Overview

What is ProPhotos?

ProPhotos is an AI headshot generator. You upload a batch of ordinary photos of yourself, the service builds an AI model of your face, and it returns a set of studio-style professional portraits. It runs in the browser from a dashboard account and, optionally, through a dedicated iPhone app. The pitch is a straight substitution: replace the traditional photoshoot and, in the site's words, save hundreds of dollars and hours of your time. The homepage claims 12,623,897 headshots generated for 50,382 customers, while the older App Store listing still shows 3,241,981 headshots, 30,000+ customers and Fortune 500 clients - treat both as vendor figures.

Everything is sold as a one-off purchase, in three packs. Starter costs $39 and returns 40 portraits across 8 outfit-and-background combinations, ready in about 90 minutes. Premium costs $49 for 100 portraits, 20 combinations and a free background changer, ready in 45 minutes; the site flags it as the choice of 71% of buyers. Professional costs $59 for 200 portraits, 40 combinations and the same background tool, ready in 30 minutes. There is no subscription, no free plan and no trial on the headshot product itself.

The AI dresses you: suits, coats, shirts and blazers are added on top of your uploaded photos, and backgrounds are swapped for studio, office, bokeh, black, white or grey settings. A Your Face, Any Industry section pushes the idea further, offering executive, chef, doctor, lawyer, real-estate agent, astronaut, farmer, mechanic, barista, firefighter and pilot looks. Dedicated landing pages target healthcare, law, students, teachers and real estate.

Teams are served separately. An enterprise account buys credits, invites employees by email, and both the employee and the account owner can see the results, with consistent backgrounds across the organisation; NXVS Venture Partners is the published case study. Seven free side tools round out the offer, around LinkedIn and the CV.

The publisher is ProPhotos.AI, based in Hollywood, California, and founded by Julian Sarokin, who also runs abby.gg and fixphotos.ai. Generated AI models are deleted automatically after 30 days, and every image you receive comes with a full commercial licence.

Audience

When to use ProPhotos / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if ProPhotos is the right fit.

When to use ProPhotos

  • Healthcare professionals - physicians, nurses, dentists and allied health staff who need a consistent portrait for hospital directories and practice pages.
  • Lawyers, paralegals and legal support staff who need a formal portrait for firm websites and professional directories.
  • Students and early-career job seekers who cannot justify a studio session before applying for internships or first jobs.
  • Teachers, professors and academic advisers who need a presentable photo for faculty pages and school profiles.
  • Teams, startups and enterprises that want visually consistent headshots across the whole organisation, bought as credits and rolled out by email invitation.

When not to use ProPhotos

  • Developers who want to embed headshot generation in their own product: there is no API and no developer documentation.
  • Android users: the only mobile app is for iPhone, and no Android version has been published.
  • Organisations under strict data-governance rules: no GDPR statement, no DPA, no sub-processor list and no published hosting country.
  • Anyone who needs an authentic, unretouched photograph - the output is a generated image, not a real photo.
  • Under-18s and people who need a non-English experience: the terms restrict the service to adults, and the interface and generation are English-only.
Get started

How to use ProPhotos

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Create an account on the ProPhotos dashboard, or start from the Get Started button on the homepage.
  2. Choose a pack: Starter, Premium or Professional - the pack sets how many portraits you get and how fast.
  3. Upload as many personal photos as you can: vary the outfits, the days, the lighting and the poses so the AI has the most information to work with.
  4. Do not bother dressing up for the source photos - the AI adds suits, coats, shirts and blazers on its own.
  5. Pay by card through Stripe and let the generation run: 90 minutes on Starter, 45 on Premium, 30 on Professional.
  6. Download your 40 to 200 portraits once the batch is ready.
  7. Adjust the setting with the background changer if your pack includes it (Premium and Professional).
  8. For an organisation, open an enterprise account instead, buy credits on demand and invite employees by email.
  9. Collect team results from the same place: each portrait is visible to the employee and to the account owner, with consistent backgrounds.
  10. Delete your data when you are done - the delete account option sits in your profile, and AI models disappear after 30 days in any case.

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how ProPhotos handles your data.

