GetResponse
GetResponse is a Polish email marketing and lifecycle automation platform that combines newsletters, autoresponders, visual workflows, landing pages, websites, webinars and online courses in a single B2B account, with AI generators for emails, campaigns and sites.
What is GetResponse?
GetResponse is a SaaS email marketing and customer lifecycle automation platform published by GetResponse S.A. in Gdansk, Poland. Its origin goes back to 1997, when founder Simon Grabowski released one of the first autoresponders; the company was founded in Poland in 1998 and the getresponse.com domain was registered the same year. The product timeline on the about page runs from the smart autoresponder in 2000 to marketing automation in 2016, Conversion Funnel in 2019, the website builder and the permanent free plan in 2021, AI recommendations and ecommerce automation in 2022, and the AI Email Generator and AI Campaign Generator in 2023. The publisher says it builds its own sending infrastructure and invests heavily in deliverability.
The platform is organised in four blocks. List growth covers forms, popups, landing pages, a website builder and conversion funnels. Communication covers newsletters, autoresponders, visual automation workflows, web push and SMS. Selling covers ecommerce integrations, popups, promo codes, AI product recommendations and paid advertising. Knowledge monetisation covers an AI course creator, premium newsletters, a creator profile and webinars. The AI layer runs on third-party technology: OpenAI for the generators, Azure OpenAI for the course creator assistant.
GetResponse claims more than 350,000 customers (400,000+ on its support page), 99% deliverability across 160+ countries, 150 to 170+ integrations, five-star rated 24/7 support and 25+ years of experience. Developers get a public REST API v3 at api.getresponse.com/v3 with webhooks, callbacks and dynamic content, plus separate endpoints for the MAX platform. Three mobile apps are published for iOS and Android: GetResponse App, GetResponse Chats and GetResponse Webinars.
The Enterprise tier, GetResponse MAX, adds a dedicated IP and sending domain, SSO, unlimited users, SMS, mobile push, AI recommendations, transactional emails, a dedicated Customer Experience Manager and paid Professional Services. The service is declared business-to-business only in the terms, which are governed by Polish law. The site and interface are offered in ten languages, with human email support in seven. Published case studies are quantified: Med&Beauty reports $43,000 from ten emails, DAAG €16,500 from a single email, Würth Group +72% revenue, Eveline Cosmetics $13,000 on one campaign, and Pako Lorente $49,000 a month from recommendations.

When to use GetResponse / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if GetResponse is the right fit.
When to use GetResponse
- Small and mid-sized businesses that want email, automation and landing pages in one account instead of stitching several tools together
- Online stores running revenue campaigns: abandoned cart recovery, promo codes, product recommendations and revenue reporting
- Creators monetising knowledge through AI-built online courses, quizzes, certificates, premium newsletters and a creator profile on GetResponse HUB
- Non-technical marketers who need drag-and-drop email, page and website editors, visual workflow building and ready-made templates
- Agencies and large senders needing multi-user accounts, the agency partner programme, or the Enterprise (MAX) tier with dedicated IP, SSO and SMS
When not to use GetResponse
- Individuals signing up for personal, non-professional purposes: the terms of service restrict the offer to business use, and the stated minimum age is 18
- Teams that need SMS marketing outside Poland, since the SMS service is reserved for customers located in Poland and for paid accounts, with no MMS
- Starter-plan buyers expecting heavy AI use or elaborate automation: AI generators are capped at three uses and only one automation workflow is allowed
- Anyone hoping to run a real business on the free plan alone: 1 landing page, 500 contacts, 2,500 newsletters a month, a GetResponse badge on messages, and no paid courses or subscriptions
- Organisations that require a documented opt-out from AI processing or a published platform hosting location before entrusting sensitive data
How to use GetResponse
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Create a free account from the start-free page: no credit card is asked for
- Verify the account, which is required before the full feature set can be tested
- Use the first 14 days, which unlock the premium features; without an upgrade the account then falls back to the free version
- Import or capture contacts through forms, popups, landing pages or a store integration, then tag, score and segment them
- Compose a first campaign in the drag-and-drop email editor, or let the AI email, subject line or campaign generator draft it
- Publish landing pages, a website or a conversion funnel with the no-code builders and prebuilt templates
- Automate the sequence in the visual workflow builder: welcome series, abandoned cart recovery, web event triggers
