Glide
GlideOS is an AI software development platform that turns a spreadsheet, a prompt or a file into internal business apps, with no code. Built for operations, IT and business teams, it claims 100,000+ organizations, 1,045 integrations and 400+ templates.
What is Glide?
Glide is the brand of typeguard, Inc., and it now spans two separate platforms: GlideOS, the newer AI-driven product, and Glide Classic, the original no-code app builder. GlideOS presents itself as an AI software development platform for building internal business software from a spreadsheet, a prompt, or a file. The pitch is a compression of time: what took months in code and weeks in no-code is meant to take minutes.
The company's own account of its origins begins in late 2018, when co-founder and CEO David Siegel came together with Jason, Mark and Antonio; "In 2019, we began building Glide". The founding bet was that the spreadsheet is the most popular programming tool in the world, and that adding a design layer on top of it would produce genuinely interactive apps. Usage exploded in 2020, reaching hundreds of thousands of people with no coding skills. Glide now claims more than 100,000 organizations, from small businesses to Fortune 500 names, citing PGA, ITV, TTR Sotheby's, Workplace Options, CarboNet and yetipay.
Technically, GlideOS rests on SheetSense, a proprietary system that translates a spreadsheet into software by reading not only the values but the structure, relationships and logic behind them. Every app you build draws on the same live database, so an update propagates everywhere instead of being copied between files. Each profile, whether employee, manager, customer or partner, sees a view fitted to its role. Big Tables handle up to 10 million rows on the Enterprise plan. On top of that sit customizable AI agents, a bring-your-own-agent option and an MCP server.
Security is presented as a first-class concern: apps are private by default, data is encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption at rest and in transit, and the company holds SOC 2 Type 2 alongside GDPR and CCPA claims.
The most important thing to grasp before buying is structural. GlideOS is a standalone product with a subscription separate from Glide Classic. Seven years of no-code experience have been reinvested in it, but the two are not the same platform, and moving from one to the other is not a supported path.
What it does
- Generate a working internal business app from a spreadsheet, a written prompt, a PDF or a screenshot
- Let the Glide agent read your structure, data, relationships and logic through the proprietary SheetSense system
- Adjust the generated screens and workflows instead of building them from scratch
- Connect your existing tools from 1,045 integrations, authorized in one click straight from the chat
- Publish to desktop and mobile, then share the app by link or QR code
- Control access with roles, granular permissions, row ownership and SSO on Enterprise
- Query your data in plain language with Ask Glide, and deploy AI agents for invoices, resumes, contracts and inspections
When to use Glide / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Glide is the right fit.
When to use Glide
- Operations teams with no developer on hand, looking to replace a patchwork of spreadsheets with a single working app
- Builders of internal tools for inventory, logistics, purchasing, warehouse, work orders, portals, dashboards, CRM and field sales
- Companies that must serve field crews on mobile and management dashboards from one shared, live database
- Organizations from small businesses up to large accounts, with ITV, Sotheby's and Workplace Options named among the customers
- Teams that want ready-made AI agents for invoice processing, resume screening, contract handling and inspections
When not to use Glide
- Glide Classic customers expecting to move across: GlideOS is a separate product with its own account and subscription, and no migration tool exists
- Teams that need data shared between Classic and GlideOS, since the two platforms exchange nothing
- Organizations that require a native iOS or Android app on the stores, as Glide publishes responsive web apps only
- Anyone under 18, who is excluded by the terms of service
- Users hoping to run a real project on the Free plan, which is capped at 1 project, 1 app, 100 MB of storage and limited credits
How to use Glide
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Upload any spreadsheet to GlideOS, or simply describe the app you want; a written prompt, a PDF or a screenshot works just as well
- Alternatively, start from an existing build by browsing the app marketplace or the 400+ templates
- Let Glide understand it: the AI reads structure, data, relationships and logic before proposing anything
- Review the screens and workflows it generates, then adjust them to how your team actually works
