VYDA is a German AI platform that extracts, classifies and quality-checks documents for insurers and real estate owners, turning invoices, claims files, utility bills and maintenance reports into structured cost, ESG and asset data.
What is VYDA?
VYDA is the new name of Eucon Digital, a Münster-based data and process specialist with around 400 employees and a claimed 25 years in its markets. It sells to two industries and builds a distinct product line for each.
On the insurance side, VYDA covers the claims chain: digital loss notification across devices, a Smart Inbox that classifies documents and routes them, automatic photo-based estimation of claim value from damage images, an AI claims check that decides between straight-through processing and expert review, and document checking by in-house experts against current price data. The company says its AI models are proprietary and designed in-house, and describes its approach as human-centred rather than fully automated.
On the real estate side, four products share one engine. SmartInvoice runs the invoice workflow end to end: classification of invoices, e-invoices, credit notes and reminders, duplicate detection, a completeness check against section 14 of the German VAT Act with assisted vendor rejection, external approvals by email link without an account, AI posting suggestions trained on the customer's own history, approval routing configurable without developers, and postings written to an SFTP server the ERP collects daily. costREview applies OCR and a machine learning classifier to individual invoice lines, sorting them into more than 60 DIN cost groups and producing property, portfolio and vendor benchmarks. SmartSustain pulls consumption, energy sources, costs and CO2 emissions out of utility bills and energy certificates. techREview uses a Large Language Model on maintenance and inspection reports, handwritten ones included, to build a technical asset register and deficiency lists with remediation deadlines.
A human quality gate sits behind all of it: VYDA staff review model output to reach what the company calls near-100% quality. It is optional and recommended.
The claimed numbers are substantial: over 31 billion euros in invoice volume processed, several hundred thousand transactions a year, more than 170 companies using the products, 50+ insurers, and over 1.4 million self-learning account assignments. Named customers include Union Investment, Allianz, Westfälische Provinzial, Ampega, STRABAG and VGH.

GDPR overview
Implementation is concrete rather than declarative. VYDA GmbH is established in Münster, so the GDPR applies directly and no Article 27 representative is required. The Compliance page states plainly that the company adheres to GDPR provisions, and a data protection officer is reachable at datenschutz@vyda.de. More unusually, an Article 28 processing agreement is published in full and must be accepted by checkbox to start the SmartSustain trial: it confines processing to the European Union or the EEA, makes any third-country transfer conditional on the customer's prior consent under Articles 44 et seq., and names the subprocessor. Data subject rights are set out in detail, including the right to complain to a supervisory authority. The information security management system is ISO/IEC 27001 certified, recertified in 2025. One gap: the website privacy policy carries no effective date.
Who owns the data?
Under the data processing agreement VYDA publishes for its SmartSustain trial, the customer remains the controller within the meaning of Article 4(7) GDPR and keeps authority over the data. VYDA acts strictly as a processor and may process only on the customer's instructions. Media handed over, and every copy made from them, remain the customer's property, and the customer may demand rectification, erasure, blocking or return at any time, during the contract and after it ends. One carve-out matters: anonymised customer data, and the know-how derived from it, sit outside the agreement. The public privacy policy covers website visitors only, not documents processed inside the products.
Reuse rights
Customers keep their data and can reuse it without asking permission. SmartInvoice writes approved postings to an SFTP server that the customer's ERP collects daily, SmartSustain output can be exported or piped into an ESG reporting tool through an interface, and techREview data can be transferred into customer systems down to the individual deficiency. No approval step is documented anywhere. In the other direction, VYDA uses customer material for its own models: SmartInvoice analyses historical invoices and account assignments to train the AI behind its posting suggestions, and the processing agreement removes anonymised customer data, described as new know-how, from its scope. No way to opt out of that training is documented on the site.

Hosting summary
The processing agreement VYDA publishes is explicit on jurisdiction: the contractually agreed processing takes place exclusively in a Member State of the European Union or another state party to the EEA Agreement. Moving processing to a third country requires the customer's prior consent and is permitted only where Articles 44 et seq. GDPR are satisfied. If a subprocessor performs its part outside the EU or the EEA, VYDA must secure the lawfulness of that transfer itself. One subprocessor is named in the annex: Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, in Dublin, for Azure cloud services, and the solution is described as cloud-based software. What is never stated is the specific hosting country: the region is guaranteed, the data centre is not identified. For the website itself, the privacy policy notes that Matomo runs on VYDA's own server inside the EU and that Usercentrics processes within the European Union; the web server resolves to a German IP address operated by Mittwald CM Service. German law governs the agreement.

- Your invoice history feeds the model: SmartInvoice trains its posting suggestions on your past invoices and assignments, and no opt-out is documented
- The processing agreement places anonymised customer data, and the know-how derived from it, outside its scope, which is worth understanding before signing
- The published agreement is the SmartSustain trial one, so other products' contractual annexes may name different subprocessors and different guarantees
- Quality assurance, presented as what makes near-100% accuracy achievable, is an optional paid gate; switch it off and the accuracy claim no longer holds
- Automation invites complacency: thresholds that release invoices without human eyes move the risk of a wrong or duplicate payment onto the configuration
- Handing document interpretation to a model can erode in-house knowledge of cost structures and inspection duties, which is exactly the expertise needed to challenge a wrong output
- No published price means no benchmark: the cost of the contract is whatever the negotiation produces

The weight sits at the start. Should you pick VYDA?
VYDA is a niche tool in the best sense. It is not a general-purpose document AI but a set of products shaped around German-speaking practice: DIN cost structures, section 14 UStG invoice checks, operator obligations on technical building systems. For a real estate owner drowning in supplier invoices, or an insurer trying to industrialise claims handling without giving up expert judgement, that specificity is the value. A generic extraction tool would not know what a DIN cost group is.
The compliance posture is unusual for a B2B vendor. The Article 28 processing agreement is published in full rather than sent on request, processing is contractually confined to the EU and EEA, the cloud subprocessor is named, and the information security management system carries a current ISO/IEC 27001 certificate you can download. Most vendors in this space publish considerably less.
The counterweight is commercial opacity. Nothing about price is public, there is no API and no documentation for one, there is no mobile app, and the only way to try anything without a sales conversation is a four-week SmartSustain trial whose form exists only in German. Read the training arrangement carefully too: SmartInvoice learns from your historical invoices and assignments, and no opt-out is documented.
One detail worth knowing before evaluating: the rebrand from Eucon Digital is recent and unfinished. Contact forms still point to eucon.com's privacy policy and the published processing agreement still names Eucon GmbH as the contracting party. That is cosmetic rather than substantive, but the document you sign may not carry the name on the website.
Worth a conversation if you carry property or claims volume in the German-speaking market. Not worth your time if you wanted to self-serve.
