FridayGPT
FridayGPT is a native macOS app that puts ChatGPT and Claude, one-click AI actions and Whisper dictation on top of any app you are working in. Sold as a one-time purchase; cloud models require your own API keys.
What is FridayGPT?
FridayGPT presents itself as an AI copilot for your Mac: a native macOS application that sits on top of the system rather than in a browser tab, triggered by keyboard shortcut from whatever app you happen to be working in.
The product rests on three blocks. The first is one-click AI actions, advertised as "Grammar Fix, Rewrite, Format, and more... in one click", applied to text you have selected anywhere on the machine. You can build your own AI Actions without writing code, bind them to shortcuts, and also fire a one-off prompt that is never saved. The second is instant ChatGPT and Claude access, aimed at people tired of switching context to find a ChatGPT tab. The third is dictation: the site claims up to five times fewer errors than macOS dictation, with transcription and translation across more than 100 languages, punctuation and spelling included.
The economic model needs to be understood before buying. FridayGPT is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, and no ChatGPT subscription is required. What is required, for every cloud model, is your own API key from the provider you pick: OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq or Together AI. Those providers bill you directly for usage, separately from the app. The alternative is to run local models through Ollama or LM Studio, which work offline and cost nothing in API fees. Transcription can likewise use the OpenAI Whisper API, a local Whisper, Deepgram or Groq, on both Intel and Apple silicon Macs.
Prerequisites are narrow: macOS 13.4 or later, Mac only. The app is distributed outside the Mac App Store, as a .dmg through GitHub Releases, with Gumroad as an alternative purchase channel. The home page claims more than 1,100 users and carries nine named testimonials, from product designers and startup founders to an associate professor and enterprise staff.
Behind the product is Zeitalabs, a studio founded in June 2023 by Naveen Naidu, which also publishes AudioBuddy, ScreenTime+ and OpenformStack.

When to use FridayGPT / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if FridayGPT is the right fit.
When to use FridayGPT
- Heavy Mac writers who move between mail, chat, notes and code all day and want AI editing inside whatever app is already open
- People who would rather speak than type, including users with accessibility needs, which the publisher devotes a dedicated blog post to
- Developers, founders and CTOs who already hold OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq or Together AI API keys and want to reuse them instead of paying for another subscription
- Privacy-minded or frequently offline users who want local LLMs through Ollama or LM Studio and on-device Whisper transcription
- Buyers who refuse recurring subscriptions and prefer a perpetual licence bought once, covering one to three Macs
When not to use FridayGPT
- Anyone not on a Mac, or on a Mac below macOS 13.4: there is no Windows, Linux, iOS or Android version, and the FAQ rules out earlier macOS releases explicitly
- Users unwilling to open accounts with AI providers and paste API keys, which is mandatory for every cloud model
- Teams needing SSO, central administration or pooled billing: licences are sold per device, for one, two or three machines, with no team features
- Developers who want to call the tool programmatically, since FridayGPT exposes no API of its own
- Regulated buyers who require a DPA, a sub-processor list, a GDPR statement or a security certification before deployment, none of which the site publishes
How to use FridayGPT
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Check the prerequisite: macOS 13.4 or later, on an Intel or Apple silicon Mac
- Pick a plan on the pricing page according to how many machines you need to cover: Personal for one, Pro for two, Trio for three
- Pay once through Stripe; prices are shown in USD and VAT may be added
- Receive your licence key by email; buyers who went through Gumroad find it in their Gumroad account instead
- Download the .dmg from the site's Download button, which points to GitHub Releases, and install the app
- Activate the app with your licence key; the site's licence page can find your keys again from your purchase email address
- Enter your own API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq or Together AI to use cloud models
- Or install Ollama or LM Studio to run local models instead, with no key and no API cost
- Set your keyboard shortcuts and create the AI Actions you want, with no coding required
- Select text in any app and trigger an action, or use the dictation shortcut and speak to get a Whisper transcription
Pros & Cons
Pros
- One-time purchase from 39 USD with no subscription: the app stays yours for life
- No ChatGPT subscription needed; you bring your own API keys and the providers bill you directly, so usage cost stays visible
