Overview

What is Respeecher?

Respeecher is a professional voice cloning and speech synthesis company founded in February 2018 by Alex (Oleksandr) Serdiuk, Dmytro Bielievtsov and Grant Reaber. Ukrainian in origin, it trades through Respeecher, Inc., a Delaware corporation with a postal address in Burbank, California.

The founding idea is speech-to-speech rather than text-to-speech. You supply recordings of a target voice and of a source voice; the system trains on the target, then applies its timbre to the source actor's performance. Because the work happens in the acoustic domain, emotion, timing and everything non-verbal travel with it. The result is a performance re-voiced, not a line read by a machine.

Three product lines sit on that technology. AI Voice Lab is the white-glove route, run by a team of 15+ audio professionals who assess source and target material before any commitment. Respeecher Space is the real-time text-to-speech API, streaming under 200 ms. The Voice Marketplace is self-serve: 40+ AI voices, 20+ accents, licensed celebrity and voice-talent voices, and an Avid Pro Tools plugin. Audio is delivered at 48 kHz as raw recordings, with mixing left to the client.

The credits are unusual for the category. Respeecher voiced young Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, James Earl Jones in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Viktor Vektor in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Wilt Chamberlain in Goliath and Vince Lombardi in a Super Bowl LV spot. It refined Hungarian pronunciation for Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones in The Brutalist and handled sung numbers in Emilia Perez. By March 2025, projects using Respeecher had drawn 20+ Academy Award nominations, alongside a 2021 Emmy, Webby awards in 2023 and 2024 and World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer status in 2025.

Uses reach beyond entertainment: restoring speech for patients with Parkinson's, ALS or vocal cord paralysis, vishing prevention and penetration testing in cybersecurity, e-learning. The company is equally explicit about limits. Real-time conversion is still in beta, deployed case by case for enterprise clients. The system is trained mostly on English, so speech-to-speech in other languages can carry a faint residual English accent.

What it does

  • Convert a recorded performance into another voice while keeping emotion and intonation intact
  • Generate speech from text, including real-time streaming under 200 ms of latency
  • De-age or age a voice to hold continuity across a timeline
  • Recreate the voice of a performer who has died, with the agreement of the rights holders
  • Correct or refine pronunciation and accent in post-production
  • Clone a singing voice, including across languages
  • Draw on a library of 40+ licensed AI voices and route them into Pro Tools or a voice agent
Audience

When to use Respeecher / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Respeecher is the right fit.

When to use Respeecher

  • Film, television and animation productions that need a voice holding up at broadcast quality
  • Game studios casting character voices, de-aging a performer or preserving an actor's voice
  • Dubbing and localization teams that want to keep the source actor's performance across languages
  • Podcast, audiobook and advertising producers looking for a consistent brand voice
  • Developers wiring a voice into a conversational agent through the real-time TTS API

When not to use Respeecher

  • Anyone hoping to clone a private person's or an actor's voice without written consent, which Respeecher refuses on principle
  • Deceptive uses and deepfakes, expressly banned by the acceptable use policy
  • Teams needing real-time conversion, or conversion into their own voice: both are custom-plan territory, not available in the self-serve Marketplace
  • Producers expecting a finished mix, since Respeecher returns raw recordings and post-production stays on the client's side
  • Commercial users above 1 million USD in annual revenue, who are eligible only for the custom subscription plan, and anyone running commercial work on the free trial, which the terms forbid

How to use Respeecher

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Decide which door fits: self-serve Voice Marketplace, real-time API, or the accompanied AI Voice Lab
  2. For self-serve, create an account on the Voice Marketplace and start the 3-day free trial
  3. Browse the voice library, pick a voice, then choose text-to-speech or speech-to-speech
  4. For speech-to-speech, record with a good microphone in a quiet room and calibrate your voice before converting
  5. Generate, download the raw audio and finish the mix in your own session
  6. Install the Avid Pro Tools plugin if you would rather stay inside the edit
  7. For the API, create a key in the Playground and send it as an X-API-Key header on every request, including the WebSocket handshake
  8. Fetch the list of voices first, then generate through the Bytes endpoint, Server-Sent Events streaming or WebSockets
  9. Use the Python or TypeScript SDK, or follow the LiveKit, Pipecat, Ultravox and VAPI integration guides
  10. For the AI Voice Lab, go through the contact form (business inquiries only): the team reviews your isolated, high-quality vocal tracks and requires the voice owner's written consent before any custom cloning project

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Quality proven on award-winning productions, from Oscar-winning films to an Emmy, Webby and Clio awards
  • Keeps the acted performance rather than generating from text alone, so emotion and timing survive the conversion
  • Documented consent chain and a detailed public ethics policy, with at least 25% of revenue shared with voice talents
  • Human support from a team of sound engineers on the AI Voice Lab offer
  • Very low entry pricing: 2 USD per hour on the API and credit packs from 5 USD, with no subscription required and cancellation at any time
  • Documented developer path with Python and TypeScript SDKs, guides for four voice-agent frameworks, and a Pro Tools plugin for the edit session
  • The customer owns the content produced under section VIII of the terms, and commercial use is allowed on every plan except the free trial

