Overview

What is Hero Stuff?

Hero Stuff is an AI listing and inventory tool for people who resell physical second-hand goods. Published by Hero Stuff, Inc. and usually referred to simply as Hero, it compresses the whole listing chain into a single pass: you photograph an item or record a short video, and the AI identifies the product, brand, category and condition, prices it against listings that have actually sold, writes a title and a description, then pushes the result to eBay, Facebook Marketplace and a free Hero storefront.

The same engine works at catalogue scale. Since August 2026 the business tier accepts imports from Shopify, WooCommerce, a CSV or a plain spreadsheet — or simply a folder of photos — and cleans them up on the way in; the vendor makes a point of accepting partial rows, stale prices and cryptic product names. A web dashboard then holds the full inventory, with search, keyboard-speed editing, drafts and data export.

Around that core sit several image and voice features. Studio Photos turns one photograph into six studio-style shots, with background removal and cropping, and can show clothing worn rather than laid flat. Audio AI Enrichment lets you edit a listing by speaking into the microphone, and video listings let you describe an item out loud. Public price guides by category and a free SMS price checker complete the consumer-facing side.

For developers, the same capabilities are exposed through API and MCP access, with webhooks, batch processing, credit-based usage and marketplace drafts, aimed at agents, resale apps, marketplaces and recommerce teams.

The company publishes some scale figures: more than 85,000 sellers, over a million scans and listings, and a 4.7-star average across more than 2,000 App Store ratings. Its economic argument is time: it puts a hand-made listing at up to thirty minutes, five for research and pricing, ten for writing and fifteen for photography.

Two limits matter. Only eBay and Facebook Marketplace are connected today, with Poshmark, Mercari, OfferUp and Vinted announced as roadmap. And Hero handles no money: payouts stay with the marketplaces, and the company takes no commission on your sales. The service has been available worldwide since 8 July 2026.

What it does

  • Identify an item — product, brand, category, condition — from a single photo
  • Price it against listings that actually sold, not against asking prices
  • Write the title, the description and the product details automatically
  • Cross-post to eBay, Facebook Marketplace and a free Hero storefront in one pass
  • Turn one photo into six studio shots, remove backgrounds and crop images
  • Import and clean an entire catalogue from Shopify, WooCommerce, CSV or a spreadsheet
  • Serve the same capabilities to agents through API and MCP, with webhooks and batch processing

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Unlimited pricing scans on every paid plan: the quota is on publishing, not on scanning

  • Prices are drawn from listings that actually sold rather than from asking prices
  • Catalogue import tolerates messy data: partial rows, stale prices and cryptic product names
  • A documented opt-out keeps your photos and videos out of service-improvement uses
  • A genuinely free price checker works by SMS, with no signup and no download

Cons

  • No GDPR mention anywhere, no DPA, no Article 27 representative and no published security certification
  • No postal address appears on any page of the site, and there is no about page or team
  • No permanent free plan on the pricing page — all three tiers are paid
  • The entry tier allows only 10 marketplace cross-posts a month for USD 14.99
  • Cancellations and refunds go through Apple or Google rather than through Hero Stuff

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Hero Stuff handles your data.

GDPR overview

There is no GDPR implementation to report. A search of the whole collected corpus, page text and archived HTML alike, returns no occurrence of GDPR, General Data Protection Regulation, Article 27 representative, data protection officer, data processing agreement or sub-processor. The privacy policy, last updated on 17 April 2026, is built entirely on United States state law: CCPA and CPRA in California, plus the Connecticut, Colorado and Virginia privacy acts. It states plainly that Hero is based in the United States, that the information collected is governed by U.S. law, and that using the service means consenting to the transfer of data to the U.S. Access, correction, deletion and opt-out requests go to support@herostuff.com under those state laws. The product has nonetheless been available worldwide, Germany included, since 8 July 2026.

Who owns the data?

Section 6 of the terms leaves you the owner of the images, text, data and metadata you upload. In exchange you grant Hero Stuff, Inc. and its affiliates a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sub-licensable licence to host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works from, display, distribute and otherwise use that content, in order to run and improve the service and to carry out safety, moderation, analytics and quality functions. The privacy policy adds that data may be shared with Stripe, service providers, advertisers, authorities and group companies, and that aggregated or de-identified data may circulate freely. Deleted content may be kept for a commercially reasonable period before it disappears.

Reuse rights

What the tool produces for you — titles, descriptions, suggested prices, generated photos — is yours to edit and publish on your own marketplace accounts, and inventory can be exported at any time. The terms frame every automated output as an estimate you alone are responsible for checking before publication: the vendor authenticates nothing and gives no appraisal, legal or tax advice. One reuse is expressly forbidden. Section 11 bars you from using any output, data or content generated by the service to train or fine-tune a machine learning model, or to build a competing product, without prior written consent. No open or commercial-use licence is published alongside those restrictions.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
No fixed retention period is published. The privacy policy says media and message logs are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, ensure quality and safety, comply with the law and resolve disputes, after which they are deleted or de-identified, and that de-identified artefacts may be kept indefinitely. Account information is retained for as long as the account exists, and longer where trust and safety matters, valid legal requests or applicable law require it. The terms add that after you delete content or close your account, user content may be kept for a commercially reasonable period for compliance, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution and backup integrity, before deletion. Accounts are deleted from user settings, and deactivation can be requested at support@herostuff.com. Reviews and public postings may remain visible, detached from personal data.