- A fully free, offline path through Ollama once the licence is bought, with no key and no API bill
- Conversations are not stored by the publisher: messages go straight to the AI provider you chose, or never leave the Mac with local models
- Native macOS app, available on top of every other application and driven from the keyboard
- You choose the model and the transcription engine task by task, rather than being locked to one vendor
- Transcription and translation across more than 100 languages, on both Intel and Apple silicon Macs
Cons
- macOS only, and macOS 13.4 at minimum: no Windows, no Linux, no mobile version
- API keys are mandatory for every cloud model: extra setup, and an uncapped usage bill charged separately by the providers
- No permanent free plan and no free trial announced, so the licence has to be bought before you can judge the app
- Only one year of updates is included; receiving updates beyond that requires a paid renewal, although the app keeps working without it
- Release cadence has clearly slowed: the latest published build is v0.34, dated 15 July 2025, against the monthly target stated in the FAQ, while the footer still reads 2024, the last blog post dates from 6 October 2024 and the privacy policy from 8 May 2023
- A very thin legal frame: no legal-notice page, no postal address, no registered company name, no GDPR mention, no DPA, no sub-processor list and no certification, with a governing-law clause left unfinished as "governed by the laws of in"
- No team features, since licences are per device with no SSO or central administration, no API of its own, distribution outside the Mac App Store, and support resting on a single personal mailbox
Pricing & Plans
There is no free plan and no free trial: a licence key must be purchased before the application can be activated. The lowest entry point is a one-time payment of 39.00 USD for the Personal plan, covering a single device. Prices are displayed in USD and VAT may apply; payment is processed by Stripe. API usage with the AI providers is not included in that price and is billed directly by them, although running local models through Ollama incurs no such charge.
- supports one device
- includes the app for life
- a licence key and one year of updates
- supports 2 devices
- marked as the most popular plan
- with the same lifetime app
- licence key and year of updates
- supports 3 devices
- with the same lifetime app
- licence key and year of updates
Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how FridayGPT handles your data.
GDPR overview
There is no mention of the GDPR anywhere on the site. Across every page collected, from the privacy policy to the terms, FAQ and pricing, the words GDPR, CCPA, DPO, DPA and sub-processor never appear: the publisher neither claims compliance nor denies it. There is no section on data-subject rights in the GDPR sense, meaning access, portability, objection or restriction, no legal basis for processing, no Article 27 EU representative, no data protection officer, and no certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001. The only rights described are updating and deleting your personal data. International transfers are mentioned, but with no named mechanism, no standard contractual clauses and no adequacy decision, only a general promise of adequate controls. The publisher declares itself based in Andhra Pradesh, India, outside the EU, and its privacy policy, produced by a generator, was last updated on 8 May 2023.
Who owns the data?
The published documents cover the website, not the application: the terms are a generated website notice, and no end-user licence agreement exists for the app. Under the privacy policy last updated on 8 May 2023, the company, named FridayGPT and located in Andhra Pradesh, India, collects your email address, your first and last name and usage data, alongside TelemetryDeck analytics it declares anonymised. It may share that data with service providers, affiliates and business partners, in a merger or sale, or with your consent. Conversations, according to the FAQ, go straight to the AI providers under your own keys. No clause claims ownership of the text you generate or dictate.
Reuse rights
Nothing in the published terms restricts what you do with the text FridayGPT helps you write, rewrite or transcribe: the document governs the website's own materials only. Its permission clause allows you to download one copy of those website materials for personal, non-commercial, transitory viewing, and forbids modifying them, reverse-engineering the software or mirroring them elsewhere. There is no clause claiming rights over the app's output, and none expressly granting them either: commercial reuse of what you produce is simply left unaddressed. In practice the output comes from third-party models, OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Together AI or Ollama, whose own terms govern it and which the site never cites. The licence you buy is per device, one, two or three depending on the plan, and the app stays yours after purchase. Note that the governing-law clause of the terms was left unfinished, reading "governed by the laws of in".

