Hexus

Hexus turns a single screen recording into interactive product demos, videos and how-to guides. Its AI writes step captions, voice-overs and avatars, then repurposes and auto-refreshes the same source across formats for go-to-market, support and onboarding teams.

Overview

What is Hexus?

Hexus is a US-built SaaS platform that turns screen recordings into product content: interactive demos, videos, how-to guides and public showcases. The usual entry point is a Chrome extension that captures screens, clicks and keystrokes inside the browser, including pop-ups and multiple tabs or windows. It records screenshots by default, and switches to short video clips when the option to record scrolling and typing as video steps is enabled. Teams that would rather not record can build a flow from uploaded images and videos, or import an existing Loom recording.

Once a capture exists, the AI layer writes step descriptions, adds voice-overs and avatars, and adapts the same source into other formats. The product page groups this into six families: Create, Transform, Refresh, Personalize, Distribute and Optimize. A visual HTML editor lets non-developers polish each screen, blur sensitive text, highlight a feature or change how long a step lasts. Refresh re-captures screens after a UI change, so published assets do not quietly go stale.

Beyond the basics there are multi-flow tours, lead capture forms, name and link variables, localisation, closed captions, a pronunciation dictionary, regular-expression rules, AI image editing and bulk image replacement. Finished content can be embedded, exported as MP4, GIF, PDF or HTML, or gathered into a demo center or a demo hub with its own SDK. Analytics report drop-off, conversions, engagement and viewer paths, limited on the entry tier and fuller from the team tier upward.

Documentation, an FAQ and the complete integration list live on a separate support site, alongside a Slack community and a public feature-request board. On security the vendor claims SOC 2 Type 2, SAML and OIDC single sign-on, configurable access controls and a Vanta Trust Center available on request.

The company behind the tool is Hexus AI, Inc., a Delaware corporation with a San Francisco team, founded and led by Sakshi Pratap. The site now announces that the product has joined Olto and will be known as Hexus by Olto, with the footer already carrying Olto Labs, Inc. Existing demos, workflows and integrations are said to continue with no migration required.

What it does

  • Record screens, clicks and typing in the browser and turn them into an interactive product tour with editable captions
  • Repurpose one capture into how-to guides, videos, blog posts, launch announcements, emails and showcases
  • Auto-refresh captured screens after a product UI change instead of re-recording the whole flow
  • Add AI voice-overs, AI avatars, closed captions and localised versions to a demo
  • Personalise demos with name and link variables, custom visibility, ordering and categories
  • Publish through embeds, MP4 or GIF exports, PDF, HTML, demo centers and a demo hub SDK
  • Track drop-off, conversions, engagement and viewer paths, and capture leads inside a demo

When to use Hexus / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Hexus is the right fit.

When to use Hexus

  • Product marketing managers who ship launch demos, feature tours and sales enablement material without waiting on design or engineering
  • Sales engineers, solutions consultants and account executives who need personalised live demos, leave-behinds and per-persona demo centers
  • Customer success and support teams building self-serve walkthroughs, help-centre articles and onboarding journeys
  • Technical writers, documentation managers and customer-education specialists who must keep screenshots in step with a moving product
  • SaaS founders and growth leads at small teams who want investor-ready or website-ready product content in hours rather than days

When not to use Hexus

  • Anyone who needs to capture outside Chrome or Edge, since the recording extension supports no other browser
  • Mobile-first teams: there is no iOS or Android application, only a desktop browser extension and a web app
  • Developers looking to drive the platform programmatically, as no public API documentation is published
  • Solo creators on a tight budget, because the cheapest paid tier costs USD 49 per month for a single seat and no permanent free plan is listed
  • Organisations with strict EU data requirements, since the vendor publishes no DPA, no sub-processor list and states it does not generally tailor its services to EU customers
Get started

How to use Hexus

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Create an account on the Hexus web app, signing in with email, Google Workspace or Okta depending on the plan
  2. Install the Hexus extension from the Chrome Web Store and pin it to the browser toolbar
  3. Open the product you want to show and start a recording; the extension captures screens, clicks and typing, and can be paused and resumed
  4. Alternatively, skip the extension and build a flow from uploaded images and videos, or import an existing Loom recording
  5. Let the AI clean up the capture into an interactive tour with editable step captions
  6. Edit screen by screen: blur sensitive text, highlight features, adjust step duration, replace or retouch images
  7. Add an AI voice-over or an AI avatar, closed captions and, on Enterprise, localised versions
  8. Repurpose the same flow into a how-to guide, a video, a blog post or a launch announcement in one click
  9. Publish it: embed it on a site, export MP4, GIF, PDF or HTML, or gather several flows into a demo center or demo hub
  10. Watch the analytics for drop-off, conversions and engagement, and use Refresh to update screens after a product change

