What is Meitner AI?
Meitner AI is the AI teaching assistant published by Meitner AB, a Swedish school-software company based in Solna. Its stated purpose is to free up teacher time for learning itself, and it covers three uses: creating assessments, producing classroom material and writing lesson plans.
The assessment workflow runs in three steps. The teacher uploads the assignment brief together with the students' work, then selects the subject or course, the core content (kärninnehåll) and the assessment criteria that apply. Meitner AI returns an overview of the student's text, a separate feedback view containing a draft response, and ready-made comments placed inside the text itself. One click publishes or exports that feedback to the Meitner school platform or to a third-party system.
Six differentiators are claimed on the product page: models trained on Skolverket material and on established Swedish teaching resources; several specialised models working in parallel on the same task so that answers can be compared and checked; GDPR compliance with storage and processing carried out exclusively in Sweden; a direct link to Skolverket's governing documents (styrdokument); coverage of both grundskola and gymnasium; and support across the whole assessment process. The school can switch between underlying AI models, ChatGPT and Gemini being named, and integrations with Google and Microsoft are advertised.
The assistant is deliberately stand-alone: no school needs to run Meitner as its platform to use it, and any teacher can open an account at ai.meitner.se without going through their employer. It is announced as free across the whole country.
Meitner AI is the third product in the publisher's range, alongside the Meitner school platform and Meitner Schema, an automated timetabling tool. It came from an acquisition: in May 2025 Meitner bought the student-run company A+ Intelligence, founded by Jonathan Larsson and Liam Hillefors, both 18 at the time and now product owners of Meitner AI.
Scope is the limit to keep in mind. The models are built for the Swedish curriculum, the product interface is in Swedish, and the audience is preschool, grundskola and gymnasium, plus adult education and SFI. The publisher reports more than 400 connected schools and 25 employees.

The neighbouring Meitner school platform is a separate, paid product sold on quotation: the site states that the exact price depends on the number of students and on the modules required, and that a price proposal is drawn up free of charge on request by email to info@meitner.se. The home-page FAQ adds that Meitner is not more expensive than other providers on the market and may reduce a school operator's costs by covering several needs in one solution. No public price list exists for any of the products.

GDPR overview
Meitner AB is established in Sweden, so no Article 27 EU representative is required. The product page states that all its models comply with the GDPR and that storage and processing take place exclusively in Sweden, so uploaded information never leaves the EU. The privacy policy adds that some partners may run part of their activity outside the EU/EEA, and that a transfer only happens towards a country with an adequate level of protection or under a legally binding instrument. Data subject rights are listed in full: access and a copy of the record, rectification, erasure, withdrawal of consent, objection, restriction, portability, and a complaint to the Swedish authority IMY. Rights are exercised by email to info@meitner.se. Security measures cited are firewalls, passwords, encrypted transfers and confidentiality agreements. Who owns the data?
Meitner AB (org.nr 559228-5182, Dalvägen 14, 169 56 Solna) is the data controller for how the service is used and for prospect, supplier and job-applicant records; its privacy policy has applied since 1 January 2024. Where a school is the controller, which covers the student work uploaded into the tool, Meitner acts only as a processor, and the published policy states explicitly that it does not describe that processing. The product FAQ states that data sent into Meitner is not shared with any third party. No terms of use are published, so ownership of generated output is not addressed anywhere on the site. Reuse rights
No terms of use are published, so the only stated rules come from the privacy policy. Meitner uses personal data to analyse and improve the service, to authenticate users through a Google account, to meet legal obligations such as the Swedish Bookkeeping Act, to handle public procurement and invoicing, to run support and account administration, for marketing by phone and email, for supplier relations and for recruitment. The legal bases cited are legitimate interest, legal obligation, performance of a contract and consent. Named recipients are Google (Drive, Authenticator), the purchasing schools, public authorities, newsletter partners and IT suppliers. Every purpose carries the same statement that no decision is taken on the basis of automated processing. On the product side, the FAQ states that the models are not trained further on what a school does.