GDPR overview

There is no GDPR implementation to report, because there is no mention of the GDPR at all. A search across the archived pages of the site returns zero occurrences of GDPR, CCPA or data protection officer: ProPhotos neither claims compliance nor denies it. No Article 27 EU representative is designated, no DPO is named, no DPA is offered and no legal basis is stated in the regulation's terms, although the privacy policy does set out a detailed list of processing purposes. The posture is US-style: the terms are governed by Californian law, and transfers outside your jurisdiction are accepted without naming standard contractual clauses or any other mechanism. Two points do work in a European user's favour: the terms acknowledge that EU consumers keep the mandatory provisions of their country of residence, and deletion is available from the account settings or by writing to hello@prophotos.ai.

Who owns the data?

ProPhotos grants you a full commercial licence on every image it generates: the homepage FAQ states plainly that you can use your photos anywhere you want, with no further permission to ask. You also keep control of the source material - the account profile carries a delete option you can use at any time, and generated AI models are erased automatically after 30 days. The publisher keeps two rights worth knowing about: it may share your face data with the third-party service providers involved in generating your models, and its privacy policy reserves the right for generated information to be shared and used in marketing materials.

Reuse rights

On your side, reuse is unrestricted: the full commercial licence covers all your AI-generated photos, so you can publish them on LinkedIn, a CV, a company website or a professional directory without asking permission. On the publisher's side, the privacy policy is broader than the product. ProPhotos collects your email, first and last name, usage data, device data, session and persistent cookies and web beacons, and uses your face data - uploaded photos and AI models - to generate your headshot models. That data may be shared with third-party service providers, with affiliates and business partners, in a merger or sale, or with your consent. Payments run through Stripe, with no card data stored on the publisher's servers. Your details may also be used for commercial messaging - news, special offers, similar services - which you can object to. The policy in force is dated 10 December 2024.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Generated AI models are deleted automatically after 30 days - the homepage FAQ, the privacy policy and the About page all say so, the last adding that uploaded images are removed on the same schedule. Personal data is kept for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in the privacy policy, and longer where the publisher has to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce its agreements. Usage data is normally retained for a shorter period, except when it serves to strengthen security, improve the service, or where the law requires a longer retention. You can trigger deletion yourself at any time from your account profile, using the delete account option, or by writing to hello@prophotos.ai. The policy in force is dated 10 December 2024.

Hosting summary

ProPhotos publishes no hosting country and no hosting region. The privacy policy says only that information, personal data included, is processed at the Company's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located - a formulation that names nothing. It then accepts transfers outside your state, province or country, to jurisdictions whose data-protection law may differ, and states that no transfer will take place unless there are adequate controls in place, without naming a mechanism: no standard contractual clauses, no adequacy decision, no certification. Nothing on the site mentions a cloud provider, an encryption standard, SOC 2 or ISO 27001. What can be seen from outside is thin: the domain resolves to 192.124.249.120, in the United States, on AS30148 (Sucuri) - an anycast WAF and CDN node, which tells you where traffic is filtered, not where images are stored. The company is established in California and the terms are governed by Californian law, so US jurisdiction is the reasonable default assumption; it remains an inference, not a published commitment.

Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting ProPhotos.