- Connect your existing tools: a Connect card appears in the chat, you authorize it, and credentials are stored securely and never seen by the AI
- Set roles, permissions and row ownership so each profile sees only the data it should
- Publish to desktop and mobile, then share the app by link or QR code
- Invite your team from the dashboard, or let people start on individual trial accounts
- Put it to work: question your data with Ask Glide and deploy AI agents on invoices, resumes, contracts or inspections
- Go further with the documentation, Glide University, the certification, the community forum and the YouTube tutorials
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Spreadsheet to working app in minutes, with no code required
- All apps share one live database, so nothing has to be re-copied between spreadsheets
- 1,045 integrations, connected by the AI without a single configuration screen
- Serious, documented security posture: SOC 2 Type 2, AES 256-bit encryption, row ownership, SSO and a public Vanta trust report
- Unusual privacy transparency for the category: a dated subprocessor list (13 July 2026), Article 27 representatives for the EU and the UK, a publicly accessible standard DPA, and an AI training opt-out depending on account type
- A permanent free plan, a 14-day trial of the Business plan on Glide Classic, and a full refund within 14 days
- A well-stocked learning ecosystem of documentation, Glide University, certification, forum and certified experts, backed by seven years of no-code experience reinvested in GlideOS
Cons
- GlideOS and Glide Classic are two separate products with separate subscriptions, separate accounts and no shared data, and no migration tool exists: "you are essentially starting fresh"
- Credit-based pricing: LLM tokens are billed as credits, so the real cost tracks usage and is hard to project before you start
- The Free plan is very limited, at 1 project, 1 app, 100 MB of storage and limited credits
- Hosting is in the United States only (Google Cloud, Iowa), with no EU region on offer
- Monthly billing only on GlideOS, since annual plans are still announced as coming soon, and Enterprise pricing is not published
- No native iOS or Android app on the stores, and no education or nonprofit discount
- Interface languages are never documented on the site, and the public FAQ contradicts the privacy policy on model training
Pricing & Plans
There is a free plan. GlideOS offers a permanent Free tier at 0.00 USD per month, and the lowest paid entry point is the Solo plan at 25.00 USD per month, followed by Team at 125.00 USD per month and Enterprise on quotation. Billing is monthly only for the time being, as annual plans are announced as coming soon. Usage is metered in credits, a standardized unit for the LLM tokens consumed by app building and agent work, which may be purchased as add-ons or increased by moving up a tier or a plan. A separate 14-day free trial is offered on the Business plan of Glide Classic, which is a distinct product, and Glide states that a full refund is available within 14 days. No education or nonprofit discount is offered.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Glide handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly and supported by concrete, verifiable measures rather than a badge alone. A GDPR badge in the footer points to the security center, and a dedicated GDPR page exists, last updated on 26 January 2023 and authored by Mark Probst. Glide states it has "implemented the appropriate technical and security processes to ensure compliance with GDPR obligations". Two Article 27 representatives are appointed: DP-Dock GmbH in Hamburg for the European Union and DP Data Protection Services UK Ltd. in London for the United Kingdom, both reachable at typeguard@gdpr-rep.com. The privacy policy carries a "European Union Data Subject Rights" section covering access, rectification, erasure, portability and objection. The services are hosted and operated in the United States, and transfers out of the EU are covered by a DPA incorporating the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Privacy contact: hello@glideapps.com or (415) 360-1844.
Who owns the data?
The terms of service are explicit on ownership: "As between you and Glide, you retain all right, title, and interest in Your Content, including any Generated Content." Your Content covers both what you input and what the platform generates for you, so the tables, apps and outputs you create remain yours, and you may reuse them without asking Glide for permission. Glide keeps its own rights over the Service itself; using the platform transfers no ownership of Glide's software to the customer. A standard data processing agreement is published on the site for buyers who need contractual processing terms alongside the ownership clause.
