Gamma
Gamma turns a prompt, an outline or an imported file into polished presentations, websites, documents, graphics and social posts. Built for marketers, consultants and teachers with no design skills, it exports to PowerPoint, PDF and Google Slides.
What is Gamma?
Gamma is an AI design workspace built around the promise printed on its home page: effortless AI design for presentations, websites, and more. Rather than one narrow generator, the company ships six product surfaces driven by the same engine, Presentations, Websites, Social Media, Documents, Graphics and an API, so a single piece of raw material can leave as a deck, a hosted site, a report, a carousel or a set of on-brand images.
The workflow advertised on the site has three beats. Generate takes an idea, a pasted outline or a file you already have, routes it through more than twenty AI models chosen automatically, and dresses it in one of over a hundred themes or in your own imported brand kit. Shape is the editing pass: smart layouts, enriched content, built-in translation, image generation and real-time collaboration with the rest of the workspace. Share is the exit: export to PPT, PDF, PNG or Google Slides, publish as a website or a social post, hand over a link, and read the engagement metrics that come back.
Scale is part of the pitch. Gamma claims more than 100 million users, a million creations a day, 100 million dollars of annual recurring revenue and a 2.1 billion dollar valuation. Generation works in more than sixty languages, and you can prompt in the language you want to read.
The economics run on credits: one to three per text card, two to fifteen for a standard image and thirty to a hundred and twenty-five for an ultra one. The Free plan caps a generation at ten slides and fifty thousand input tokens, while Plus, Pro and Ultra push that to seventy-five slides and a hundred thousand tokens.
Developers get a REST API covering generations, images, themes, folders, analytics and export, plus an MCP server and OAuth, while the native Claude and ChatGPT connectors work on every plan, Free included. iOS, from version 16.4 and also on iPad and Apple silicon Macs, and Android apps are published. Behind it sits Gamma Tech, Inc. in San Francisco, which claims SOC 2 Type II and runs a Trust Center. The domain dates from August 2020 and the first web archive capture from April 2021.

When to use Gamma / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Gamma is the right fit.
When to use Gamma
- Consultants and strategists who have to turn research into a client-ready deck before a deadline
- Marketing and social teams producing on-brand content for several channels from the same material
- Sales and revenue teams building pitch decks, one-pagers and follow-up microsites
- Teachers, trainers and instructional designers assembling lesson decks and course material
- Automation-first teams and developers generating decks and documents through the API, the MCP connectors or Zapier, Make.com and n8n
When not to use Gamma
- Buyers who need a published price before signing up: no amount appears in the static pricing page, only after JavaScript rendering
- Teams pasting confidential material on an individual plan, where content feeds AI training until the opt-out is switched on
- Organisations bound to European data residency: hosting and subprocessors sit mainly in the United States and no EU option is published
- People who need to work offline: there is no native desktop application and no browser extension, only the web app and the mobile apps
- Anyone under 16, who the terms of service bar from creating an account
How to use Gamma
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Create an account from the sign-up page; Gamma states that no credit card is required
- Choose what you want to make: a presentation, a website, a document, a social post or a graphic
- Feed the engine with a free-form prompt, a structured outline, or an imported PDF, PPTX or existing document
- Pick one of the 100+ themes, or import your own brand kit
- Run the generation, capped at 10 cards on Free and up to 75 on the paid plans
- Refine with the AI: smart layouts, enriched content, translation and image generation
- Collaborate in real time with your team inside a shared workspace
- Set visibility: every project is private by default, then shared with the workspace, with named individuals or publicly
- Publish or export to PPT, PDF, PNG, Google Slides, a hosted site or a custom domain, then read the engagement analytics, detailed from Pro upwards
- For the developer route, create an API key in the account settings on Pro, Ultra, Teams or Business, authenticate third-party apps through OAuth, or drive Gamma from the Claude and ChatGPT MCP connectors
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Five output formats from the same raw material: deck, website, document, social post and graphic
- A first draft that is presentable without a manual layout pass
