OpusClip
OpusClip is an AI video platform that turns long recordings into vertical short clips with captions, reframing and B-roll, then publishes them to social platforms. A second product, Agent Opus, generates finished videos from a prompt.
What is OpusClip?
OpusClip is an AI video platform published by Opusclip Inc., a Delaware corporation headquartered at 660 W. Dana Street in Mountain View, California, with further offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Vancouver. It covers two products. The first, also called OpusClip, takes a long recording and returns a set of vertical short clips ready for social platforms. The second, Agent Opus, works the other way round: it generates a finished video from a prompt, a script, an audio file or a web page.
The clipping side rests on two in-house models. ClipAnything selects moments using natural language prompts and is presented as handling any genre, from vlogs and gaming to sport, interviews and explainers, rather than only filmed podcasts. ReframeAnything resizes footage for each platform and keeps moving subjects centred, with manual tracking available when the automatic result is not enough. Around them sit animated multilingual captions, AI B-roll drawn from image, video and stock sources, AI voice-over, speech enhancement, filler and bad-take removal, dubbing, sound effects and upscaling. A virality score is attached to each clip.
Production rarely stops at the clip, so the platform adds a text and timeline editor, brand templates with custom fonts and vocabulary, a team workspace with seats, sub-teams and permissions, a social scheduler covering multiple profiles per network, a title, description and hashtag generator, clip analytics, and XML export to Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
Agent Opus consolidates the roles of researcher, scriptwriter, storyboard artist, motion designer, editor and voice actor, and gives access to third-party generation models including Veo, Sora, Kling, Luma, Pika and Seedance. Both products are reachable from code: a public REST API and a native MCP server exposing twenty-five tools let Claude, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client run the pipeline.
The vendor claims sixteen million creators and businesses, 440 million clips and 160 billion cumulative views as of December 2025. Access is limited to 182 countries, and the mobile app exists on iOS only.

When to use OpusClip / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if OpusClip is the right fit.
When to use OpusClip
- Creators and podcasters sitting on a back catalogue of long-form video they want to recycle into daily shorts
- Social media managers and content teams that must feed several platforms at once without a full editing suite
- Marketing agencies and performance marketers producing ad variants and client content at volume
- Broadcasters and media companies automating clip production at scale, as Univision, Audacy and iHeartMedia are cited doing
- Developers and AI-agent builders who need a video pipeline they can call from code, through the REST API or the native MCP server
When not to use OpusClip
- Android users, since no Google Play listing is published and the mobile app exists only for iOS 16 and above
- Anyone based outside the 182 countries and regions the vendor currently serves, as access is blocked elsewhere
- Teams that need European data residency, because everything runs on Google Cloud servers located in the United States
- Editors doing traditional long-form or cinematic post-production, as the tool is built around the vertical short
- Buyers who require a signed customer data processing agreement before onboarding, as none is published
How to use OpusClip
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Create a free account on the OpusClip dashboard; no credit card is requested
- Paste the link of a long video from YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom, Twitch, Loom, Riverside or StreamYard, or upload a local file of up to 10 GB
- Set the clipping preferences: time range, clip length band from under a minute to fifteen minutes, genre and topic keywords
- Let the AI return a set of clips, each carrying a virality score
- Review the suggestions and open the ones worth keeping in the editor
- Adjust captions and transcript, apply a brand template, add B-roll, voice-over or sound effects
- Export as MP4, or send the project to Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve through XML
- Publish directly to your connected social accounts, or queue the clips in the built-in scheduler
- For automation, generate an API key from the pricing page and post to the clip-projects endpoint with a bearer token
- For AI assistants, connect the MCP server to Claude, Cursor or Codex; tool calls require a paid plan
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Covers the whole chain in one place, from import to clipping, captioning, reframing and publishing
- ClipAnything handles genres beyond the filmed podcast, which most competing clippers do not
- A public REST API and a native MCP server make the pipeline genuinely automatable, which is rare in this segment
- XML export to Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve means the footage is not locked inside the platform
- Security and compliance are documented: SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3, Data Privacy Framework certification and a public subprocessor list
- A permanent free plan and a seven-day Pro trial, both without a credit card, allow a real evaluation
- Twenty-five processing languages and a documented AI research opt-out for EU and EEA residents
Cons
- No Android application is published, and access is blocked outside 182 countries and regions
- The free plan watermarks output, offers no editing and lets clips expire after three days
- Pricing is credit-based, so the real monthly cost is hard to anticipate before you know your volume
- The Pro plan costs twice as much month to month as on an annual commitment, a gap of one hundred percent
- No pro-rated refund is offered on cancellation, and paid periods already invoiced are never reimbursed
- All data is hosted on Google Cloud in the United States, with no European residency option and no published customer DPA
- Full API access is reserved for the quote-only Business plan; the Pro plan only carries limited access

A permanent free plan is available, offering sixty credits per month with watermarked output, no editing and clips that stop being exportable after three days. The lowest paid entry point displayed is 14.50 USD per month, which is the Pro plan taken on an annual commitment and billed as 174 USD per year. On monthly billing, the cheapest paid plan is Starter at 15 USD per month, while the same Pro plan costs 29 USD per month. A seven-day free trial of the Pro plan, covering ninety minutes of processing, is offered without a credit card. Subscriptions renew automatically and no pro-rated refund is granted on cancellation.

