What is Mavera DSS?

Mavera DSS is a cloud decision support system for bodily injury claims, sold by Verisk. The product began life at Mavera, a Swedish insurtech founded in 2008 that became the Nordic market leader for personal injury claims. Verisk announced its acquisition on 21 December 2022, and the platform now trades as part of the group, with customers logging in at dss.mavera.com.

The problem it attacks is narrow and expensive. Medical records arrive unstructured and in every conceivable format, the process around them is largely manual, and it is rarely obvious when a specialist should be brought in, so files sit, some go to a doctor unnecessarily and others do not go soon enough. Mavera DSS puts an AI layer between the raw documents and the decision.

A file moves through four steps. The platform connects to the insurer's existing claims system and cases transfer in a single click. The AI then reads the documentation and returns a summary, a timeline of medical events, and structured lists and graphs. The decision and the claims report are then shared with the claimant.

Four functional areas sit underneath: AI-powered medical overview, claims management, medical network management and performance management. Five user roles each get their own workspace, namely claims handler, head of claims, medical advisor, quality team and network manager. Insurers without their own panel can draw on a network of more than 300 medical advisors, with orthopaedics and neurology named explicitly, and can combine that network with their own doctors.

Scope is deliberately wide within its niche: any claim involving an injured or ill person, across accident and health, health insurance, workers' compensation, travel, motor and liability, and personal injury protection.

GDPR overview

GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly and in several places. The security page states that Verisk fully adheres to the principles and requirements of the GDPR, listing encryption, pseudonymisation and role-based access control as safeguards, and the product page presents the platform as designed to meet both GDPR and the incoming DORA regime. Operations are ISO 27001 certified, with the certificate and Statement of Applicability supplied on request, and an external Data Protection Officer runs an annual control plan. The privacy notice, last updated 10 June 2026, names Verisk Analytics AB in Stockholm as controller, enumerates the full set of data subject rights - objection, access, rectification, restriction, erasure, portability and withdrawal of consent - and directs complaints to the Swedish authority IMY or the user's own national regulator. No Article 27 representative is designated, which is consistent with a controller established inside the EU.

Who owns the data?

Verisk Analytics AB, registered in Stockholm, is named as the sole controller for personal data collected through the website, and it states plainly that it does not sell that data. Ownership of the claims material handled inside Mavera DSS is a separate matter: the privacy notice says the processing of customer data in the context of the services is governed exclusively by separate contractual arrangements, which are not published. In practice the insurer remains responsible for its own claim files, while access inside the platform is limited by role-based permissions, protected by encryption at rest and in transit, and recorded in detailed audit trails.

Reuse rights

The Conditions of Use are restrictive.
