Overview

What is Lyser?

Lyser is a Danish software platform that treats the job advert as regulated, brand-bearing content rather than throwaway copy. It sits between a hiring manager's notes and the moment a role goes live, and it does three things to every posting that passes through it: it scores the writing, it enforces the employer's own standards, and it checks the text against hiring law in the place the role is advertised.

The scoring rests on a published framework of more than twenty checks in three families. Compliance covers GDPR, pay transparency, gender-neutral wording and anti-discrimination language. Quality and candidate impact covers the headline, the unique selling point, the number and the quality of both tasks and qualifications, inclusive language, clichés and jargon. Brand and consistency covers tone of voice and headings. Every issue raised comes with the reason it was flagged and a suggested fix, and several are corrected outright: Lyser will restructure an advert that has drifted from the agreed shape, or drop a missing DEIB statement into the right place.

The inclusive-writing engine is the oldest part of the product, inherited from Develop Diverse, the company Lyser used to be. It is built on the 2011 Gaucher, Friesen and Kay study of gendered wording in job advertisements, kept current with newer language research. Lyser is unusually open about its models: off-the-shelf generative models handle drafting, while proprietary Lyser AI models, trained on the vendor's own bias and language-structure research, handle the harder judgement calls. The stated aim is output that does not read as machine-written.

Around that sits a governance layer. An employer configures its EVP, structure, tone and terminology once, with finer settings by seniority, and every later post inherits them whoever wrote it. A publication threshold can stop adverts going out below a minimum score or in breach of a compliance rule. A dashboard tracks performance and compliance across the team.

Access is through a web application with SSO, ATS integrations and a Word integration. There is no public API and no mobile app.

What it does

  • Turn a hiring manager's rough notes into a finished job advert
  • Score any existing advert against a framework of more than twenty best practices
  • Detect gendered, biased or exclusionary wording and swap it for neutral language
  • Check pay transparency obligations against the law that applies where the role is advertised
  • Apply company brand voice, structure and terminology automatically to every post
  • Block publication until a minimum score or a compliance rule is satisfied
  • Track quality and compliance across the whole team on a shared dashboard
Audience

When to use Lyser / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Lyser is the right fit.

When to use Lyser

  • In-house talent acquisition teams publishing adverts at volume, where consistency slips because everyone writes their own
  • Employers hiring across several countries, who need pay transparency and anti-discrimination rules applied per jurisdiction
  • Employer branding and EVP owners who want tone of voice and structure applied automatically rather than policed by hand
  • Compensation and reward specialists dealing with the EU Pay Transparency Directive and equivalent US state laws
  • Compliance officers and employment lawyers who currently review postings manually for legal risk

When not to use Lyser

  • Small teams or solo founders posting a handful of roles a year, for whom €249 a month on an annual commitment makes no sense
  • Anyone wanting to sign up and try the product immediately: there is no self-serve plan, every route runs through a sales conversation
  • Recruiters looking for sourcing, CV screening, interview scheduling or onboarding, none of which Lyser touches
  • Engineering teams expecting to call the product from their own stack: no public API is documented
  • Candidates and job seekers, who are never the user here even though they are the audience for the output
Get started

How to use Lyser

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Book a demo or submit a free trial request: there is no self-serve sign-up
  2. A Lyser specialist sets the account up and walks you through it, after which you explore on your own
  3. Configure your company standards once: EVP, structure, tone of voice, guidelines and terminology, with advanced settings by seniority
  4. Connect your ATS, and set up SSO through Microsoft Entra ID or SAML2 if your IT team requires it
  5. Have the account administrator assign user roles and decide the collaboration mode for the account
  6. Start an advert either by pasting in an existing posting or by feeding in the hiring manager's notes
  7. Run the analysis and read the score, with each issue explained and placed in context
  8. Accept the suggested fixes; some corrections, such as restructuring or a missing DEIB statement, are applied for you
  9. Check the compliance panel: pay transparency for the location, neutral wording, anti-discrimination language
  10. Publish once the score threshold and the compliance rules are met, then follow results on the team dashboard

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The framework is published and nameable: you can read the twenty-odd checks before buying, rather than trusting a black box
  • The inclusive-writing engine cites its scientific basis, an uncommon degree of transparency in this category
  • Regulatory tracking is part of the product, covering the EU Pay Transparency Directive alongside national and US state rules
  • Security is documented in detail: TLS 1.2, AES 256, an annual external penetration test, role-based access and staff background checks
  • Subprocessors are listed by name with the country their data sits in, and a DPA ships as an annexe to the terms rather than on request
  • The vendor states plainly that customer data is not used to train its models
  • Unlimited users and teams, plus SSO and SAML, are included from the entry plan rather than reserved for Enterprise