- Upgrade from Profile > Upgrade account: pick Starter, Marketer or Creator, pick the list size from 1k to 100k, enter billing details, then choose monthly or 12 months prepaid
- For Enterprise, book a demo, discuss requirements with an expert and receive a tailored offer; a 30-day pilot programme is available
- Connect the REST API when needed: generate an X-Auth-Token key in the account (it expires after 90 days of inactivity), then use GET, POST and DELETE with Content-Type application/json on POST
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Unusually broad suite under one account: email, automation, landing pages, websites, webinars, courses, ecommerce and advertising
- Unlimited monthly sends on every paid plan, plus a permanent free plan with 500 contacts and 2,500 newsletters a month and no credit card
- 14-day trial of the premium features, with no commitment
- Claimed 99% deliverability across 160+ countries, on in-house sending infrastructure with the Hydra antispam platform running since 2014
- European publisher under the GDPR: published DPA with a named subprocessor list, PCI DSS certification, TLS 1.2+ and AES-256 encryption
- 24/7 support with human email in seven languages, live chat in English and Polish, a round-the-clock chatbot and a stated chat response under 60 seconds
- Documented public REST API, more than 150 integrations, 18% off annual billing and 50% off for charities and NGOs
Cons
- Displayed prices depend on geolocation, the same page serving EUR or USD amounts, and the entry price also moves with list size, which the headline grid does not show
- AI generators are capped at three uses and automation is limited to a single workflow on the Starter plan
- The most advanced capabilities — SMS, mobile push, AI product recommendations, transactional emails, SSO, dedicated IP — are Enterprise-only, at a quote-based price
- SMS is restricted to customers located in Poland, on paid accounts only, and there is no MMS
- Downgrading a plan cannot be done alone: it goes through a support ticket or LiveChat
- No platform hosting country is published, and no legal or GDPR email address exists — both channels run through web forms
- No setting lets a customer exclude their data from AI model training, and anything typed into the AI features leaves for third-party providers, which is why the terms ask customers to keep personal data out of them
Pricing & Plans
GetResponse operates on a freemium model. A permanent free plan is available at no cost, limited to 1 landing page, 500 contacts and 2,500 newsletters per month, and a 14-day trial opens the premium features without a credit card. The lowest paid entry point is the Starter plan at €13.12 per month on a 12-month prepaid commitment, or €16 per month billed monthly, for a 1,000-contact list; Marketer starts at €44.28 per month annually (€54 monthly) and Creator at €50.84 per month annually (€62 monthly). Enterprise, sold as GetResponse MAX, is quote-based and requires a demo. Amounts are exclusive of tax, scale with list size from 1,000 to 100,000 contacts, and the annual commitment carries an announced 18% discount. Billing is automatic, recurring and charged in advance, on a monthly or 12-month period, with a 24-month option added for Enterprise. Prices served on the site vary by currency: the same pricing page also advertises entry points in US dollars.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how GetResponse handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is concrete and documented. GetResponse S.A. is established in Gdansk, Poland, so the regulation applies directly and no Article 27 representative is required or appointed. The security page states: “We are fully compliant with the GDPR.” A Data Protection Officer is named, Marianna Kozlicka, reachable through the privacy support form or by post to the registered office. A Data Processing Agreement is published and forms part of the terms: Annex 2 details technical and organisational measures, Annex 3 names every subprocessor with address, purpose, scope and processing location. Transfers outside the EEA rely on adequacy decisions or on published Standard Contractual Clauses, Brazilian SCCs included; Google LLC is covered by the Data Privacy Framework and SCCs. All data subject rights are listed and exercised free of charge. The supervisory authority is the President of Poland’s Personal Data Protection Office. Privacy policy effective 19 June 2026.
Who owns the data?
Section VII of the terms states that GetResponse claims no ownership of customer Content, including Creator's Content: the customer, or the page visitor or course participant where applicable, retains all right, title and interest. Materials GetResponse supplies, such as Multimedia Studio assets and templates, are excluded. The publisher acts as controller for its own users and as processor for the contact data entrusted to it. Uploaded files are stored on its servers and, per the privacy policy, not used for its own purposes nor shared with any third party. Customers do accept that their landing pages may be reused in GetResponse marketing materials and case studies. At contract end, the DPA offers deletion or return of the personal data.