  • Biometric data: the photos you upload and the AI models built from them may be shared with third-party service providers, and the privacy policy states that generated information may be used in marketing materials.
  • No GDPR posture at all - no compliance claim, no Article 27 EU representative, no DPO, no DPA and no named sub-processor list.
  • No documented way to opt your data out of model training, and no published hosting country or region.
  • The result is a generated image, not a photograph: leaning on a portrait that no longer quite looks like you can misfire in an interview, a client meeting or an identity check.
  • Conflicting age thresholds across the publisher's own documents: 18 in the terms, a 13-year threshold in the privacy policy, a 4+ rating on the App Store listing.
  • Liability is capped at what you paid, or USD 100 if you bought nothing; the terms have not been updated since 10 December 2022 and require you to represent that you are not in a country under US embargo or on a prohibited-parties list.
  • Thin corporate identification: a company name with no legal form, two different postal addresses across the site, a /contact page returning 404, and an App Store listing rated 1.0 from a single review with iOS prices that differ from the web ones.
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Very low. On the web there is nothing to install: create an account, buy a pack, upload your photos and wait. No model settings, no API key, no configuration of any kind. The only real requirement is having enough varied personal photos - different outfits, days, lighting and poses. The iPhone app is optional and needs iOS 13.4 or later (43 MB). On the team side, setup is administrative rather than technical: buy credits and invite employees by email. There is no deployment, no integration and no IT work involved.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to wear a suit in the photos I upload?
No. The AI dresses the subject itself, adding suits, coats, shirts and blazers. What matters is variety in the source photos: different outfits, different days, different lighting and different poses. ProPhotos advises uploading as many photos as you can, so the model has the most information to work with. If your source photos show makeup, the generated portraits will show it too.
How long does it take to get my headshots?
Between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the pack: 90 minutes on Starter, 45 minutes on Premium and 30 minutes on Professional. You receive 40, 100 or 200 portraits respectively.
What does the cheapest pack cost?
Starter is USD 39.00, a one-off purchase covering 40 portraits and 8 outfit-and-background combinations. Premium is USD 49.00 and Professional USD 59.00. There is no free plan and no trial on the headshot product.
Do I own the images, and can I use them commercially?
Yes. ProPhotos grants a full commercial licence on all generated photos - the homepage FAQ says you can use them anywhere you want. Bear in mind that the privacy policy separately reserves the right for generated information to be shared and used in marketing materials.
What happens to my uploaded photos and my AI model?
Generated AI models are deleted automatically after 30 days, and the About page states that uploaded images are removed on the same schedule. You can also delete your account and data yourself at any time from your profile, or write to hello@prophotos.ai.
Can a company order headshots for several employees?
Yes. An enterprise account buys credits on demand and invites employees by email; results are visible to both the employee and the account owner, with consistent backgrounds across the team. Team pricing is not published - the site asks you to sign up for pricing, and quotes a sales reply within 24 hours.
Is there a mobile app or an API?
There is an iPhone app (iOS 13.4 or later, 43 MB) with its own in-app tiers at USD 24.99, 54.99 and 154.99. There is no Android app, and no API: ProPhotos publishes no developer documentation.
Is ProPhotos GDPR compliant?
The site never mentions the GDPR, in either direction: no compliance claim, no Article 27 EU representative, no data protection officer and no DPA. The terms are governed by Californian law and acknowledge that EU consumers keep the mandatory provisions of their country of residence.
Is there a minimum age?
The terms of service require you to be over 18 and state that under-18s are not permitted to use the service. Note that the privacy policy reasons around a 13-year threshold and the App Store listing is rated 4+, so the three documents do not fully agree.
Is payment secure, and how do I reach support?
Payments run through Stripe, and no card data is stored on the publisher's servers. There is a single contact channel, hello@prophotos.ai - the /contact page referenced by the legal documents returns a 404.
Conclusion

Should you pick ProPhotos?

ProPhotos does one thing, and its offer is unusually easy to read: a low entry price, a short wait, and a clear commercial licence on what you get back. At $39 for 40 portraits, the Starter pack sits far below a studio session, and the 30-to-90-minute turnaround means a profile picture can be replaced the same afternoon. The one-off purchase is a genuine convenience - there is nothing to cancel - and the seven LinkedIn and CV side tools cost nothing at all.

The counterpart is governance. ProPhotos publishes no GDPR commitment, no DPA, no sub-processor list and no hosting country, and documents no way to keep your data out of model training. That matters more here than for most tools, because what you upload is biometric: the privacy policy states that face data may be shared with third-party service providers, and that generated information may be used in marketing materials. The automatic deletion of AI models after 30 days is a real mitigation, but it is the only one written down.

Smaller frictions add up. There is no dedicated pricing page, no API and no Android app; the /contact page cited by the legal documents returns a 404; the terms have not been revised since December 2022; iPhone prices differ from web prices; and the App Store listing sits at 1.0 star on a single review. Two different postal addresses appear across the site, and the company name carries no legal form.

For an individual or a team that simply wants a decent profile picture quickly and cheaply, ProPhotos is a reasonable, well-scoped choice. For an organisation with compliance obligations around personal or biometric data, the missing paperwork is the deciding factor, and no price makes up for it.