Cons

  • No permanent free plan: past the 3-day trial, everything is paid
  • Real-time conversion, and conversion into your own voice or a voice you hold recordings of, are custom-plan only
  • No documented option to exclude your data from AI voice model training
  • No hosting country or region published, and no sub-processor list
  • Credits are non-refundable and expire one year after purchase, fees are non-refundable absent written agreement, and cancellation requires 60 days' notice
  • Mostly English-trained, so other languages can carry a residual English accent, and output quality is capped by the training material supplied
  • Raw recordings only, with post-production and mixing left to the client, and no mobile application
Pricing

Pricing & Plans

Respeecher does not offer a permanent free plan. A 3-day free trial is available on the Voice Marketplace, during which commercial use is not permitted. Pricing is then split across three grids. The lowest paid entry point is a pack of 5 credits at 5 USD, equivalent to 20,000 text-to-speech characters or 5 minutes of speech-to-speech. The cheapest subscription is TTS only at 18 USD per month, offered at 9 USD for the first month. The Respeecher Space real-time API is billed at 2 USD per hour, roughly 2 USD per 60,000 characters, with no subscription and cancellation at any time. All payments are made in US dollars. Enterprise pricing is quoted on request, with volume discounts. Fees are non-refundable unless otherwise agreed in writing, and credits expire one year after purchase.

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Respeecher handles your data.

GDPR overview

The privacy policy addresses California, EEA and UK residents explicitly, and its GDPR footing is concrete rather than declarative. Legal bases are listed purpose by purpose: performance of the contract, consent, legitimate interest and legal obligation. EEA and UK rights are enumerated, covering access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection including to direct marketing, withdrawal of consent and portability, together with the right to complain to the competent supervisory authority. Transfers outside the EEA and UK are framed by Standard Contractual Clauses with supplementary measures where needed. Rights are exercised at info@respeecher.com, an EEA/UK data protection representative is named (Anna Bulakh, ab@respeecher.com) and security incidents go to security@respeecher.com. Two limits: the site is not intended for under-13s, and the policy carries no effective date, whereas the terms are dated July 17, 2024.

Who owns the data?

Section VIII of the terms of use splits ownership cleanly: Respeecher owns all right, title and interest in the Services, while the customer owns all right, title and interest in Customer Data, meaning everything uploaded plus the voice content generated from that material. To run the service, the customer grants Respeecher a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to reproduce and use that data, but only to the extent required to deliver the service. Aggregated Statistics, once anonymized and de-identified, belong to Respeecher. Any feedback sent to the company is assigned without compensation and treated as non-confidential. The privacy policy adds that no personal information is sold to third parties.

Reuse rights

Generated audio belongs to the customer and can be reused commercially without asking further permission on every paid plan; only the free trial forbids commercial use, and the acceptable use policy applies throughout. On Respeecher's side, the Ethics page states that client data is used exclusively for training AI voice models, and the terms reserve the right to listen to the recordings users produce in order to prevent abuse and content breaching the ethics policy. Usage is monitored and compiled into anonymized aggregate statistics for internal and analytical purposes. Device information, logs, cookies, IP addresses, access identifiers and IP-based geolocation are collected as well, alongside personal identifiers such as name, email, phone, industry, company and electronic activity. Declared purposes are service delivery, communication, marketing with consent, security, merger-and-acquisition operations and the defense of legal rights. Site visitors are additionally profiled by Leadinfo B.V. (Rotterdam), which identifies visiting companies by IP with an opt-out on its own site, and by a US advertising partner matching visits to email addresses, which also offers an opt-out. No documented mechanism lets a customer exclude their data from voice model training.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Section VI of the privacy policy sets a purpose-bound rule rather than a clock: personal information is kept for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes it was collected for, including satisfying legal, accounting and reporting requirements. Duration is weighed against the amount, nature and sensitivity of the data, the necessity and purposes of the processing, whether those purposes could be achieved another way, and the risk of harm. Exceptional cases such as ongoing litigation extend retention. No figure is given anywhere. Deletion can be requested, through erasure for EEA and UK residents and CCPA rights for Californians, at info@respeecher.com. Published California response times are 10 business days to acknowledge, generally 45 days to answer and 15 business days for an opt-out of sale. Service credits expire one year after purchase, but that is a commercial rule, not a retention period.

Hosting summary

Respeecher publishes almost nothing about where data physically lives. The terms of use describe a cloud-hosted solution without naming a provider, a data center or a region. The privacy policy is only marginally more specific: personal data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, notably to the United States, and such transfers are framed by Standard Contractual Clauses with supplementary measures where required. A copy of the transfer mechanisms in place can be requested at info@respeecher.com. At network level the site is served behind Cloudflare on an anycast address (172.66.42.247, AS13335), which tells you where the site is delivered from but nothing about where audio and account data are stored. A targeted search across the collected pages returned no hosting country and no hosting region. Enterprise customers can negotiate an on-premise deployment, the only documented way to control the location of processing. Where residency matters, establish it contractually before signing rather than infer it from the public pages.

Availability

Where Respeecher works

Country-level availability.

