It opens a PDF held on your Mac and lets you question it in conversation. Technically the publisher describes two steps, document ingestion followed by similarity search, with answers citing the passages they came from. There is no upload and no file size limit, and an OCR engine handles scanned documents and complex forms. The app is deliberately not, in the publisher's words, “another 500MB Electron app”: it uses standard macOS system interface components. No account is required. You supply an API key from OpenAI, Azure OpenAI Service or OpenRouter, or rent one instead. Conversation data sits in a local SQLite database and the key goes into the Apple Keychain. Messages can be edited, regenerated or deleted. Requirements are macOS Ventura 13 or later, on Intel or Apple Silicon. GDPR overview
The privacy policy, effective October 13, 2023, includes a dedicated GDPR section. It lists the six data subject rights, namely access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and portability, and states that the publisher has one month to respond to a request. A separate CCPA section covers California residents. Beyond that, disclosure is thin: no EU representative under Article 27 is published, no data processing agreement is offered, and no list of subprocessors appears on the site. Podzim LLC is a United States company and declares no certification. The policy has not been revised since October 13, 2023. In practice, the strongest privacy guarantee here is architectural rather than contractual: documents are processed locally and are never uploaded to the publisher.
Who owns the data?
Documents stay on the user's Mac. Podzim LLC states that files are never uploaded, so the publisher never holds the content of the PDFs a user opens. Application data lives in a local SQLite database that the user can back up, and the API key is stored in the Apple Keychain rather than on a server. There is no cloud vector database. What the publisher does collect is limited: anonymized crash reports containing no personally identifiable information, plus the contact details visitors volunteer on the website and standard server logs. Ownership of the documents themselves therefore remains entirely with the user.
Reuse rights
Website data, meaning contact details given voluntarily plus server logs recording IP address, browser, internet provider, timestamps and entry and exit pages, is used to operate and improve the site, measure audience, communicate with visitors and prevent fraud. Those logs are not tied to an identity. Crash reports serve one purpose only, fixing bugs and improving stability; they are fully anonymized, contain no personally identifiable information, and can be switched off in the app's settings. The content of the PDFs is not sent to Podzim LLC at all: it travels to whichever API provider the user has configured, and is governed there by that provider's own terms rather than by PDF Pals.

Hosting summary
There is no publisher-side hosting of user documents. PDF Pals processes files on the user's Mac and Podzim LLC states that it never uploads them. Application data is kept in a local SQLite database the user can back up or delete, the API key is stored in the Apple Keychain, and no cloud vector database is used. Consequently no hosting country or region is declared for user data, because there is none on the publisher's side. Two flows do leave the machine. The marketing website is served behind Cloudflare, on the anycast address 172.67.183.14, so its pages are delivered from a distributed network rather than one declared location. And the passages sent to the language model travel to whichever API provider the user has configured, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI Service or OpenRouter, which means the jurisdiction applying to that content is the provider's, not PDF Pals'. Users with a data residency requirement should therefore choose their API provider, and its region, accordingly. No data processing agreement or subprocessor list is published by Podzim LLC.