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • One capture becomes many formats, which removes most of the duplicated effort between marketing, sales and support content
  • Refresh keeps published screenshots in step with the product instead of forcing a full re-record after every UI change
  • No-code visual editor: the vendor positions the tool as requiring no design or development skills
  • Solid security posture for a company this size, with SOC 2 Type 2, SAML and OIDC SSO, access controls and a Vanta Trust Center
  • Clear ownership terms: the vendor claims no ownership of customer content and limits its licence to hosting and delivery
  • Sixteen documented integrations, including HubSpot, Salesforce, Slack, Zapier, Wistia, Marketo, Intercom and HeyGen
  • Seven-day free trial advertised with no credit card required, plus named customer references such as Calendly, Uber, Harness and Rebuy Engine

Cons

  • Capture works only in Chrome and Edge, and there is no mobile application at all
  • No public API documentation: the only OpenAPI file on the documentation site is Mintlify's default sample, not a Hexus API
  • No permanent free plan is listed, and the entry tier costs USD 49 per month for a single seat
  • A steep gap between tiers: the team plan jumps to USD 499 per month
  • Payments are not refundable and there is no pro-rata credit when a subscription is cancelled mid-cycle
  • Weak data governance signals: no DPA, no sub-processor list, no Article 27 EU representative, no stated retention period and no published position on AI training
  • The product is mid-transition to Olto Labs, Inc., and three different company names appear across the site's own pages

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Hexus handles your data.

GDPR overview

Concrete but limited. The privacy policy, effective 1 February 2024, carries a "Notice for European Users and Customers" stating that for Customer Input Data - the screen imagery processed by the service - Hexus AI acts as a processor under the GDPR and that its compliance responsibility is limited to that role. The same notice adds that the company does not generally tailor its services to EU customers, and the policy itself does not cover Customer Input Data or third-party personal data contained in it. There is no explicit claim of GDPR compliance anywhere on the site, no Article 27 EU representative, no named data protection officer, no published DPA and no sub-processor list. International transfers are acknowledged to the United States, without standard contractual clauses being mentioned. Privacy requests go to team@hexus.ai.

Who owns the data?

Customers keep their content. The terms state that Hexus AI claims no ownership of "Your Content" - screen captures, uploaded media and anything created with the service - and asserts no rights over the customer's intellectual property beyond what the contract grants. What the customer grants back is narrow: a worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to host, store, cache and distribute that content, and only so the vendor and its providers can deliver the service. Confidential information may not be used or shared off-platform. Two carve-outs go the other way: feedback sent to the vendor is licensed perpetually and irrevocably, and aggregated, anonymised usage statistics belong entirely to the company.

Reuse rights

Customers may reuse everything they produce with Hexus without asking permission: the terms confirm that content created with the service belongs to the customer, and the platform is explicitly built to export and redistribute it - embed codes, MP4 and GIF exports, PDF and HTML files, demo centers and demo hubs. The licence granted to the vendor runs in the opposite direction only, and is limited to hosting and delivering that content. Two limits apply. Ideas and suggestions sent as feedback can be exploited commercially by the vendor, perpetually and without confidentiality. Aggregated, anonymised usage statistics are owned by the company, not the customer. Nothing on the site addresses whether customer content is used to train AI models, in either direction.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
No fixed duration is published. The privacy policy says retention is decided case by case: personal information is kept for as long as needed to fulfil the purpose it was collected for, including legal, regulatory, accounting or reporting requirements, defending legal claims, enforcing agreements, resolving disputes and preventing fraud. Once no longer required, data is either deleted or anonymised. Users can delete their account through the service or by request, with the terms of service governing what happens after termination. Californian residents under 18 can request removal of content they posted. Nothing is said about backups, logs, archives, or how long content survives after an account closes.

Hosting summary

The vendor gives jurisdiction but no infrastructure detail. The privacy policy states that the company is headquartered in the United States and may use service providers operating in the United States and other countries, and that personal information may be transferred to the United States or elsewhere, where privacy laws may be less protective than in the user's own country. It also notes that data stored or processed in the United States is subject to US law, including government and court access in some circumstances. No hosting provider, cloud region or data centre is named, no data residency option is offered, and no standard contractual clauses are mentioned for transfers out of the EU. The marketing site itself is served through Cloudflare and published on Webflow, which says nothing about where customer content is stored.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Hexus.