Not available in

No country or region restriction is declared on the site. The terms of use only recall that the service is subject to US export control laws and prohibit exporting, re Exporting or making it available in any embargoed jurisdiction, without naming a single country.
Watch-outs

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Respeecher.

  • Client data feeds the training of AI voice models and no opt-out is documented anywhere on the site
  • Respeecher contractually reserves the right to listen to the recordings users produce, to prevent abuse and content breaching its ethics policy
  • A convincing synthetic voice is a social-engineering tool as much as a creative one: the consent chain protects you only if you actually document it, project by project
  • Leaning on synthetic voice can quietly erode the craft, and the livelihood, of the performers behind it; the revenue share softens the question without settling it
  • Commercial terms bite: credits are non-refundable and expire after a year, the initial subscription runs a year then renews monthly, and cancellation needs 60 days' notice
  • Eligibility is capped: above 1 million USD in annual revenue commercial use is restricted to the custom plan, and commercial use during the free trial is forbidden outright
  • Documentary blind spots: no hosting location, no sub-processor list, an AICPA SOC badge in the footer pointing to aicpa.org/soc4so without naming any SOC 2 report, an EEA/UK data protection representative who is an internal employee, and no availability or uptime guarantee in the terms
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Difficulty depends on which door you use. The Voice Marketplace needs no technical skill: sign up and generate. The Pro Tools plugin is a standard install into an existing workstation. The API is intermediate: create a key in the Playground, send it as an X-API-Key header, then call REST or WebSocket endpoints, with Python and TypeScript SDKs and guides for LiveKit, Pipecat, Ultravox and VAPI. The AI Voice Lab is not self-serve: it requires a sales conversation and a data assessment. Quality depends throughout on isolated, high-quality vocal tracks recorded on a good microphone in a quiet room.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between speech-to-speech and text-to-speech?
Speech-to-speech converts an acted performance into another voice and carries emotion, timing and non-verbal detail with it. Text-to-speech starts from written text alone. Respeecher offers both, and the choice usually comes down to whether a performance already exists.
Can I use someone else's voice?
Only with that person's consent, formalized in a signed agreement. Respeecher requires written permission from the voice owner for every cloning project and refuses requests made without it.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, a 3-day free trial on the Voice Marketplace. Commercial use is not permitted during the trial; it becomes available on the paid plans.
What is the cheapest way to start?
A pack of 5 credits at 5 USD on the Marketplace, worth 20,000 text-to-speech characters or 5 minutes of speech-to-speech. On the real-time API, usage is billed at 2 USD per hour.
Is there an API?
Yes. Respeecher Space is a real-time text-to-speech API documented at space.respeecher.com/docs. Requests carry an X-API-Key header and run through a Bytes endpoint, Server-Sent Events or WebSockets, with Python and TypeScript SDKs available.
Which languages can I generate in?
In speech-to-speech you can speak whichever language you like, though a faint residual English accent may remain because the system is trained mostly on English. The TTS API covers major world languages and several English accents, including US and UK.
Is real-time voice conversion available?
Not in the Voice Marketplace. Real-time conversion is still in beta and is deployed case by case on custom plans.
Who owns the audio I generate?
The customer. Section VIII of the terms of use gives the customer all right, title and interest in Customer Data, which covers uploaded material and the voice content generated from it. Audio arrives at 48 kHz as raw recordings, so mixing remains your responsibility.
Where is the data hosted?
Not disclosed. The terms describe a cloud-hosted service without naming a provider or a region, and the privacy policy states that personal data may be transferred outside the EEA and the UK, notably to the United States, under Standard Contractual Clauses.
Is there a mobile app?
No. No iOS or Android application is referenced by Respeecher; the product is used through the web Marketplace, the Pro Tools plugin or the API.
Conclusion

Should you pick Respeecher?

Respeecher plays a different game from most AI voice tools. It competes on quality and on the traceability of rights rather than on volume, and its credibility rests on award-winning productions rather than on usage metrics: Oscar-winning films, prestige television, a Super Bowl spot, a major game. That pedigree is the clearest signal a buyer gets, and it is rare in this category.

Three doors lead in, and they suit very different people. The AI Voice Lab is an accompanied service, gated by a conversation with sound engineers who first assess your material. The Voice Marketplace is self-serve, cheap to test and immediate. Respeecher Space is a developer API at 2 USD per hour, with SDKs and guides for four voice-agent frameworks. Judging the company as a single product misses the point: pick the door first, then judge the price.

The ethics posture is more substantial than a marketing page, with written consent for every voice, refusal of deceptive uses and at least 25% of revenue shared with voice talents. It is also the reason some doors stay shut: converting into your own voice, or in real time, requires a custom plan.

Three gaps deserve attention before committing. No hosting country or region is published anywhere on the site. No documented option lets you exclude your data from voice model training, while the Ethics page states that client data is used exclusively to train AI voice models. No sub-processor list exists. Add non-refundable credits expiring after a year, 60 days' cancellation notice and no permanent free plan, and the commercial terms reward reading before buying. For rights-sensitive, broadcast-grade work, few alternatives are this well documented; for casual experimentation, size the commitment carefully before you sign.