Hosting summary

Hero Stuff, Inc. states in its privacy policy that Hero is based in the United States and that the information it collects is governed by U.S. law; using the service means consenting to the processing and transfer of that information in and to the U.S. and other countries, where local protections may not apply. Beyond that jurisdictional statement, no hosting country, region, cloud provider or data centre is named anywhere on the site, and there is no trust or security page, no SOC 2 claim and no ISO 27001 claim. The policy limits itself to reasonable technical and organisational measures. Named third parties that touch data include Stripe for payments, Apple for Sign in with Apple, Google and Microsoft for advertising and analytics, plus an unnamed SMS aggregator and cloud storage provider. The domain itself is served behind Cloudflare, which says nothing about where user data actually lives.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Hero Stuff.

  • Generated prices and descriptions are estimates the vendor does not guarantee; publishing them unchecked is your risk, not theirs
  • Hero Stuff does not authenticate items, so counterfeit, altered or stolen goods stay entirely the seller's legal exposure
  • Mass publishing can expose connected eBay or Facebook accounts to review or suspension — the vendor's own FAQ raises the question
  • The content licence you grant is unusually broad, covering modification, derivative works and sub-licensing
  • Photos and videos feed product-detection improvement by default; keeping them out requires an explicit OPTOUT
  • Data is transferred to and governed by U.S. law, with no GDPR framework and no equivalent of local protections
  • Handing pricing and copywriting to the AI slowly erodes the seller's own valuation instinct — the very skill needed when the tool is wrong
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low for the intended audience. Download the free iOS or Android app or open the web dashboard, create an account, connect eBay and Facebook, and start photographing. Bulk import is file-based or connector-based — Shopify, WooCommerce, CSV or a spreadsheet — and needs no code; the vendor advertises no onboarding calls and in-app premium support. The free SMS price checker needs neither account nor install. Real technical work appears only at the API and MCP tier, where webhooks, batch jobs and credit-based usage assume a developer and a sales conversation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does Hero Stuff actually do?
You photograph an item or record a short video, and the AI identifies it, prices it from real sold data, writes the title and description, and publishes the listing to eBay, Facebook Marketplace and your Hero storefront.
Which marketplaces can I sell on?
eBay and Facebook Marketplace are connected today, alongside a free Hero storefront, and other channels can be reached by export. Support for Poshmark, Mercari, OfferUp and Vinted is announced as roadmap, not available.
Where do the prices come from?
From verified resale data on major marketplaces, comparing prices items actually sold for rather than the prices sellers were asking. The public price guides and the free price checker use the same data.
How much does it cost?
Three monthly plans: Starter at USD 14.99, Seller at USD 29.99 and Business at USD 89.99. All include unlimited pricing scans and differ on cross-posts and studio credits. A free trial is offered and you can cancel at any time.
Does Hero Stuff take a cut of my sales?
No. The company states it never takes a percentage of sales. Payouts are handled directly by the marketplaces you connect, since Hero Stuff creates listings but processes no payments.
Can I import an existing catalogue?
Yes. Shopify, WooCommerce, a CSV, a spreadsheet or a folder of photos can be imported in bulk, and the catalogue cleanup step fixes partial rows, stale prices and unusable product names automatically.
Are my photos used to train the AI?
The privacy policy says photos and videos are used to test and improve product-detection systems, and that you may opt out: reply OPTOUT by text message or use the in-app setting. The company states it does not use them for facial recognition.
Is Hero Stuff GDPR compliant?
The site never mentions the GDPR. Its privacy policy is built on United States state laws only, and it states that Hero is based in the United States and that collected information is governed by U.S. law.
What do I need to get started, and is there an age limit?
An account and the free iOS or Android app, or the web dashboard; the SMS price checker needs neither. The terms of service require users to be at least 18, or the age of majority in their jurisdiction.
Conclusion

Should you pick Hero Stuff?

Hero Stuff is a narrow tool that does its narrow job well. It targets one activity — reselling physical second-hand goods on eBay and Facebook Marketplace — and covers the whole chain rather than one link of it: identification, pricing against real sold data, copywriting, studio photography, publishing and inventory management. That completeness, more than any single feature, is what justifies the subscription, and the claimed traction is consistent with it: over 85,000 sellers, more than a million scans and listings, and 4.7 stars across upwards of 2,000 App Store ratings.

Between June and August 2026 the product visibly climbed from the casual seller towards the professional one, with bulk catalogue import, a web dashboard and API and MCP access for agents. Pricing stayed readable in the process: three monthly tiers, unlimited scans on all of them, no commission on sales, and a quota that bites only on publishing — ten cross-posts a month is genuinely tight on the entry plan.

Data governance is where the tool lags behind its product ambition. The content licence you grant is broad enough to cover modification, derivative works and sub-licensing; there is no GDPR mention anywhere, no DPA, no Article 27 representative, no security certification and no postal address; and everything is governed by U.S. law. To the vendor's credit, the opt-out that keeps your photos out of product-detection training is documented in plain words, which is rarer than it should be.

The practical test is simple. If you sell on eBay or Facebook Marketplace in volume and your bottleneck is the thirty minutes each listing costs by hand, Hero Stuff pays for itself quickly. If your buyers are elsewhere, or your compliance requirements are European, it is not yet the tool for you.