Reuse rights
Because you keep ownership of Your Content, you can export, reuse and repurpose what you build and generate without asking permission. What Glide itself does with it is more nuanced. The privacy policy states that Glide uses "the prompts, instructions, and conversations you input in connection with these features, together with the structure, configuration, and formulas of the Applications and spreadsheets you build, to operate, maintain, improve, develop, and train our AI features and models", while also stating that it does "not use the specific data values or Personal Data contained within your Application data sources or spreadsheets to train our AI models". The distinction matters: your rows are excluded, your prompts and your app structure are not. An opt-out from training is offered, but only where your account type provides it, and it appears as a line item in the pricing grid. One inconsistency deserves attention: the public FAQ answers "No, we never train our AI models on customer data.", which is more absolute than the policy it is supposed to summarize. Declared AI subprocessors are Anthropic, DeepSeek and Google Cloud, while the Classic FAQ also cites OpenAI and Azure ML; payments are processed by Stripe, Inc.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
Glide hosts and operates its services entirely in the United States. The security FAQ is explicit: "We're hosted on Google Cloud Platform, and our servers are located in Iowa, USA", and the privacy policy confirms that "The Services are hosted and operated in the United States". No EU hosting region is offered. Data is encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption at rest and in transit, with HTTPS end to end. The subprocessor list, dated 13 July 2026, names the infrastructure and service providers involved: Google Cloud Platform, AWS (SNS for SMS), Airtable, Cloudinary, Courier, Mapbox, Anthropic and DeepSeek. For customers outside the United States, international transfers are covered by Glide's data processing agreement, which incorporates the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. In practice, that means a US-only footprint with contractual rather than geographic safeguards for European personal data: workable for many buyers, but a blocker for anyone bound to EU data residency.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Glide.
- Public contradiction on AI training: the FAQ says "we never train our AI models on customer data", while the privacy policy describes training on prompts, conversations, structure, configuration and formulas. Read the policy, not the FAQ, before deciding what you feed the platform.
- The training opt-out is not universal: it applies "where your account type provides the ability to opt out", so check what your own plan actually allows instead of assuming.
- GlideOS is not Glide Classic. Separate subscription, separate account, no shared data and no migration tool, so subscribing to the wrong one is costly to unwind.
- The 14-day free trial covers the Business plan of Glide Classic, not GlideOS, and annual plans are announced but not yet available. Verify what you are actually signing up for.
- Cost is driven by credits tied to LLM token consumption, so the bill follows usage. Budget for variability and watch spend as agents scale.
- Data is hosted exclusively in the United States, in Iowa. EU transfers rely on standard contractual clauses through the DPA, which will not satisfy every data residency requirement.
- Part of the trust material is dated: the security whitepaper is from 31 January 2023 and the GDPR page from 26 January 2023, while the subprocessor list is from 2026. Separately, the domain was registered in 2018 and the first Wayback capture (2011) belongs to a previous owner, so any inference of a 2011 founding date is wrong.
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low. No coding skills are required and the product explicitly targets non-technical profiles: you start by uploading a spreadsheet or writing a prompt. Integrations need no installation or configuration screen; a Connect card appears in the chat, you authorize it, done. Glide advertises a working app in minutes, and one customer reports going from concept to app in 15 minutes. Exceptions: Enterprise features (SSO, custom connectors, backups) involve a more supervised setup, and full AI agents take around four weeks to reach production with the Glide Solutions team. Documentation, Glide University, certification, a forum and certified experts back it up.

Should you pick Glide?
Glide is a mature product rather than a launch-week experiment: seven years of Glide Classic sit behind it, and the company claims more than 100,000 organizations. GlideOS takes that experience and rebuilds it around AI, so a spreadsheet, a prompt or a file becomes a working internal app in minutes rather than weeks.
Its security and compliance posture is above the no-code average. SOC 2 Type 2, a dated subprocessor list, Article 27 representatives for the EU and the UK, and a publicly available DPA are more than most tools in this category publish, and the training opt-out is a real, if conditional, control.
Three reservations deserve weight before you commit. The first is structural: GlideOS and Glide Classic are separate products, with separate accounts, separate subscriptions, no shared data and no migration path. Choosing one is a real decision, not a version upgrade. The second is jurisdictional: hosting is entirely in the United States, on Google Cloud servers in Iowa, with no EU region on offer, so EU transfers rest on standard contractual clauses through the DPA. The third is financial: the real cost is driven by credits tied to LLM consumption, which makes the monthly bill hard to project before you have actually used the platform.
The natural buyer is an operations team that wants out of its spreadsheets without hiring a developer and is comfortable with US hosting. If that describes you, the free plan costs nothing but time to test, and the paid entry point is 25 USD per month. If you are already invested in Glide Classic, or if EU data residency is a hard requirement, weigh those two points before anything else.
