SheetMagic
SheetMagic is a Google Sheets add-on that puts AI and web scraping inside spreadsheet cells. It combines 63 custom functions with a conversational chat agent that writes, scrapes and formats on request.
What is SheetMagic?
SheetMagic is a Google Sheets extension distributed through the Google Workspace Marketplace that brings AI generation and web scraping into ordinary spreadsheet cells. It works in two complementary ways. The first is 63 custom functions: 21 core formulas covering AI, scraping and page data, plus 42 platform-specific scrapers. Writing =AITEXT("Write a product description for: " & A1) and dragging it down a column produces unique output for every row, while =AMAZONSEARCH() or =EBAYSOLD() spills a full table of results into the sheet. Other formulas handle images, video, speech, translation and vision, read any URL up to 50,000 characters, extract elements by CSS selector, return search results, audit page metadata or check domain availability.
The second route is the AI Chat Agent, introduced in July 2026. It is a conversational sidebar that reads the active sheet and acts on it: writing cells, formatting, building charts and pivot tables, and choosing the right scraper without the user naming one. It carries more than 25 tools and asks for confirmation before anything writes to the sheet or spends credits.
Models come from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Mistral, OpenRouter and Perplexity, and every model is available on every plan, including the free one. Real-time web search works through OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity models. Usage runs on two separate meters: AI tokens for anything the AI writes or reads, and integration credits for anything fetched from the web. Both reset each billing cycle and do not roll over. All paid plans include BYOK, letting users connect their own provider keys for unlimited AI usage plus fifty per cent more integration credits.
The add-on is published by Very Very Good Ventures, LLC, has been on the Marketplace since March 2024, and claims more than 6,400 users and a 4.8/5 rating from over 140 reviews.

When to use SheetMagic / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if SheetMagic is the right fit.
When to use SheetMagic
- SEO specialists auditing meta tags, headings and search rankings across hundreds of URLs at a time
- E-commerce and marketplace teams tracking competitor prices, Amazon rankings and sold listings
- Sales and lead generation teams turning raw company URLs into enriched, qualified prospect sheets
- Content and marketing teams producing descriptions, translations or social copy row by row at volume
- Data analysts who already live in Google Sheets and want classification, extraction and cleanup without code
When not to use SheetMagic
- Microsoft Excel users: the product is built on Google Apps Script and does not run in Excel at all
- Anyone needing to work from a phone, since the Google Sheets mobile app supports neither add-ons nor custom functions
- Teams hoping one subscription will cover every collaborator, as each person running formulas needs their own licence
- Organisations with formal compliance requirements, given the absence of a DPA, a subprocessor list or a stated hosting country
- Users who need to pull data from behind a login, a paywall or any other access control, which the scrapers deliberately refuse
How to use SheetMagic
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Install SheetMagic from the Google Workspace Marketplace, a step the publisher times at under thirty seconds
- Authorise access to your spreadsheets through Google OAuth2
- Let the licence validate automatically from your Google account, or enter it under Extensions then SheetMagic then License Status
- Open a Google Sheet on a desktop browser, since the mobile app cannot run add-ons
- Type a first formula such as =AITEXT("Write a product description for: " & A1) and press enter
- Reference neighbouring cells with the & operator so each row gets its own personalised prompt
- Drag the formula down the column to process hundreds or thousands of rows in one pass
- Pick your preferred model from the sidebar under Extensions then SheetMagic then Open Sidebar
- Open the AI Chat Agent instead and describe a multi-step job in plain English when no formula fits
- Add your own provider keys under Set API keys to switch on BYOK, and clear the cache when you need a genuine recalculation
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Every formula and every AI model is available on every plan, including the free one; tiers differ only by monthly volume
- No technical skill required, since the whole product is driven by ordinary spreadsheet formula syntax
- AI and scraping live in the same tool, removing the CSV export step that competing scraping platforms impose
- BYOK turns AI usage unlimited at provider cost and adds fifty per cent more integration credits
- The free tier is permanent, needs no credit card and its allowance never expires
- Pricing is unusually transparent: two separate meters, a published per-source credit cost and no overage fees
- The product is actively maintained, with eight releases during 2026 and a 4.8/5 rating over 140+ reviews
Cons
- Google Sheets only: no Excel support and no mobile use whatsoever
- Subscriptions are non-refundable, so the free tier is the only way to try before committing
- Every collaborator who wants to run functions needs their own paid licence, not just the sheet owner
- Unused AI tokens and integration credits are wiped at each billing cycle and never roll over
- Data governance is thin: no DPA, no subprocessor list, no EU representative and no declared hosting country
- No postal address or legal notice is published anywhere on the site
- The legal texts date from October 2025 and now contradict the product, still describing personal API keys as mandatory
Pricing & Plans
SheetMagic offers a permanent free plan rather than a time-limited trial, granting a one-time allowance of 20,000 AI tokens and 100 integration credits with no credit card and no expiry. Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how SheetMagic handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR implementation is minimal and never claimed outright. The word appears once on the whole site, in a FAQ entry asking whether SheetMagic is SOC 2 or GDPR compliant; the answer sidesteps the question, argues that the product processes little data, and refers enterprise compliance needs to a sales conversation. There is no Data Processing Agreement, no published subprocessor list, no Article 27 EU representative and no named Data Protection Officer. No legal basis, no retention period and no formal data subject request procedure are documented. The one concrete right offered is account termination, which the privacy policy says removes personal information from the servers permanently. The publisher is a United States company with no declared EU presence, and the privacy policy was last updated on 21 October 2025.
