Overview

What is Survalyzer?

Survalyzer is a survey and feedback management platform published by Survalyzer AG, a Zurich company entered in the Swiss commercial register on 2 May 2005 under the name NetQuestionnaires AG. It traded as NetQuestionnaires Schweiz AG from that September and took its current name in October 2011; the twenty-plus years the site advertises therefore belong to the legal entity, not to the brand. The software itself has been rebuilt twice, from the original Collector to Survalyzer Classic in 2016 and to the cloud-native Survalyzer Next Generation in 2020.

The pitch is consolidation. Rather than stitching a questionnaire tool to a panel provider, a translation service and a dashboard product, Survalyzer covers four stages in a single platform: build, distribute, analyse and act. Building draws on more than a hundred question types and research methods, including automated MaxDiff, implicit association tests, Kano, Van Westendorp price sensitivity and A/B designs, with survey logic that stretches to loops, reusable lists and JavaScript scripting. Distribution runs over email, SMS, links, access codes, an in-house panel or paid Dynata panels. Analysis produces live reports, cross-tabulations, weighting, significance testing and Key Driver Analysis. The act stage routes alerts and tasks to the managers who can do something about them.

Eight AI features sit across that chain: survey generation, translation into sixty-five-plus languages, anonymisation, sentiment scoring, topic extraction with a generic or custom-trained model, text analytics, summaries and AI follow-up questions.

Two audiences are addressed explicitly. CX covers customer satisfaction, NPS, touchpoint surveys and brand research; EX covers employee opinion surveys, pulse checks and 360-degree feedback. The publisher reports more than five hundred clients, five hundred thousand surveys and twenty-five million interviews, naming Volkswagen, Fraport, Deutsche Post DHL, HypoVereinsbank and Zürcher Kantonalbank among them. A separate developer centre documents a public REST API in both the Swiss and the EU data centre, alongside webhooks and client libraries.

What it does

  • Build questionnaires from more than a hundred question types and research methods, or generate them with AI from a prompt or an existing draft
  • Distribute surveys by email, SMS, shareable link, access codes or a paid Dynata panel, with scheduled invitations and reminders
  • Analyse open comments automatically for sentiment, recurring topics and executive summaries
  • Translate surveys and reports into more than sixty-five languages in one click
  • Strip personal information out of free-text answers before results are shared with stakeholders
  • Build live reports and dashboards, then export them to PowerPoint, PDF, Excel or Word
  • Trigger surveys from a CRM or HR system and push responses back through webhooks or the public API

When to use Survalyzer / When not to

A quick filter to help you decide if Survalyzer is the right fit.

When to use Survalyzer

  • Market research institutes and insight teams that need automated methods such as MaxDiff, implicit association testing, Kano or Van Westendorp rather than a plain questionnaire builder
  • Customer experience managers running continuous NPS, CSAT and Customer Effort Score programmes with closed-loop follow-up
  • HR and people teams running employee opinion surveys, pulse checks and 360-degree feedback across large workforces
  • Regulated organisations such as banks, insurers, hospitals, universities and public bodies that must keep survey data inside a named jurisdiction
  • IT and operations teams that need surveys wired into a CRM, an HRIS or a BI stack through the public API, webhooks and SSO

When not to use Survalyzer

  • Individuals or small teams on a modest budget: the entry tier costs 420 EUR per month and there is no permanently free plan
  • Anyone needing a single one-off questionnaire, since Professional carries a three-month minimum term and licences renew for twelve months at a time
  • Buyers whose main reason to subscribe is AI, because the Professional tier includes none of the eight AI features; they start at Expert on 920 EUR per month
  • Teams that want a native mobile app: no iOS or Android application exists, and the product is used through the browser
  • Procurement processes that require a published data processing agreement, a subprocessor list or a certificate number before signing, none of which the site publishes

How to use Survalyzer

A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.

  1. Start either by opening a free trial account, which needs no credit card, or by booking the thirty-minute guided demonstration
  2. Pick the tier that matches the work: Professional for standard research, Expert once AI analysis or advanced methods are needed, Enterprise for multi-team programmes
  3. Set up workspaces so that clients, departments or projects stay separated from one another
  4. Choose the data centre, Swiss or EU, that your jurisdiction requires
  5. Build the questionnaire in the visual editor, import it from Excel, SPSS or JSON, or have the AI draft it from a prompt
  6. Apply logic, randomisation, filters and reusable lists, then brand the survey to match your corporate design
  7. Translate the questionnaire, automatically if you want the AI to do the first pass, and review it in the translation editor
  8. Distribute through email, SMS, a link list or a panel, scheduling invitations and reminders in advance
  9. Watch responses land in live reports, then filter, cross-tabulate, weight and run significance tests on them
  10. Wire the results into your other systems through Zapier, webhooks, the public API or scheduled file exchange