Cons

  • No free plan, and the entry point is €249 a month billed annually on a yearly commitment
  • Nothing can be tried without talking to sales, and Enterprise pricing is not published at all
  • The site contradicts itself on trials: a dedicated free trial page and a site-wide button sit alongside an FAQ that says no traditional free trial is offered
  • No public API and no mobile app, so the product stays inside its web interface
  • Not one supported interface or processing language is named anywhere, despite the claim of multi-language support
  • The terms ask a good deal in return: use of your name and logo in marketing, a testimonial, and aggregated applicant demographics shared back
  • Lyser holds no security certification of its own; the ISO and SOC badges on the security page belong to Microsoft Azure

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Lyser handles your data.

GDPR overview

GDPR implementation is documented in concrete terms rather than asserted in passing. The privacy policy, last updated 15 June 2025, names its legal bases (consent, contract, legitimate interest, legal obligation), lists the full set of data subject rights and routes their exercise to contact@lyser.com, and names Datatilsynet, the Danish supervisory authority, as the complaints channel. Transfers outside the EEA are covered by adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses or Binding Corporate Rules. A data processing agreement is supplied as Appendix 1 to the terms of service, with documented instructions, Article 32 to 36 assistance, staff confidentiality, Article 28 audit rights and 30 days' notice on subprocessor changes; the subprocessor list itself is published. The minimum age is 16. Lyser also places its own AI features in the EU AI Act's Limited Risk category.

Who owns the data?

The customer owns its Customer Data outright: uploaded content, applicant profile data and job descriptions, plus data derived from them and returned by the service. Lyser keeps ownership of the platform, its reports and documentation, and claims any suggestions or improvements a customer contributes. Separately, clause 3.2 lets Lyser store and analyse usage and performance data, use it during and after the contract to improve its products, and disclose it to third parties in aggregate or de-identified form only. Two clauses deserve attention before signing: Lyser may use the customer's name and logo in its marketing, and the customer undertakes to share aggregated applicant demographics — gender, nationality and age — back with the vendor.

Reuse rights

Within the platform, the customer is free to reuse what it produces: adverts and derived reports are Customer Data, and aggregated data can be exported through the built-in export function, including on the way out of the contract. What is licensed rather than owned is the software itself. The licence is non-exclusive, non-assignable, non-transferable and non-sublicensable, and is limited to the customer's own internal business operations. Reverse engineering, decompiling, building derivative works from the system, using it on a service-bureau or timesharing basis for a third party, and removing proprietary notices are all expressly prohibited. Named users must be employees, one person per account, with no sharing. Both parties are bound by mutual confidentiality.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Personal data is kept for as long as the account is active or as long as legal obligations require; usage data is generally kept for a shorter period. When a contract ends, Lyser deletes customer data within 90 days, but copies held on database backups may survive for up to 365 days from termination, until the backup in force expires. Before leaving, the customer can export aggregated data through the platform's own export function. The data processing agreement commits Lyser to deleting all personal data and every existing copy once processing ends, unless EU or member state law requires it to be kept. One reservation is permanent: anonymised and aggregated data may continue to be used after the contract is over. No retention period is published for data held during the contract.

Hosting summary

Lyser is established in Denmark and its terms are governed by Danish law. It stores nothing on its own premises: the services are hosted in Microsoft Azure data centres. The published subprocessor list, effective 26 August 2025, gives the actual data locations. Hetzner Online GmbH, a German company, holds data in Finland and Germany. Microsoft Azure, a US company, holds data in the EU, Sweden, Western Europe and France. One.com Group AB of Sweden holds database backups in Denmark. Amplitude, based in the United States, holds usage data in Germany. HubSpot Ireland holds support data in Frankfurt. Data in transit is encrypted with at least TLS 1.2 and at rest with AES 256, and subprocessors are security-assessed annually. Two caveats matter. The privacy policy reserves the right to transfer personal data outside the EEA under adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses or Binding Corporate Rules, and no contractual data residency guarantee is advertised. The ISO 27001, ISO 27018, SOC and FedRAMP certifications cited on the security page are Azure's, not Lyser's.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Lyser.