Reuse rights
Customers keep free use of the content and contact data they bring in: nothing in the terms requires permission to export, reuse or delete it, and the DPA lets the customer choose deletion or return at contract end. On its own side, GetResponse processes data as controller for account, service, marketing and contact purposes, citing contract performance (Art. 6.1(b)), legitimate interest (Art. 6.1(f)), consent (Art. 6.1(a)) and legal obligation (Art. 6.1(c)), and as processor for the contacts a customer entrusts to it. Recipient categories cover hosting, webinars, support, security, diagnostics, marketing analytics (Google), recruitment, payment, law firms, debt collection and analytics or AI vendors. The publisher states it neither sells nor rents personal data, and that passwords are stored encrypted and beyond its own reach. Feedback is analysed automatically by AI and machine learning tools to detect issues, topics and trends. Anything typed into the AI features is sent to third-party providers — OpenAI, and Azure OpenAI for the course creator — and the terms ask customers not to enter personal or confidential data there. Data obtained through Google Workspace APIs is not used to develop, improve or train generalised AI models.

Hosting summary
No hosting country or region is announced for the platform itself. The privacy policy only states that recipients of transferred data are based mainly in the European Economic Area (EEA), which describes recipients rather than hosting. Annex 3 of the DPA is more precise, subprocessor by subprocessor: ClickMeeting Sp. z o.o. (Gdansk) for webinars, processing in France, Germany and Poland; Google Cloud Poland sp. z o.o. (Warsaw) for chats, processing in the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland; Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited (Dublin) for the course creator AI, processing within the EEA; Vonage Business Inc. (Holmdel, New Jersey) for SMS, processing in the EU, Singapore, Australia and the United States. Transfers outside the EEA rely on an adequacy decision or on the Standard Contractual Clauses published by GetResponse. Google LLC (USA) is named as a recipient for marketing and analytics, covered by the Data Privacy Framework and SCCs. GetResponse states it runs its own sending infrastructure, and the site's public IP is announced by AS46469 GETRESPONSE. Security measures include TLS 1.2+ in transit, AES-256 at rest, centrally managed and rotated keys, and segregated production and corporate environments.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting GetResponse.
- Price surprises: the amounts shown depend on the currency served to the visitor, EUR on one visit and US dollars in the same page's own meta description, and on the list size from 1,000 to 100,000 contacts — check the real figure at checkout
- The 18% annual discount requires paying twelve months in advance, and moving back to monthly billing or downgrading a plan can only be done through support
- Confidentiality: whatever is typed into the AI features is sent to third-party providers, and the terms explicitly ask customers not to enter personal or confidential data there
- Over-reliance on the generators: emails, subject lines, entire campaigns, websites and courses can be produced in a few clicks, which makes it easy to publish text nobody has genuinely reviewed — and on Starter those generators stop after three uses, a limit only the comparison table shows
- A free account is deactivated after 90 consecutive days without use, leaving 30 days to have it restored
- The service is reserved for professionals: the terms exclude subscriptions for personal purposes, and the declared minimum age is 18
- Data location is not fully knowable: no hosting country is published for the platform, only subprocessor locations in Annex 3 of the DPA, and SMS remains limited to customers located in Poland
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low for everyday use. Signing up takes minutes, needs no credit card and only account verification. Emails, landing pages and websites are built in drag-and-drop editors, automation runs in a visual workflow builder with prebuilt templates, store integrations connect in one click, and an AI assistant can generate a site, a landing page or a full campaign. Guided onboarding and migration are offered. Moderate for the technical layer: custom DKIM, sending domain, dedicated IP on Enterprise, and API setup with an X-Auth-Token key. Support runs 24/7, with an academy and a help centre.

Should you pick GetResponse?
GetResponse is one of the most complete marketing suites a small or mid-sized team can buy without stacking several tools. Twenty-five years of continuity, in-house sending infrastructure and a claimed 99% deliverability across 160+ countries put it on solid operational ground, and its European base makes GDPR compliance structural rather than promised: a published DPA, a named subprocessor list, a designated data protection officer, PCI DSS certification and modern encryption. The company is privately held and, according to public sources, self-funded by its founder.
Value for money is strongest for businesses that genuinely use the breadth. When email, automation, landing pages, a website, webinars, online courses and ecommerce campaigns all live in the same account, the Marketer or Creator plan replaces several subscriptions. When only newsletters are needed, that breadth is paid for and left unused.
Three reservations deserve attention before signing. The Starter plan is deliberately narrow, with three AI generations and one automation workflow, so the realistic entry point for an active team is Marketer or above. The most advanced capabilities — SMS, mobile push, AI product recommendations, transactional emails, SSO and a dedicated IP — sit behind a quote-based Enterprise tier. And the displayed price moves with the currency served and with the list size, so the figure on the pricing page is rarely the figure invoiced.
Two structural gaps remain: no hosting country is published for the platform itself, and no setting lets a customer keep their data out of AI processing by third-party providers. Teams weighing options will find GetResponse measured by its own publisher against Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, AWeber and Constant Contact.