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The whole research cycle runs in one platform, so no third-party translation, panel or dashboard tool is strictly required
  • Genuine data sovereignty: the buyer picks the Swiss or the EU data centre, and the publisher states that data stays within its jurisdiction
  • ISO 27001 certification attributed to a named body, TÜV Süd, with externally run security audits twice a year
  • Unlimited surveys, questions, responses and emails from the entry tier upward, with no monthly caps or overage charges
  • Methodological depth that general-purpose survey tools rarely match, from MaxDiff and Kano to weighting and significance testing
  • A documented public API in both data centres, with webhooks and client libraries, rather than an integration marketplace only
  • Twenty years of continuous trading that can be checked in the Swiss commercial register rather than taken on trust

Cons

  • The entry point is 420 EUR per month for two users, and there is no permanently free plan
  • None of the eight AI features is included at Professional level; reaching them means Expert at 920 EUR per month, more than twice the price
  • Commitment is real: a three-month minimum term on Professional, automatic twelve-month renewal unless cancelled in writing two months ahead, and annual invoicing in advance
  • No customer-facing data processing agreement, no subprocessor list and no dedicated security page are published anywhere on the site
  • The ISO 27001 claim carries no certificate number, and the site contradicts itself on the year, giving 2020 in one place and 2021 in another
  • No EU Article 27 representative is named, even though the publisher sits outside the EU and sells into it
  • No native mobile application exists, and the published terms and conditions have not been revised since January 2020

Trust & Privacy

Data, GDPR & hosting

A consolidated view of how Survalyzer handles your data.

GDPR overview

Survalyzer states GDPR compliance explicitly and repeatedly, and names a data protection officer: Giovanni Bonomi, reachable at the company's Zurich address and at a dedicated mailbox. The privacy policy sets out the full catalogue of data subject rights, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection under Article 21 and the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Transport is encrypted, and customers choose whether their data sits in the Swiss or the EU data centre. Two gaps matter. The published privacy policy covers the marketing website only: it documents Google Analytics, AdWords, Vimeo and Lead Forensics, not the survey platform where respondent data actually lives. And although the publisher is established in Switzerland, outside the EU, no Article 27 EU representative is named anywhere.

Who owns the data?

The general terms and conditions, in force since 1 January 2020, are written from the licensor's side and grant the customer a non-exclusive, geographically unrestricted right to use the platform for the agreed number of users. Survalyzer AG states that it treats everything it learns as strictly confidential, protects it from third-party access including its own staff not involved in the contract, and keeps those obligations alive after the contract ends. On personal data it is explicit: the company undertakes to use it solely to fulfil the contractual agreement and, in particular, not to pass it to third parties. Customers remain responsible for the confidentiality of their own credentials.

Reuse rights

The terms do not restrict what customers do with the responses they collect: nothing in the contract requires them to ask Survalyzer AG before exporting, reusing or publishing their own survey data, and the platform ships exports to Excel, SPSS, PowerPoint, PDF and Word precisely so that the material leaves the tool. Two clauses cut the other way and deserve attention before signing. Article 7.1 states that the customer agrees to the use of its company name and logo on Survalyzer's public reference page, for an indefinite period, unless agreed otherwise; opting out is therefore a negotiation, not a setting. Article 8 places the software and its documentation under the export control laws of the United States, Switzerland and Germany, and forbids passing them to authorities or to sanctioned parties without prior written consent. Nothing in the published documents addresses whether customer content may be used to train the vendor's AI models, in either direction.

Data retention & training

Retention summary
Survalyzer publishes no retention period for the survey platform itself. What it offers instead is a control: rule-based anonymisation and retention management is an account feature available from the entry tier, so customers set their own rules rather than inheriting a vendor default. The retention rules that are published concern the marketing website. Contact form submissions are kept until you ask for erasure, withdraw consent or the purpose lapses, subject to statutory retention periods; registration data is kept while the account exists and deleted afterwards; Google Analytics data is anonymised or deleted after fourteen months. The terms and conditions contain no clause on retention or on returning data when a contract ends, which is worth raising before signing.

Hosting summary

Survalyzer runs two data centres and lets the customer choose between them: Zurich for Swiss customers and Amsterdam for customers in the European Union. The publisher's formulation is that data remains within its jurisdiction, and the choice is not reserved for large accounts, since selecting the EU or Swiss data centre is listed as an account feature from the entry tier upward. Switzerland benefits from a European Commission adequacy decision, so neither option requires transfer safeguards for EU personal data. Two limits are worth recording. The publisher names no hosting provider and publishes no subprocessor list, so the infrastructure behind those two locations is not disclosed. Separately, the marketing website itself is served from a content delivery network rather than from either data centre; that concerns the public pages only, not customer survey data, and the publisher makes no claim about it either way.

Things to keep in mind

Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Survalyzer.