Who owns the data?
Users keep their spreadsheet content: the publisher states it does not store, log or access prompts, responses or sheet data, and describes itself as a bridge between Google Sheets and the chosen AI provider. Very Very Good Ventures, LLC holds only account details voluntarily supplied, namely name and email, plus usage analytics counting function calls rather than their content. API keys sit in Google Apps Script's encrypted Properties Service, tied to the user's Google account and never sent to the publisher. Access is confined to the active spreadsheet, not the wider Drive. Note a genuine tension: the privacy policy also says prompts, logs and API keys are shared with third-party AI tools including OpenAI.
Reuse rights
Nothing on the site restricts what users do with the output. Generated text, images, video, speech and scraped rows land directly in the user's own spreadsheet, and no clause claims a licence over them or requires permission before commercial reuse. The stated limits sit elsewhere. Scraping functions return publicly available data only and never reach content behind a login or paywall, and users alone carry responsibility for honouring each scraped site's terms of use, its robots directives and applicable data protection, copyright and anti-circumvention law. Account data collected by the publisher serves to run the service, answer enquiries, send security alerts and personalise the experience. Under BYOK, the user's own provider settings govern how prompts are handled downstream.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
The site discloses no hosting information at all. No country, no region and no infrastructure provider is named anywhere in the privacy policy, the terms of service or any product page, and targeted searching for hosting, data residency or server location returned nothing. Only indirect signals exist, and they should be treated as such rather than as vendor statements: the domain resolves to an anycast Google address geolocated in the United States, the add-on itself executes inside Google Apps Script, and API keys remain in Google's Properties Service tied to the user's own account. Prompts travel onward to whichever AI provider the user selects, so part of the processing chain is chosen by the customer rather than the publisher. The company behind the tool, Very Very Good Ventures, LLC, is registered in the United States and declares no European presence. Anyone with data residency obligations should ask the vendor directly before deploying.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting SheetMagic.
- Subscriptions cannot be refunded once purchased, so the free tier is the only genuine way to test before paying
- The headline price of USD 14 per month shown on the homepage is the annual rate; billed monthly, the entry plan costs USD 20
- You carry full legal responsibility for every site you scrape, including its terms of use, its robots directives and applicable copyright and data protection law
- Tokens and credits vanish at the end of each cycle, which can push users into buying packs simply to avoid losing an allowance
- Results are cached by default, so an unchanged cell may look like a fault when it is actually a saved API call
- Bulk AI generation makes it easy to publish hundreds of unreviewed rows, and the vendor itself warns that AI output is not guaranteed accurate
- The privacy policy and the FAQ disagree on whether prompts and API keys reach third parties, and no hosting country is disclosed
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Very low. Installation runs in roughly three minutes across four steps: install from the Google Workspace Marketplace, authorise through Google OAuth2, let the licence validate automatically from your Google account, then type a formula. No coding is involved, and anyone comfortable with =SUM() can use every function. The only real friction is creating provider API keys, and that applies solely to users who choose BYOK. One published user testimonial notes a slower start than advertised, and the FAQ carries troubleshooting guidance for invalid keys, quotas, caching and rate limits.

Should you pick SheetMagic?
SheetMagic answers a narrow question well: how to stop shuttling between a scraping tool, an AI chat window and a spreadsheet. By putting 63 functions and a conversational agent inside Google Sheets, it lets a marketer, an SEO or an analyst do bulk generation and bulk collection where the data already sits. The pricing deserves credit for its honesty. Every formula and every model is available on every tier, including the free one, so the plans differ only by monthly volume rather than by withheld features. The per-source credit cost is published openly, a public calculator lets you estimate a month before paying, and there are no overage fees. BYOK is a genuine escape hatch for heavy users, making AI usage unlimited at provider rates. The product also looks well maintained, with eight releases across 2026 and the Chat Agent arriving in July.
The reservations are real and worth weighing. Data governance is thin for anything resembling an enterprise deployment: no Data Processing Agreement, no subprocessor list, no EU representative, no stated hosting jurisdiction, and no explicit GDPR commitment anywhere. The legal texts date from October 2025 and have fallen behind the product, still describing personal API keys as compulsory when they are now optional. The privacy policy's mention of sharing prompts, logs and keys with third parties also sits uneasily beside the FAQ's assurance that the publisher accesses nothing. Add non-refundable subscriptions and a per-person licence requirement, and the free tier becomes the sensible way in. For teams already working in Google Sheets, it is a strong and unusually transparent tool; for regulated environments, the paperwork is not there yet.