  • Three different company names appear across the site - Hexus AI, Inc. in the terms, Hexus AI Corp. in the privacy policy and Olto Labs, Inc. in the footer - so confirm the contracting entity before signing
  • The product has just changed hands: continuity is promised, but roadmap, pricing and support arrangements can move after an acquisition
  • Payments are non-refundable with no pro-rata credit, and disputes go to mandatory individual arbitration under Californian law, with class actions and jury trials waived
  • The privacy policy does not cover the screen imagery you process through the service, nor any third-party personal data captured inside it - so masking sensitive screens before recording is on you
  • Nothing on the site states whether customer content is used to train AI models, and no opt-out is documented
  • Feedback and suggestions sent to the vendor are licensed perpetually, irrevocably and commercially, with no confidentiality obligation
  • AI-generated captions, voice-overs and avatars still describe your product: leaving them unreviewed risks publishing confident but inaccurate guidance to customers
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low for an individual. The documented path is three steps: create an account, install the Chrome extension and pin it, then record. Sign-in works by email, Google Workspace or Okta depending on the plan, and no code is needed - the HTML editor is visual and the vendor claims no design skills are required. Two things need a technical hand: embedding demos or using the demo hub SDK requires access to the host page's code, and SSO plus a custom domain are Enterprise features set up with the vendor. Keyboard shortcuts may need configuring for screens the extension cannot capture.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which browsers can Hexus record?
The recording extension supports Chrome and Edge only. The support FAQ states that other browsers are not supported and invites users to request them by email.
Can Hexus record something outside the browser?
Not through the extension. To capture the desktop or a camera you open an existing flow in the dashboard, switch to edit mode on an interactive product tour, add a step and choose to record your screen or your camera.
Does it capture screenshots or video?
Screenshots by default. If the option to record scrolling and typing as video steps is enabled, Hexus records a video clip whenever scrolling or typing lasts longer than five seconds.
Do I need a HeyGen account to use AI avatars?
No. A HeyGen avatar picker is built into Hexus. Pasting your own HeyGen API key lets you use your own assets and billing instead.
Is there a free trial, and does it need a card?
Yes, a seven-day free trial is advertised, and the homepage states that no credit card is required. No permanent free plan is listed on the pricing page.
How much does Hexus cost?
Start is USD 49 per month for one user, Growth is USD 499 per month for five members, and Enterprise is quoted on request. An annual commitment brings Start to USD 40 and Growth to USD 400 per month.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
No. The terms state that payments are not subject to any refunds and that cancelling mid-cycle does not produce a pro-rata credit.
Who owns the demos and guides I create?
You do. The terms say Hexus AI claims no ownership of your content and limits its own licence to hosting, storing, caching and distributing it in order to deliver the service.
What is the minimum age to use Hexus?
Sixteen. The privacy policy states that the service is not intended for anyone under 16 years of age.
Is Hexus still running after the Olto announcement?
Yes. The company's own announcement says the product and roadmap are joining Olto, that existing demos, workflows and integrations keep working, that no migration is needed, and that the product will be known as Hexus by Olto.
Conclusion

Should you pick Hexus?

Hexus solves a narrow problem well: keeping product demos, videos and how-to guides alive as the product underneath them keeps changing. Recording once and repurposing into several formats, then refreshing captured screens after a UI change, is the part of the workflow that usually eats a go-to-market team's week, and the named customer references - Calendly, Uber, Harness, Rebuy Engine - suggest the promise holds at real scale. The security posture is also better than the company's size would predict: SOC 2 Type 2, SAML and OIDC single sign-on, configurable access controls and a Trust Center available on request.

Data governance is where the picture thins out. There is no published data processing agreement, no sub-processor list, no EU representative, no stated retention period and no position at all on whether customer content might be used to train AI models. The privacy policy openly says the vendor does not generally tailor its services to EU customers, which European buyers should read carefully before committing. The commercial terms are equally firm: no refunds, no pro-rata credit, and mandatory individual arbitration under Californian law.

Two practical limits matter. Capture works only in Chrome and Edge, and there is no mobile app and no documented public API. And the entry price of USD 49 per month buys a single seat, with the team tier ten times higher.

Finally, the tool is in transition: the site announces that Hexus has joined Olto and will be known as Hexus by Olto, while three different company names still appear across its own pages. The announcement promises continuity, but anyone signing a multi-year commitment should confirm which entity they are contracting with.
