Writitude
Writitude is a Latvian SaaS platform that turns brand tone-of-voice and style guidelines into enforceable rules. It builds custom guides and glossaries, then checks any text, human or AI-generated, for compliance before publication.
What is Writitude?
Writitude is a web platform that turns a brand's writing rules into something a machine can enforce. It is published by SIA "Writitude", a Latvian company registered on 19 October 2023 under the name SIA "Textok" and renamed in April 2025, and it presents itself as an AI-powered toolkit for brand voice management, writing, and compliance.
The central object is the guide. Seven predefined tones of voice ship with the product, each illustrated by sample copy, and custom guides can be built three ways: Guide Builder derives one automatically from texts you already consider on-brand, a Wizard assembles one from a handful of questions about brand personality, and Matcher takes a reference text and tells you which predefined tone it sits closest to. Whichever route you take, the result is a set of rules drawn from a library of more than a hundred parameters covering emotionality, rhythm, formality, assertiveness, inclusivity, capitalisation, emoji use, the American or British variety of English, discriminatory language, readability and document structure.
Glossaries sit alongside the rules. They forbid words, require others, and check that names, product terms and brand spellings are always written the same way, with helpers for contractions, lemmas and wildcards, plus a library of ready-made glossaries.
Writing happens in a Workspace. You pick a guide, paste or draft a text and press Check compliance; the platform underlines every passage that breaks a rule and explains what should change. Each suggestion can be handled by hand, with a one-click Fix, or through an AI editing panel carrying predefined and custom prompts. Paid plans also generate and rewrite copy in the chosen tone, and a separate Analyzer profiles a text by complex words, rare words, superlatives, informal or discriminatory language and dominant emotions.
Guides can be shared with other paying accounts, which is the point of the product for agencies and for teams whose writers change often. Premium adds a choice of the underlying language model; Enterprise adds briefs, assignments, commenting, approvals and storage. Beyond the browser there is a Google Docs add-on, and the terms describe the software as a Chrome extension or MS Word add-in. Writitude positions itself as tool-agnostic, checking human and machine-written copy alike rather than replacing the writer's own tool.
What it does
- Build a brand tone-of-voice guide from sample texts, a guided wizard or a matched reference text
- Check any text against a chosen guide and receive explained, fixable corrections
- Enforce vocabulary with custom glossaries: forbidden words, required words, exact spellings
- Generate or rewrite copy directly in the selected tone of voice
- Share guides with in-house writers, freelancers and agencies
- Profile a text for complexity, rare words, superlatives, discriminatory language and emotions
- Run editorial workflow with briefs, assignments, comments and approvals on the Enterprise plan
When to use Writitude / When not to
A quick filter to help you decide if Writitude is the right fit.
When to use Writitude
- Agencies writing for several clients, who need one tone-of-voice guide per account
- Small in-house marketing teams with no dedicated editorial reviewer
- Brands addressing several audiences or channels: customer emails, social posts, long-form articles
- Content managers who brief freelancers and want the brand voice to survive writer turnover
- Teams mixing human copy with output from ChatGPT, Claude or Jasper and needing a single compliance layer
When not to use Writitude
- Developers who need an API: Writitude publishes none and has no API documentation
- Anyone working outside English: no supported-language list is published and the rule set is built for English
- Mobile-first writers: there is no iOS or Android application
- Enterprise buyers with a procurement checklist: no DPA, no subprocessor list, no disclosed hosting location
- Organisations that need assured continuity: the operating company was struck off the Latvian register on 19 June 2026 and the sign-in and sign-up URLs return 404
How to use Writitude
A typical end-to-end flow, from setup to results.
- Create an account from the Sign up button on the site; the application runs at app.writitude.com
- Choose a starting point: one of the seven predefined tones of voice, or a custom guide
- Build the custom guide with Guide Builder from sample texts, with the Wizard from a few questions, or with Matcher from a reference text
- Refine the guide rule by rule, adding or removing parameters from the hundred-plus available
- Create glossaries in My library: click the plus sign, give the glossary a telling name, add words one by one
- Attach the glossaries to the guide so forbidden, required and exact-spelling checks apply
- In the Workspace, select the guide in the bottom left corner and paste the text to be checked
- Press Check compliance and work through the suggestions, manually, with the Fix button or with the AI editing panel
- Share the finished guide from the Guides section of the Library using the recipient's email; the recipient needs a paid account
- Use Analyzer from the Tools section to profile a text, and the Google Docs add-on to stay inside your editor

Data, GDPR & hosting
A consolidated view of how Writitude handles your data.