- A permanent free plan with no credit card required
- Exports to the standard formats, PPTX, PDF and Google Slides, so the deliverable is never locked in
- Documented public API and MCP server, plus native Claude and ChatGPT connectors that work from the Free plan
- Generation in more than 60 languages, with published iOS and Android apps and a claimed scale of 100M+ users and a million creations a day
- Compliance transparency: public subprocessor list, published DPA, named Article 27 EU representative, SOC 2 Type II, and a training opt-out on every plan with automatic exclusion on Team and Business
Cons
- No price appears in the static HTML of the pricing page: the amounts are only rendered through JavaScript
- AI training is on by default on the individual Free, Plus, Pro and Ultra plans, and the opt-out is left to the user
- The Free plan caps a generation at 10 slides and its credits do not renew; they can only be topped up through referrals, at 200 credits each
- API access is reserved for the Pro, Ultra, Teams and Business plans
- Credit consumption is variable, up to 125 credits for a single ultra image, and is acknowledged as subject to change
- No native desktop application and no browser extension: the tool is web or mobile only
- Hosting and subprocessors sit mainly in the United States, with no published EU data residency option
Pricing & Plans
Gamma operates on a freemium basis. A permanent free tier is available and includes, in the publisher's own words, a starter pack of AI credits; the pricing page displays No credit card required. The paid entry point is the Plus plan, followed by Pro and Ultra for individuals and by Teams and Business for organisations. No amount and no currency are published in any static first-party source: the pricing page injects its figures through JavaScript, and neither the help centre, nor the App Store listing, nor the iTunes lookup API exposes them. This record therefore leaves the starting price, the currency and the billing unit empty rather than estimating them. What is documented is the structure: billing is per user, so that two users on the monthly Pro plan are billed double; annual plans carry a 28% discount over monthly ones for the same monthly credits; and additional credits can be bought individually or through automatic top-up in the billing settings.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Gamma handles your data.
GDPR overview
Implementation is concrete rather than declarative: Gamma never writes the words GDPR compliant, but the privacy policy carries a dedicated Notice to European Users covering the EEA and the UK, and names Gamma as the controller. An Article 27 representative is appointed for the EU, Data Protection Representative Limited trading as DataRep, gamma@datarep.com, Altmarkt 10 B/D, Dresden 01067, Germany, with a separate UK representative at 107-111 Fleet Street, London EC4A 2AB. The legal bases are listed: contractual necessity, legitimate interests, legal obligation and consent. A data processing addendum is published with standard contractual clauses and annexes, alongside a public subprocessor list you can subscribe to through legal@gamma.app. Privacy requests go to privacy@gamma.app. International transfers to the United States are acknowledged and SOC 2 Type II is claimed. No effective date is readable in the static policy.
Who owns the data?
Gamma's terms state plainly that Gamma does not claim ownership of Your Content (4.3). In exchange, clause 4.4 grants Gamma a fully paid, royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable licence to use that content to operate and provide the service, including support and debugging, and extends a licence to the collaborators you invite, who may use, modify and display it according to your account settings. Gamma owns the platform, its code and its themes (4.1), and any feedback you send carries a perpetual, irrevocable licence (4.6). Prompts, usage and metrics are analysed to improve the service (4.7). You hold no ownership right in the account itself (2.4), and Gamma acts as controller under the GDPR.
Reuse rights
Your creations leave Gamma without asking anyone: every project exports to PPT, PDF, PNG or Google Slides, and can be published as a hosted website, a social post or a shareable link. Paid plans map custom domains, up to ten on Pro and up to a hundred on Ultra, and remove the Made with Gamma badge from Plus upwards. Every project is private by default, and you decide whether to open it to your workspace, to named individuals or to the public. An existing piece can be reused internally as the starting point for a new one, and the API generates, exports to PDF or PPTX, archives and deletes programmatically. The limits are on behaviour rather than on reuse: clause 5 of the terms forbids infringing, unlawful, spam and scraping uses, and the Acceptable Use Policy is incorporated by reference.