Hosting summary
The website and the data have different answers. Hosting of the site is measurable: the pages are served from Vercel, and the domain resolves to 216.150.16.193, an anycast address geolocated in the United States on Amazon's AS16509 network. Hosting of user data is not documented at all. No hosting country or region is named in the privacy policy, the terms or anywhere else. The privacy policy says only that information is processed at the company's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located, and it states that transfers outside your own jurisdiction may occur, with consent deemed given by using the service. The publisher declares its jurisdiction as Andhra Pradesh, India. Conversations, according to the FAQ, are not hosted by the publisher at all: they go to the AI provider whose key you supplied, or never leave the Mac when local models are used. Analytics run through TelemetryDeck, declared anonymised, and site audience through Plausible, with no location given for either.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting FridayGPT.
- Your prompts and the text you select leave for OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq or Together AI under your own keys: those providers' policies govern what happens next, and the site never cites them
- The app needs access to the text you select in every application, which is a wide permission to grant a small third-party tool installed as a .dmg from outside the Mac App Store; check where the binary comes from
- API costs are uncapped and billed to you directly by the providers, independently of the price you paid for the app, so a heavy month lands entirely on your account
- No GDPR mention, no DPA, no sub-processor list and no certification: professional use on sensitive or client data deserves an assessment before deployment
- The governing-law clause of the terms is unfinished and names no jurisdiction, no country restriction is published anywhere on the site, and the publisher is a solo operator with no postal address or registered company name: contractual recourse in a dispute would be thin
- Update cadence has slowed since July 2025, and a tool hooked this deeply into macOS can drift out of step with system updates and provider API changes
- One-click correction and dictation are easy to trust blindly: transcription errors slip through unread, and leaning on automatic grammar fixes can quietly erode your own attention to language
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Installation is easy: download the .dmg, open it and activate with the licence key emailed after purchase, though macOS will ask you to authorise a binary from outside the App Store, and macOS 13.4 or later is required. The real friction is configuration, since every cloud model needs an API key, which means holding an account and a payment method with OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq or Together AI. The local route through Ollama or LM Studio asks a little more, as you install the runtime and download a model. No development skills are needed: AI Actions are built without code.

Should you pick FridayGPT?
FridayGPT is a narrow tool, and it knows it. It does not try to be a general assistant: it makes text and voice faster on macOS, everywhere in the system, and stops there. If you write all day across mail, chat, notes and code, that focus is the point.
Its economics run against the market. Where almost everything is subscription-priced, FridayGPT is a one-time purchase between 39 and 79 USD, depending on whether you cover one, two or three Macs. The trade-off is explicit: you bring your own API keys, so usage cost is transparent but uncapped and on your account, with a setup step before the first result. For anyone who would rather avoid that entirely, the Ollama route runs local models offline, with no key and no API bill: a real privacy argument, not a marketing one.
What you have to accept is a very light legal frame. The terms and the privacy policy come from generators, cover the website rather than the app, and contain no GDPR mention, no DPA, no postal address and a governing-law clause that was never finished. For personal use that is a shrug; for a regulated deployment it is a stop sign.
Maintenance is the other reservation. This is a solo publisher's product, Zeitalabs, founded in 2023, and the latest build dates from 15 July 2025, against the monthly update target stated in the FAQ. The site is live and the licence still on sale, but the cadence has slowed.
The mitigating detail is the purchase model itself: because the app is bought outright and keeps working after the first year, a slowdown freezes your updates rather than cutting off your access. That makes FridayGPT a reasonable bet for an individual Mac user, and a harder one for an organisation.