  • The privacy policy published on the site covers the marketing website only, documenting Google Analytics, AdWords, Vimeo and Lead Forensics; it does not describe how respondent data inside the survey platform is handled, so any GDPR assurance drawn from it is weaker than it looks
  • No data processing agreement and no subprocessor list are published, which matters because survey platforms routinely process personal data on a controller's behalf; request both in writing before deployment
  • The ISO 27001 claim names a certification body but no certificate number, and the site itself gives two different years, 2020 and 2021; ask for the certificate and check its scope covers the platform rather than a subset
  • No EU Article 27 representative is named although the publisher is established in Switzerland, outside the EU, and markets into it
  • The advertised twenty years of experience belong to the legal entity, which dates from 2005; the Survalyzer brand itself only dates from October 2011, and the product has been rebuilt twice since
  • Under article 7.1 of the terms, subscribing grants Survalyzer AG the right to display your company name and logo on its public reference page for an indefinite period unless you negotiate otherwise
  • Surveys make it easy to generate large volumes of opinion quickly, and AI sentiment scoring makes it easy to act on them without reading them; treat automated topic and sentiment output as a triage aid rather than as a finding, particularly in employee feedback where the stakes for individuals are high
Setup

Setup & Integrations

Technical difficulty

Low to moderate, and it scales with ambition. Standard use is designed to need no programming: the editor is visual, and product onboarding is included from the entry tier. Expert buyers get their initial branding built for them by the Survalyzer team during onboarding. Difficulty rises with the advanced layer, where scripting, centralised lists and looped sections assume a technical user, and with integrations, which are self-service on Professional and Expert but custom-built at Enterprise level. Single sign-on becomes available at Expert. Enterprise deployments set their implementation timeline with a dedicated onboarding professional.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free trial, and does it need a credit card?
Yes. Survalyzer offers a free trial of both the Professional and the Expert tiers, and states that no credit card is required. The trial gives full access to the platform so it can be tested with your own surveys.
Are there limits on how many surveys or responses I can run?
No. From the Professional tier upward, surveys, questions, responses and emails are unlimited. The publisher states there are no monthly caps and no overage charges.
Where is my data hosted?
In one of two data centres, chosen by the customer: Zurich for Swiss customers and Amsterdam for EU customers. The publisher states that data remains within its jurisdiction, and the data centre choice is available from the entry tier onward.
Does Survalyzer have an API?
Yes. A separate developer centre documents a public REST API for both the Swiss and the EU data centre, together with authentication, filtering and paging, webhooks, code examples and client libraries.
Which AI features are included, and at which price?
Eight: survey creation, translation, anonymisation, sentiment analysis, topic extraction, text analytics, summaries and AI follow-up questions. None of them is included at Professional level. They begin at the Expert tier, which costs 920 EUR per month.
How can surveys be distributed?
By email, SMS or a shareable link, through access codes that restrict who may answer and how often, through your own panel, or through third-party and paid Dynata panels with built-in quota management.
Which languages does the platform support?
The website and interface are available in English, German and Dutch. Separately, the AI translation feature covers more than sixty-five languages for surveys and reports, and surveys themselves can be run multilingually.
Is there a mobile app?
No. Searches of both the Apple and the Google stores return no Survalyzer application, and the site carries no store badges. The platform is used through a web browser.
What contractual commitment does a subscription involve?
The Professional tier carries a minimum term of three months. Under the general terms and conditions, the licence then renews automatically for twelve months unless cancelled in writing two months before expiry, and the fee is invoiced annually in advance.
What security certifications does Survalyzer hold?
The company states that it is ISO 27001 certified, attributing the certification to TÜV Süd, and that it is independently audited twice a year. No certificate number is published, and the site gives the certification year as 2020 in some places and 2021 in others.
Conclusion

Should you pick Survalyzer?

Survalyzer is a deliberate niche product rather than a general-purpose form builder, and it should be judged on that basis. Its strongest argument is the combination of a genuinely complete research chain with data sovereignty a buyer can point at: the customer chooses between a Zurich and an Amsterdam data centre, and the publisher has traded continuously since its entry in the Swiss commercial register in 2005, which is verifiable rather than merely asserted. For a bank, an insurer, a public body or a university that must keep respondent data inside a named jurisdiction and needs MaxDiff or Kano rather than a satisfaction star rating, that combination is genuinely hard to assemble from cheaper parts.

The constraints are equally clear. At 420 EUR per month the entry point rules out small teams, and that tier contains none of the AI features the product leads with, which begin at 920 EUR. The commitment is a real one, with a minimum term, automatic annual renewal and invoicing in advance. Anyone evaluating the tool should price the Expert tier, not the headline figure, if AI analysis is the reason they are looking.

One area deserves scrutiny before signing. The compliance story is strong in its claims and thin in its published evidence: the privacy policy on the site covers the marketing website rather than the survey platform, no data processing agreement or subprocessor list is published, the ISO 27001 claim carries no certificate number, and no EU Article 27 representative is named for a Swiss publisher selling into the Union. None of that means the controls are absent; it means a buyer should ask for the documents directly rather than infer them from the website.
