, the retention period is set by the client in the data processing agreement, and clients may request earlier deletion. Once a retention period expires, data is destroyed by cryptographic erasure or overwritten in backups within thirty days, unless tax or other law requires it to be kept. Audit logs covering logins, data access and configuration changes are held for at least twelve months, and the privacy statement is reviewed at least annually. One gap is worth noting: the document refers to a retention schedule table setting out periods per operation, but no such table appears on the page, so no per-category duration is actually published.

Hosting summary

All processing and storage takes place inside the European Union, on Microsoft Azure West Europe in the Netherlands, a claim the privacy statement repeats five times. Each client sits in an isolated private cloud, with isolated virtual networks and private endpoints preventing public exposure and no cross-client access. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2 or above in transit, under role-based access control and multi-factor authentication. Penetration testing is carried out every six months and at each retailer onboarding by accredited third-party firms; audit logs are kept for at least twelve months and security incidents are reported to clients within eight hours. Employee laptops are encrypted with BitLocker or FileVault and hold no local client data. Where a provider processes data outside the EEA, standard contractual clauses and transfer impact assessments apply, with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework covering Google and Meta. Microsoft Azure is described as SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, a certification held by the subprocessor rather than by the vendor, which claims alignment with ISO 27001 and ISO 27701.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Footprints AI.

  • Availability is opaque: nothing tells you before sign-up whether your market carries real, bookable inventory
  • No contractual terms are published, so obligations, liability and notice periods stay unknown until a contract is negotiated
  • Headline results such as 5x to 8x ROAS or a 390% sales uplift come from selected case studies, not from any guaranteed service level
  • Predictive accuracy of up to 96% is explicitly presented as not guaranteed
  • Retailers hand over POS and loyalty data, yet the documents never settle whether that data may train the vendor's models, and no opt-out is offered
  • The company's own published facts disagree with each other on founding date, scale figures and biometric data collection
  • Advertising built on real purchase histories raises shopper-consent questions that fall on the retailer as controller rather than on the platform
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low for advertisers, substantial for retailers. An advertiser signs up self-service, picks a country and retail partners, and receives login credentials by email; the site promises audience, formats and budget set up in minutes with no sales call, and nothing is installed because the platform runs in a browser. A retailer, by contrast, must connect POS systems, loyalty data, in-store sensors, screens, radio and mobile apps, which is an integration project rather than a sign-up. Technical teams can bypass the interface through the Audiences, Ads and Reporting APIs, and a managed services team can run everything instead.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who is behind Footprints AI?
The platform is operated by Footprints for Retail SRL, a Romanian limited liability company trading as Footprints AI, registered at 108 Eminescu Street, 1st Floor, District 2, Bucharest. It also keeps offices in Warsaw and Buenos Aires.
How much does Footprints AI cost?
Advertising is sold on a CPM rate card by campaign objective: 8 EUR CPM for awareness, 12 EUR for lead generation, 16 EUR for sales and 24 EUR for loyalty. There is no dedicated pricing page; the rate card sits on the home page.
Is there a free plan or a free trial?
Neither is advertised. Several advertiser services are stated to be free of charge, namely media strategy and sales insights, media planning, campaign setup and campaign optimisation, but they accompany a media buy rather than forming a free tier.
Where is the data hosted?
Exclusively in the European Union, on Microsoft Azure West Europe in the Netherlands, in per-client private clouds with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.2 or above in transit.
Does Footprints AI offer an API?
Yes. Audiences, Ads and Reporting APIs are documented publicly at apidocs.footprints-ai.com, and an API key is issued on request by writing to the support address.
Is the platform available in my country?
Not necessarily. The sign-up flow checks your country and warns that it may not yet be fully live in your market, in which case you receive a demo environment with real examples and benchmarks instead of bookable inventory. The list of live markets is not published.
Which competitors does the site compare itself with?
Eleven, each on its own comparison page: Criteo, Topsort, CitrusAd, Kevel, Walmart Connect, Tesco Retail Media, Grocery TV, Unlimitail, VusionGroup, GoWit and Osmos.
Which third-party services does it integrate with?
The GDPR page names Facebook, Google and LinkedIn for remarketing and reporting, plus Telcor and Campaign Monitor for email and SMS delivery. Audience segments can also be imported from and exported to customer and data management platforms.
Is a data processing agreement available?
Yes. Data processing agreements are offered to clients and are stated to be signed with every subprocessor. Privacy questions and subject access requests go to the named data protection officer at dpo@footprints-ai.com.
Is there a mobile app?
No. Footprints AI ships as a web platform with APIs; no App Store or Google Play listing appears anywhere on the site.
Conclusion

Should you pick Footprints AI?

Footprints AI is a serious and unusually well-documented retail media platform with a clear thesis: advertising should be aimed at people whose purchases you can actually see, and judged by the sales that follow. Everything in the product serves that idea, from audiences built on POS and loyalty records to SKU- and store-level attribution with control groups. For FMCG brands, media agencies and retail chains in Central and Eastern Europe it is a credible option, and the published CPM rate card, from 8 to 24 euros by campaign objective, is a welcome piece of transparency in a market that rarely offers any.

The engineering commitments are equally concrete. Data stays in the European Union on Azure West Europe, in per-client private clouds with AES-256 encryption, six-monthly penetration testing and a named data protection officer. The Audiences, Ads and Reporting APIs are publicly documented. Dozens of named customer case studies give a buyer plenty to check.

The gaps are about paperwork and consistency rather than capability. There is no terms and conditions page and no legal notice anywhere on the site, so the contractual framework stays invisible until you negotiate. The list of live markets is never published, and the sign-up flow only warns you afterwards that you may receive a demo environment. Three pages give three different sets of scale figures. Structured data claims the company was founded in 2019 while the Romanian trade register shows registration in October 2017. The GDPR page contradicts the privacy statement on biometric data, and the retention schedule table the privacy statement promises is simply absent.

None of this undermines the product, but a buyer should ask for the contract, the live market list and the retention schedule in writing before committing budget.