  • A high score is not a legal opinion. Compliance checking is assistance, and the terms disclaim all responsibility for the results obtained from the service
  • Let the tool write for long enough and the team quietly loses the ability to write a good advert without it
  • Standardisation cuts both ways: when every employer applies the same framework, adverts across an entire market start to sound alike
  • Automatic neutralisation can strip wording that was deliberate, or misread a legitimate technical or sector-specific term
  • Suggested salary ranges commit the employer. Accepting one without internal validation transfers a real decision to a suggestion engine
  • Automatic fixes such as restructuring or inserting a DEIB statement land without review if nobody is checking the output
  • Read clauses 1.5 and 2.3 before signing: they commit you to promotional use of your name and logo, a testimonial, and sharing aggregated applicant demographics back with the vendor
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low for the end user, moderate for the organisation. There is nothing to install: the product runs in a browser, and a Lyser specialist configures the account and gives a guided tour before you start. The real effort is the initial setup — defining EVP, structure, tone of voice, terminology and the settings that vary by seniority — which is a content decision more than a technical one. IT involvement is needed only for the ATS connection and, if wanted, single sign-on through Microsoft Entra ID or SAML2. Day-to-day use requires no technical skill.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does Lyser do?
It is a SaaS platform for talent acquisition teams that writes, analyses and polices job adverts. Every posting is scored against a framework of more than twenty best practices covering compliance, candidate impact and brand consistency, and Lyser both explains and fixes what it finds.
Is there a free trial?
The answer depends on which page you read, and that is worth knowing before you ask. A dedicated free trial page describes a trial that a Lyser specialist sets up for you before you explore on your own, and a Request free trial button appears on every page — yet the pricing FAQ states that no traditional free trial is offered, only a personalised demo.
How much does it cost?
The Core plan is EUR 249 per month, billed annually. Enterprise is quoted on request. There is no free plan, and both plans go through a pricing request form.
Does it connect to our applicant tracking system?
Yes. SAP SuccessFactors, Greenhouse, Workday, SmartRecruiters, Teamtailor and HR-ON are shown as integrations, and there is a Word integration as well. Single sign-on runs through Microsoft Entra ID or SAML2.
Will our data be used to train Lyser's AI?
No. The security page states that Lyser does not use customer data to train its internal LLM and machine learning models, and that only Lyser and Microsoft Azure are involved in processing.
Where is the data hosted?
Lyser stores nothing on its own premises. The published subprocessor list puts data with Hetzner in Finland and Germany, Microsoft Azure in the EU, Sweden, Western Europe and France, One.com backups in Denmark, Amplitude in Germany and HubSpot in Frankfurt.
Is a data processing agreement available?
Yes, and you do not have to ask for it: the DPA is Appendix 1 to the terms of service. Subprocessors are listed publicly, with 30 days' notice required before any change.
What happens to our data if we leave?
You can export aggregated data through the platform before you go. Lyser then deletes customer data within 90 days of termination, though backup copies may retain it for up to 365 days until the backup cycle expires.
Is there an API or a mobile app?
Neither. No public API documentation exists anywhere on the site, and no App Store or Google Play listing is offered. The product is reached through the web application at app.lyser.com.
What is the inclusive language feature based on?
It is built on the 2011 study by Gaucher, Friesen and Kay on gendered wording in job advertisements, updated with more recent language research and combined with natural language processing and Lyser's own proprietary models.
Conclusion

Should you pick Lyser?

Lyser has chosen a narrow problem and gone deep into it. It does not try to be a recruiting suite; it works on the job advert alone, and almost everything that distinguishes it follows from that decision. The framework of twenty-odd checks is published rather than hinted at, the inclusive-writing engine cites the research it rests on, and the regulatory tracking — pay transparency from Ireland to Washington State, neutral wording in Poland — is the kind of work a talent team cannot realistically do itself when it hires across borders. For a compliance and security posture, the documentation is unusually thorough for a vendor this size: named subprocessors with the country their data sits in, a DPA supplied as a contract annexe, and a plain statement that customer data does not train the models.

The reservations are mostly about access and evidence. There is no free plan and no way in without a sales conversation, so the €249 monthly entry point on an annual commitment puts the tool firmly in the hands of structured teams rather than occasional hirers. The site contradicts itself on whether a free trial exists at all. The impact figures it leans on — 54% more applicants, 90% of the time saved — carry no published source. Lyser holds no security certification of its own; the ISO and SOC badges belong to its cloud provider. And traces of the former Develop Diverse brand still surface in the terms and the support links.

If you publish adverts in volume, across jurisdictions, and inconsistency or legal exposure is already costing you, Lyser is a serious candidate and the trade-offs are worth making. If you hire occasionally, or want to test before you commit, this is not built for you.