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how OpusClip handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is concrete and documented. The privacy policy, effective 17 November 2025, states legal bases for each category of personal data, lists data subject rights, and names an Article 27 representative for the EU and EEA: White Bison Solutions GmbH, reachable at contact@opus.pro. Opusclip Inc. is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. framework, and relies on standard contractual clauses for onward transfers. The Trust Center lists GDPR alongside SOC 2 Type 2 and SOC 3, and publishes the subprocessor list. Unresolved framework complaints go to BBB National Programs and then to binding arbitration. Two gaps remain: no data protection officer is named, and no customer-facing data processing agreement is published.
Who owns the data?
Under the Terms of Service, anything you upload or generate is a User Submission and your ownership of it is explicitly preserved: the licence you grant is described as "a license only". That licence is nevertheless broad. Opusclip Inc. may translate, technically modify, reproduce, display, perform and distribute your submissions, and the grant is royalty-free, perpetual, sublicensable, irrevocable and worldwide. Material you share publicly may additionally be used for the vendor's own marketing and promotional purposes, and other users receive a licence to access it. Deleting your account stops display of your submissions to other users, except public ones, and the terms concede that complete removal from records may be impossible.
Reuse rights
Users keep the right to reuse and monetise the clips they produce, without asking permission: commercial use is licensed as soon as you are on a paid plan, while the free tier restricts you to personal, non-commercial use of the service. Exports are unwatermarked from the Starter plan upwards and can be downloaded as MP4 or handed to Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve through XML, so nothing locks the footage inside the platform. On the vendor's side, automated systems analyse User Submissions to detect infringement and abuse such as spam, malware and illegal content. The privacy policy also discloses AI research and model-development activities carried out on personal data, against which EU and EEA residents may object under Article 21 GDPR. Nothing on the site states whether customer video content itself feeds model training.

Hosting summary
OpusClip runs on Google Cloud servers located in the United States, and the privacy policy states this plainly. No European data residency option is offered. Personal data is processed and stored outside your country of residence, and transfers out of the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland rely on standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission together with certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. framework. Opusclip Inc. accepts liability for onward transfers to third parties and requires those parties to comply with the framework principles. The jurisdiction for contractual matters is California, and the Terms of Service are governed by California law and the Federal Arbitration Act. Subprocessors are published on the Trust Center and include Google, OpenAI, Stripe, GitHub, Intercom, MongoDB, Redis, WorkOS and Cloudflare. Data protection agreements are said to be in place with all of them.

Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting OpusClip.
- The Terms of Service give two different street numbers for the same company, 2660 and 660 W. Dana Street, and their COPPA clause points to contact@OpusClip.pro, a domain that does not exist; the privacy policy also displays one phone number while its link dials another
- The licence you grant over uploaded and generated content is perpetual, irrevocable and sublicensable, and the terms concede that complete deletion from the vendor's records may not be possible
- The opt-out covering AI research and model development is open only to EU and EEA residents and must be exercised by email rather than through an account setting
- No customer data processing agreement is published, and SOC 2 reports are available only on request, which slows any procurement review
- Targeted advertising and sharing with advertising, analytics and business partners are active by default and may count as a sale or share under several US state privacy laws
- Automated virality scoring encourages optimising for engagement metrics rather than for the substance of the original recording, and heavy reliance on automatic clipping can erode the editorial judgement it replaces
- Marketing claims deserve caution: usage figures, customer logos and an App Store rating of 4.9 out of 5 are asserted without verifiable sourcing, and the supported-countries page still carries a 2025 copyright and a promise of expansion later that year
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low for ordinary use. Nothing is installed: you create a free account, paste a video link or upload a file, and the platform does the rest, which is the point of the vendor's claim that no editing skills are required. The iOS application simply needs downloading on iOS 16 or newer. Automation asks a little more: an API key is self-serve from the pricing page, after which the REST endpoints take a standard bearer token, and the MCP server is added to Claude, Cursor or Codex like any other connector. Non-developers can reach the same automation through Zapier.

Should you pick OpusClip?
OpusClip is one of the more complete tools in the video repurposing segment, and its scope is what sets it apart. Import, clip selection, captioning, reframing, B-roll, dubbing, scheduling and analytics sit in one place, and the ClipAnything model is designed for footage beyond the filmed podcast that most competitors are built around. The addition of Agent Opus, which generates finished videos from a prompt or an audio file, widens the platform from recycling into creation. Behind it is a funded company, Opusclip Inc., backed by SoftBank's Vision Fund 2 and disclosing SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3 and Data Privacy Framework certification.
What distinguishes it most for technical teams is the automation surface. A public REST API and a native MCP server let the whole pipeline run from code or from an AI assistant, which few tools in this category offer, and XML export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve means the work is not trapped in the platform.
The reservations are practical rather than technical. There is no Android application. Access is blocked outside 182 countries. All data lives on Google Cloud in the United States, with no European residency option and no published customer data processing agreement, which will matter to organisations with procurement requirements. Pricing is credit-based, so the real monthly cost depends heavily on volume, and the annual commitment halves the Pro price, a gap worth knowing before subscribing monthly. No pro-rated refund is offered.
For creators, social teams, agencies and media companies working in the supported regions, the free plan and the seven-day Pro trial make it inexpensive to test against a real back catalogue before committing.