Hosting summary
No page names a hosting country in its own right; the picture comes from the public subprocessor list. Amazon Web Services for hosting and storage, Google for hosting, application logging and AI services, and Vercel for infrastructure are all listed in the United States, as are Snowflake for warehousing and ClickHouse for analytics. Cloudflare handles content distribution, security and DNS globally, and the domain resolves to 104.18.10.200, a Cloudflare anycast address geolocated in the United States. A few subprocessors sit elsewhere: Iframely in Canada, Leonardo in Australia, Boldr in the United States and the Philippines, Hire Horatio in the United States and the Dominican Republic, Philo Labs and Birdie in the EU. The jurisdiction is American. The terms state that the services are controlled and offered by Gamma from its facilities in the United States of America, and the privacy policy warns that personal information may be transferred to the United States or other locations where privacy laws may not be as protective. The published DPA carries standard contractual clauses for transfers out of the EU, and SOC 2 Type II is claimed. No EU data residency option is published.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Gamma.
- AI training is on by default on the individual plans: anything confidential you paste into Gamma feeds the models unless you switch the opt-out on first
- The terms are explicit, stating that you have no expectation of privacy concerning the transmission of Your Content on or through the Services (clause 3.2)
- One-click publishing cuts both ways: a deck meant for internal use can go public through a single wrong sharing setting
- A first draft that looks good enough to present invites you to ship it without fact-checking what the model wrote or the synthetic images it produced
- Leaning on the tool for structure and design erodes those skills over time, because the layout thinking is delegated rather than learned
- Credit consumption is variable and acknowledged as subject to change, which makes budgets hard to anticipate
- The processing chain is long and distributed across many AI subprocessors (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, Perplexity, Runway and others); you hold no ownership right in the account itself (clause 2.4) and termination can delete the associated content (clause 14.5)
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low for everyday use. Gamma is entirely web-based, with iOS and Android apps, so nothing is installed: create an account, no credit card, and the first generation runs from a single prompt. No coding or design skill is required. The advanced route asks a little more: an API key from the account settings on Pro, Ultra, Teams or Business, or OAuth. The API is asynchronous, posting to the generations endpoint then polling for the result. The Claude and ChatGPT MCP connectors need no key at all, and Zapier, Make.com, n8n and Workato cover no-code automation.

Should you pick Gamma?
Gamma answers a narrow but real problem: getting from a rough idea to something presentable without opening a layout tool. One prompt, one outline or one imported file becomes a deck, a hosted website, a document, a set of on-brand graphics or a social post, and it leaves in the formats everyone else already uses, PPTX, PDF, PNG and Google Slides. That absence of lock-in is the strongest argument in its favour.
The rest of the verified case is solid. The free plan is permanent and needs no card. Generation runs in more than sixty languages. There is a documented REST API, an MCP server and native Claude and ChatGPT connectors that work even on Free. Compliance is unusually legible: a published DPA with standard contractual clauses, a public list of subprocessors, a named Article 27 representative in Germany and a SOC 2 Type II claim.
The reservations are just as concrete. No price is published in any static source, so you cannot compare offers before creating an account. AI training is on by default on the individual plans and the opt-out is yours to find. The API starts at Pro. Hosting and subprocessors are essentially American, with no EU residency option published.
Scale suggests the product has found its audience: Gamma claims more than 100 million users, a million creations a day, 100 million dollars in annual recurring revenue and a 2.1 billion dollar valuation, and Gamma Tech, Inc. has held the domain since 2020. Gamma itself names PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, Beautiful.ai, Tome, SlidesAI and PowerPoint Copilot as its comparison set.
Worth the detour if you produce a lot of visual material under deadline and can live with American hosting, provided you switch the training opt-out on before pasting anything confidential.