GDPR overview
GDPR compliance is claimed explicitly. The privacy policy names SIA "Writitude" (Reg. Nr. 40203516299, Lībiešu iela 11, LV-2167, Mārupe) as controller and cites Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 by name. It lists the categories processed, namely user, communications, technical and cookie data, and the legal bases invoked: legitimate interest, consent, contract and legal obligation. Data subject rights are set out in full: information, objection to marketing, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and complaint to a supervisory authority, with requests sent to hello@writitude.com or by post to Gustava Zemgala gatve 71, Rīga, LV-1039. As the controller is established in Latvia, no Article 27 representative is required. What is absent matters too: no DPA, no subprocessor list, no named DPO and no effective date on the policy.
Who owns the data?
The terms license the software rather than sell it: Writitude and its licensors keep all title and intellectual property rights in the product. Anything you upload or type, described as User Content together with the User Derived Content built from it, remains your responsibility, and you warrant that you own it or hold the necessary rights. No clause claims ownership of that content for Writitude. Feedback is the exception: any question, comment or suggestion you send about the service is irrevocably assigned to Writitude, with moral rights waived. The privacy policy adds that user data received from third parties is never shared, transferred or disclosed.
Reuse rights
Nothing in the terms restricts what you do with the texts you write, check or generate in the platform. User Content stays yours, no licence back to Writitude is claimed over it, and drafts or rewrites can therefore be reused, published or resold without asking permission, provided you held the rights to the source material in the first place. The tone-of-voice guides and glossaries you build are equally yours, and can be shared with other users within the limits of your plan. Two things are carved out: the software itself, which is licensed and not sold, and any feedback about the product, whose rights pass to Writitude.
Data retention & training
Hosting summary
No hosting jurisdiction is disclosed. The terms state only that Writitude will choose one or more third-party hosting providers at its discretion and as needed, and that service availability depends on those providers' terms and uptime; no country, region or provider is named, and no certification such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is claimed anywhere on the site. What can be observed from outside is limited to public infrastructure: the marketing site is served behind Cloudflare, the help centre runs on GitBook, and product analytics are sent to a European PostHog endpoint. The only firm anchor is legal rather than technical. The controller, SIA "Writitude", is established in Latvia, so processing falls under the GDPR and, under the terms, Latvian law governs the agreement. Buyers who need a documented data location, a processing agreement or a subprocessor list will find none of them published.
Things to keep in mind
Risks and trade-offs to weigh before adopting Writitude.
- The operating company was struck off the Latvian commercial register on 19 June 2026; the site is still up, but the sign-in and sign-up URLs it points to return 404
- Subscription fees are non-refundable and non-cancellable, which makes an annual commitment risky given that status
- Writitude reserves the right to end a free trial at any time, with no warranty or support during it
- Rights in any feedback you send about the product are irrevocably assigned to Writitude, moral rights waived
- Hosting providers are chosen at the vendor's discretion with no country disclosed, so data location cannot be verified
- Leaning on automated tone enforcement can flatten a writer's own judgement: the rules describe a house style, not what a particular reader needs
- The help centre is around eight months old, contradicts the pricing page on Premium quotas and still links to the former brand, textok.com
Setup & Integrations
Technical difficulty
Low. There is nothing to deploy: you create an account in the browser and, optionally, add the Google Docs add-on, the Chrome extension or the Word add-in. The site claims a five-minute setup with no IT involvement, and two of the three ways to build a guide are automatic, from sample texts or from a reference text. The real effort is editorial rather than technical: choosing among more than a hundred rules, building glossaries, then testing and tuning the guide over several passes. No development skills and no API keys are required.

Should you pick Writitude?
Writitude solves a narrow problem thoroughly. Where most writing assistants offer generic advice, it lets a brand encode more than a hundred specific rules, from formality and rhythm to inclusivity, capitalisation and emoji use, attach glossaries that police exact spellings, and then apply the whole thing to any text, whether a copywriter or a language model produced it. For an agency juggling client voices, or a small marketing team that keeps re-explaining the same corrections, that combination is genuinely useful, and the free Basic plan makes it cheap to test.
The gaps are equally clear. There is no API, no mobile application and no published list of supported languages, and neither the terms nor the privacy policy says whether customer texts are used to train models or how to opt out. Procurement teams will find no data processing agreement, no subprocessor list and no disclosed hosting location; the terms simply reserve the right to choose providers at Writitude's discretion.
The most important reservation is not about features. SIA "Writitude", the Latvian company named in the privacy policy, was struck off the national commercial register on 19 June 2026. The marketing site and the help centre are still online, but the sign-in and sign-up URLs the site itself points to return 404, and nothing has been published on the blog since January 2026. Subscription fees are described as non-refundable and non-cancellable.
Anyone drawn to the rule engine should therefore confirm that accounts can still be opened and supported before committing to an annual plan. Read as a product, Writitude is a well-built and well-documented piece of brand-voice tooling. Read as a supplier, its status is, at the date of this review, unresolved.
